As The BBC notes, the Russian opposition politician and former deputy PM was shot to death on a Moscow street. Life News is reporting he was shot in the chest four times on a street very close to Red Square.

Late on the Friday night in downtown Moscow on Vasilevsky Spusk was killed prominent politician Boris Nemtsov.
According to preliminary data, the killer shot four times at the 55-year-old politician and fled the scene. The opposition leader died on the scene of the shooting.
The death of the politician was confirmed by his colleague from the "Republican Party of Russia - People's Freedom Party" Ilya Yashin.
"Nemtsov was shot. He's dead - Yashin wrote on his page on "Facebook".

Regardless this is the centre of the Capital, there were no security cameras installed on the top of the bridge to witness the murder scene. Notably, right in the middle of the night there appeared to be lots of citizens bringing flowers to there. It's very difficult to find live flowers in deep Moscow February night, and they're very expensive in general.

One of my best friends created a mission to Russia and the Ukraine to provide dental care for orphans. The pics and stories when he first started going over there in the mid nineties were heart wrenching. Capitalism was NOT their problem.

Actually I'm talking about Russia today and from the last ten years or so, the Putin period.
I first went there in 2007 and debt-funded import-consumerism (DFIC) was well established, I last went after the sanctions had just been started in August 2014 and I noticed things were already changing, with an obvious move from West to East, particularly car imports.
Unfortunately, apart from noticeable import substitutions that must have been happening well before the Kiev putsch, Russia seemed to be still in the thick of the DFIC model, but I noticed the rot had already set it - loads of empty and unsold apartments at high prices, less consumer footfall, fewer small businesses, higher prices and a general feeling of recession already.
Next time I go, I'll be interested to see what effects the sanctions are having and what changes from the DFIC model are being made, if any. As a tourist the exchange rate will be good, but I suspect inflation will take most of that benefit away.
