I recall the Ford administration and the inflation and I remember being told that it was a result of somebody somewhere raising prices and then others down the line having to do so as well. I was a smart enough kid but not once did I hear anything about how Nixon's closing of the gold window had an effect on money printing, etc. I also recall Nixon's wage and price controls when he closed the gold window. Mom was due for a raise in a few months and she wasn't happy.

Did you know that Roger Penrose, a Cambridge University and Cal Tech Physicist, and Stephen Hawking's mentor, his contemporary, has actually enumerated the chance existence of the Physical Universe?
Those odds are defined as 10-125.
Did you know that an Engineering Absurdity has also been defined as 10-50? An absurdity is an event that is not even considered as even remotely possible.
Putting those two facts together means that a Chance Manifestation of the Physical Universe is 75 Magnitudes of Order less than that of an Absurdity.
That means that any RATIONAL Engineer would, by a factor of 1075, consider that the Universe, the one that we live in, as remotely possible.
So we are here, against all odds, we are here.
If a Chance Manifestation of the Universe is not remotely possible, by that enumerated amount, then the only other alternative was that it was a designed manifestation.
Since the Universe is manifested by design then one must, RATIONALLY, from the EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE, infer a Designer.

Since I have a young son, I'll use a simple example.
If Action figures cost $6, I will probably buy him 2 for a gross sale of $12. If the same action figures go up to $9, I will only buy him one. Or I will tell him that the figures he wanted are too expensive and he will have to pick something else. If he throws a fit, he won't get anything and we'll leave the store without purchasing anything.
SO by trying to increase margins and inflating the cost of a product the store will lose out on $3 at least, or more likely a total loss of a sale.
That is why the people that run large publicly traded corporations are the dumbest fucks to walk the face of the planet. They will always choose to increase prices to combat falling sales. They think by lowering prices they will lose more money. My little scenario above proves lower prices actually make you more money.
Deflation does not cause a decrease in economic output. It only hurts those who profit off inflation, namely the banks.

Of course there needs to be a profit. People do not conduct commerece for the hell of it.
If they cannot compete and garner a profit from conducting their own business the capitalist will close his doors and invest funds into businesses that are producing profits as it is unwise to allow capital to sit idle.
Now you can decrease your marginal profits to zero. Certainly you may be selling a lot of product and your volume will be up, your Gross receipts may increase, but your profit will still be zero.
However in a deflationary environment, WHICH WE ARE NOW EXPERIENCING, prices will decline for finished goods as gouging is just not competitive. Thus you currently see a lot of sales on non essential goods. It has been INFLATIONARY for essential goods...Food, Rent, and Power (until very recently. )
Your example is for a hypothetical non essential item....with a Price Inflation for the hell of it. Give me some real world examples. Most non essentials are in Price Deflation and that is EMPIRICALLY DEMONSTRABLE.
Now you can generalize off of one particular hypothetical example if you choose. But that is demonstrative of a lack of analysis.

If you could offer 2-3% honest inflation to a Keynes style economy the government would snap your hand off because it supports the sovereign debt.
Without the inflation a debt laden economy is dead in the water and sinks under the ever growibng debt just like Japan.
