The Law, as given to Moses by The God of Abraham, The God Israel, The God of Christianity, and The God of Islam
Recently, here on Zero Hedge, I posted an article titled, "Law suit? Porn addict? Divorcing? Seeking investment ideas? Worried about the world?" In the article, I state:
Below is an English translation of one of Jesus' very famous outdoor lectures, which was widely shared by his disciples that were present, and eventually written down circa 70-90.
If you take 5-10 minutes to read this sermon, then you will know what being a Christian is actually supposed to mean.
On many other occasions, on Zero Hedge, I have also recommend this very good book.
Abraham: A Journey to the Heart of Three Faiths, P.S. Edition

In today's world where all sides try to dehumanize the enemy, we should understand that Jews, Christians, and Muslims pray to the same God.
Today, I was reading this article on RT, ‘100yrs to repair Gaza’: Oxfam says blockade remains, aid almost non-existent.

Oxfam’s statement outlines how “the situation in Gaza is becoming increasingly desperate” and calling for the lifting of the eight-year blockade, as well as a continuation of peace talks.
“Only an end to the blockade of Gaza will ensure that people can rebuild their lives,” Regional Director Catherine Essoyan said. With it in place, the flow of construction materials in and agricultural produce out is having a crippling effect on the lives of Palestinians.
According to the NGO, new figures reveal a drop last month in construction materials, which are vital to the efforts. "Less than 0.25 percent of the truckloads of essential construction materials needed have entered Gaza in the past three months," the statement also said.
In pure figures, over 800,000 truckloads of such materials are still required to repair the infrastructure damaged in last summer’s operation alone – Israel’s bloodiest in years – which claimed 2,200 Palestinian lives, most of them civilians.
About 100,000 of these people still live in shelters and other makeshift or temporary accommodation because of this lack of materials.
“Tens of thousands more are living in badly damaged homes,” Oxfam ads.
“Families have been living in homes without roofs, walls or windows for the past six months. Many have just six hours of electricity a day and are without running water. Every day that people are unable to build is putting more lives at risk. It is utterly deplorable that the international community is once again failing the people of Gaza when they need it most,” Essoyan continues.
“Exports of agricultural produce from Gaza have fallen in the last year to just 2.7 percent of the level before the blockade was imposed. Fishermen are still restricted to an enforced fishing limit of 6 nautical miles – far short of where most fish are – farmers are restricted from accessing much of the most fertile farmland.”
In formulating my response to this RT article, and attempting to have empathy for both sides of the Palestinian Holocaust, I could not help but to first think back to my earlier reading, this morning, of Jesus' teachings from His Sermon on the Mount, more specifically, regarding Moses' teaching of the law:
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Next, my mind was led to here, to the law, as given to us by Moses from The God of Abraham, The God Israel, The God of Christianity, and The God of Islam. Specifically, this law:
"You shall not murder."
If you take five minutes to read the following, then you will have a pretty good idea of how Jews and Christians are supposed to act.
I have included both The Ten Commandments, Exodus 20, and various other laws, Leviticus 19, for our reading, interpretation, contemplation, discussion, daily use, and I am most certain...our debate.

The Ten Commandments
20 And God spoke all these words:
2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
Various Other Laws
Leviticus 19 New International Version (NIV)
1The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.
3 “‘Each of you must respect your mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.
4 “‘Do not turn to idols or make metal gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God.
5 “‘When you sacrifice a fellowship offering to the Lord, sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf. 6 It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice it or on the next day; anything left over until the third day must be burned up. 7 If any of it is eaten on the third day, it is impure and will not be accepted. 8 Whoever eats it will be held responsible because they have desecrated what is holy to the Lord; they must be cut off from their people.
9 “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.
11 “‘Do not steal.
“‘Do not lie.
“‘Do not deceive one another.
12 “‘Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.
13 “‘Do not defraud or rob your neighbor.
“‘Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight.
14 “‘Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your God. I am the Lord.
15 “‘Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.
16 “‘Do not go about spreading slander among your people.
“‘Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the Lord.
17 “‘Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt.
18 “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
19 “‘Keep my decrees.
“‘Do not mate different kinds of animals.
“‘Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
“‘Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.
20 “‘If a man sleeps with a female slave who is promised to another man but who has not been ransomed or given her freedom, there must be due punishment.[a] Yet they are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed. 21 The man, however, must bring a ram to the entrance to the tent of meeting for a guilt offering to the Lord. 22 With the ram of the guilt offering the priest is to make atonement for him before the Lord for the sin he has committed, and his sin will be forgiven.
23 “‘When you enter the land and plant any kind of fruit tree, regard its fruit as forbidden.[b] For three years you are to consider it forbidden[c]; it must not be eaten. 24 In the fourth year all its fruit will be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord. 25 But in the fifth year you may eat its fruit. In this way your harvest will be increased. I am the Lord your God.
26 “‘Do not eat any meat with the blood still in it.
“‘Do not practice divination or seek omens. [Except for Economists?]
27 “‘Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.
28 “‘Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord.
29 “‘Do not degrade your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will turn to prostitution and be filled with wickedness.
30 “‘Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord.
31 “‘Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God. [Except for Economists?]
32 “‘Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the Lord.
33 “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. 34 The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
35 “‘Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity. 36 Use honest scales and honest weights, an honest ephah[d] and an honest hin.[e] I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt. [Except for Economists?]
37 “‘Keep all my decrees and all my laws and follow them. I am the Lord.’”
Finally, if you haven't had enough, enjoy reading another recent RT article: Over half of Republicans want to ignore Bill of Rights, make Christianity national religion.
Peace be with you.

