I honestly have no answers. I'm inclined to noninterventionism but fear it is too late. I believe in empathy as well, but not in the midst of a fight. I think the real problem is there is no answer, not because actions are not possible that bring this to an end, but because there is an epidemic of distrust in governments around the world which absolutely empowers radicalism.

Sorry Mr. Banzai, but I have to disagree with your point here. I didn't downvote you BTW. My life experience in has led me to conclude that muslims can't, and shouldn't be trusted with anything (especially with livestock or young boys). Lone muslims, or even in small groups, are very adept at playing victims, and manipulating the more empathetic individuals in any given culture where muslims are a minority. Given that almost all western cultures place a high value on individual rights, and treating your fellow man as you'd like to be treated, we've walked blindly down the garden path with regards to accomodating muslims. Granted, the government meddling in the ME really is inexcuseable. But, that is only very recent history. There has been over a thousand years of give and take between the west and islam. The west has largely reformed and advanced, while islam (fundamentalist islam) wants to stay firmly ensconced in the 12th century.
Muslims are extremely prone to tribalism, and tend to kill each other off with reckless abandon when there are no outside threats fo them to unite against. I fail to see the point in the US interfering with anything to do in the Middle East/SW Asia/Central Asia, other than trade. I've had good friends die in Iraq, Somalia and Afghanistan for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Muslims place a very low value on life (even their own), and as a result, I place a very low value on thier life as well. Any country or people led by islam will never amount to anything.