I covet my neighbor's ox :(
"Let him without sticks, cast the first stone"...or a derivitive of, seems to be where we all are at.....
do these sound like the same God:

“Make war on the infidels living in your neighborhood.” Koran 9:123
“When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them.” Koran 9:5
“Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable.” Koran 3:85
“The Jews and the Christians are perverts; fight them.”... Koran 9:30
“Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticize Islam” Koran 5:33
“Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies.” Koran 22:19
“The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them.” Koran 8:65
“Muslims must not take the infidels as friends.” Koran 3:28
“Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an.” Koran 8:12
“Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels.” Koran 8:60

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved
1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Psalm 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
A bit of our Judeo/Christian Law and Scripture:
Exodus 21:7: "And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.
Leviticus 20:10 "And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death."
Leviticus 27:6 A child aged 1 month to five years of age was worth 5 shekels if a boy and 3 shekels if a girl.
Deuteronomy 21:10-13 describes how a soldier can force a woman captive to marry him without regard for her wishes.
Deuteronomy 22:13-21 requires that a woman be a virgin when she is married. If she has had sexual relations while single in her father's house, then she would be stoned to death.
Deuteronomy 22:28-29 requires that a virgin woman who has been raped must marry her attacker, no matter what her feelings are towards the rapist.
Deuteronomy 25:11: If two men are fighting, and the wife of one of them grabs the other man's testicles, her hand is to be chopped off.
You have taken all of those verses right out of their context and applications and just proves your ignorance.
Example you said "Deuteronomy 21:10-13 describes how a soldier can force a woman captive to marry him without regard for her wishes."
and yet verse 14 says the exact opposite
14 If you are not pleased with her, let her go wherever she wishes. You must not sell her or treat her as a slave, since you have dishonored her.
?que pasa, HedgelessHombre?
i was reviewing your post and my attention lingered on the last law listed. janus remembers his first occasion reading this back in the days of intense Bible study, pausing, and then concluding that this law had something to do with the feminine tendency to touch a cock with the left hand. since you didn't stipulate which hand the lass lost if she grasped at the other family's jewels, i'm assuming it was that which committed the offense. and since most are right handed, one could assume that cock grasping has been over the eons conditioned as a left-handed enterprise so that the perpetrators may in such an event preserve their dominant hand.
anyway, upon this most recent review of Moses' law, i'm struck with another impression still. was cock grasping by wives in instances of inter-family dispute so common that it required the specific attention of Moses? i'm suspicious that Moses at one point suffered this most injurious of offense personally; and noting the conspicuous absence of any ex post facto clause in the laws of Moses, one could be forgiven in concluding that Moses drafted this law with the specific intent of revenge for the otherwise forgotten sleight. it's either that or the hebrews of goshen were incorrigible cock graspers. just because the Pentateuch doesn't include the story of Moses delicious retribution doesn't mean it didn't happen.
i can see Moses now, sauntering up to the tent of his former foe whose wife once twisted his testicles, sharpening his sword of justice as his brother aaron read aloud the newest of God's decrees. i think it's safe to say that this household of testicle-twisters didn't think too kindly of particular edict. but the law is the law.
it is also interesting to note that, as recorded by Moses himself, God told Moses, "behold, i make you a god unto them." interesting.
Christ also said, "behold, ye are gods." but He probably didn't mean it; as it would surely do away with the need for institutional churches, as if this statement alone didn't preclude their existence to begin with.
anyway, as to the law, saul of tarsus tell us that if we are guilty of any portion of it, we are guilty of the whole. he goes on to describe the impossibility of perfection in it when he chastises the judiazers in either galtians or ephesians (i can't remember which off-hand). he asks the judiazers rhetorically, "do you know what's in the law?" as if to say, 'do you fools have any idea the tyranny of liturgy you're inclined to inflict upon your very souls; you will never be sufficient before its awful demands.'
the law of grace is that which the Christian, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, via the person of Christ, made propitiation for all sin (in all temporal states), mediates through the believer; and to that which the believer binds or permits, it is also bound or permitted in heaven, and that which is at his discretion sin is for him sin and that which is for him good is for him good as such. albeit, the character of our good & evil will be informed by an understanding of the person of Christ, as articulated in the Gospels. and, what is more, one must live by the code one for himself approves -- Christ hates hypocrites more than sin itself; and the meaning of "sin" in the hebrew tongue is 'missing the mark' (as an arrow that falls off center).
this is to me best illustrated when Christ forgives the harlot. the law demands that the harlot be stoned to death for her sin; Christ, before his death and the substitution of covenants (which is an important detail; especially when understanding the relationship of His shed blood and the force of the law), demands that the law be broken in order that all who were to execute its demands be spared the shame and greater sin of hypocrisy. was Christ forgiving the harlot and the men gathered with stone at the ready? why did he only admonish the harlot to go and sin no more and not advise the men in the same fashion? would it have been an act of righteousness if any had been innocent of such sin and did therefore commence pelting the harlot to death? what, truly, was Christ teaching the crowd gathered; and on how many levels was he then speaking; and what does it say of our times today?
Christ also said, "if your right hand causes you to sin, best cut it off than your whole body be consumed in the fires of hell." i think he's speaking figuratively; as He knows that almost none would deem themselves worthy of self-severing. even so, the question remains, in reference to the law of Moses and the propitiation of Christ, is cock-grasping by wives of her husband's rivals reckoned a sin to the wife if she does not of her own accord acknowledge it as such? and if so, does it require the severing of the guilty hand? and is that auto-severing not best left to her own discretion?

Islam and Judeo/Christianity DO NOT serve the same God. Sure Islam claims their roots to the same place but they are by no means the same thing. This is a fundamental misunderstanding by you and most other folks unfortunately. Let me highlight some major differences for you.
The God of the Bible...
- Exists in 3 incarnations Father, Son, Holy Spirit. No such distinction in islam just the supreme being
- Only way to heaven is unconditional faith in Jesus, God's only Son. you're either forgiven or not. Islam there is no son you are saved by good works and Jesus was just a prophet.
- The virgin born, perfect life of Jesus is antithetical to the imperfect, sinning, political, blood shedding warlord, Muhammad.
Some good stuff on the distinctions at the below:

Jews, Christians, and Muslims all pray to the God of Abraham.
Muslims just pray more often.
Do you have a different interpretation of Genesis and of Matthew 6:9-13?
I understand that this truth creates a large amount of cognitive dissonance, mostly due to the perpetual war mongering by Western media.
Just because the Quran makes a statement that Allah is the same god as the God revealed in the Bible does not make it so. If you would take the time to actually understand who/what Muslims are praying to by reading their Quran and hadiths you would know that the two dieties are different. You have been told this quite a few times before. But you seem to rely on Bruce Feiler's book instead of going to the actual sources.
Muslims may pray more often, but to who/what? It is not the number of times that you pray that is most important but the object of your prayer. They are not praying to God who revealed himself in the Bible.
Links below are helpful but I suggest actully reading the Bible and Quran/hadiths.

I'm all for getting out of wars in the Middle East, but Islam is a permanent enemy. From it's very creation it has used violence to expand and its enemies were forced to use violence to remove Islam. The Crusades were a counterattack against Islamic expansion and the Inquisition was an effort by the King of Spain to remove the colonial Muslim forces that had ruled Spain for hundreds of years. Vlad the Impaler was fighting Muslim invaders. The only reason Islam wasn't a threat for about a century or so was because the West rapidly advanced in technology. The technological advantage is gone. Again, I'm all for leaving the Middle East, but I'm under no illusions. Instead of American boys dying in the sand, it will be Indian boys and African boys, maybe Chinese and Russian boys too. And if they can't stop Islam, there will be Americans back in there fighting Islam yet again.
The problems inherent in the Middle East and largely anywhere Islam is represented comes from their desires to wipeout the other faiths.
I think you are referring to another tribe.
Please, for a moment, turn off CNN, read this article, and watch the video.
Then, afterwards, ask yourself, "Who is truthfully trying to wipe out whom?"
I bet you the authors at 0h post articles just to read the comments.
Maybe there is a reason the War Department building is shaped like a pentagram?
