BLOOMBERG NEWS (April 2014)--- On April 14, Newsmax.com reported that the USPS was seeking to buy a large amount of ammunition on the heels of similar purchases by the Social Security Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

This alarmed some people whom Newsmax described as “second amendment advocates.”

One was Philip Van Cleave, president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. “The problem is, all these agencies have their own SWAT teams, their own police departments, which is crazy,” he told the website. “Do we really need this? That was something our Founding Fathers did not like and we should all be concerned about.”

that was the scene in the movie after all, the bandits wanted to buy their guns. mexico still has strict gun control (cartels exempted) in just about every country where there is an active revolutionary group trying to overthrow the leadership there is a law against gun ownership, and a great many (sophisticated) weapons. not sure if there is a causation rule between gun control laws and violent revolution, but it does seem to go that way. obamas efforts to disarm america will only put more lethal weapons in the hands of a few.

Bill, it always intrigues me that the central planners no matter how many failures they encounter seem to think they can have their way by passing a law or issuing some executive decree.  Do they for one second think by making military ball ammo difficult to obtain, they have in any way subdued the public?  They sit in their cubicles, set up an eco-chamber, and listen to themselves talk without ever looking at history.

Consider this:  The most successful American acts of murder and mayhem in recent history in no way involved fire arms.  Two wannabes shut down the city of Boston with two pressure cookers.  Tim McVeigh took down the Murrah building with a truck load of fertilizer.  And, Julio Gonzalez murdered 87 people in the Bronx with a couple of gallons of gasoline.

Think how much less would have been the lost if a dozen of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s imagined lone wolves had attacked the Twin Towers with their AK’s and AR’s and all the ammunition they could carry?  The siege at best would have lasted a couple of days.  All of the attackers would have been killed or captured, the towers would still be standing, and many people now dead would still be alive.

The worm turns.  The guy currently sitting on the throne will be long gone when at some point in the future, the current clique of central planner’s worst nightmare will seize the throne. They will lament the day they awarded the executive absolute power and ended the rule of law.

They may be rich and powerful today, but they are a minority, and at some point they will find themselves on the wrong side of history.  The whole purpose of the Bill of Rights was to protect the minority from the dictatorship of the majority.

I wonder how many Jews in Weimar Germany voted for gun control?

I am not sure if anyone actually had a chance to vote on gun control in Weimar. But they certainly stood by and allowed themselves to be disarmed in the name of public safety and order without a peep.

This whole notion that  the separation of powers etc can be cirumvented with Executive Orders is extremely troubling. This is truly one of the hallmarks of the Obumbler regime. And the Boehnerites stand by and allow it because they know their next boy in the WH will run even harder with the same fucking ball.

What I have learned over many years is that the constitution becomes a hollowed out scrap of paper when those walking the halls power have zero repect for the principles embodied therein. When the whole pond is polluted, it is extremely difficult to reverse the abuses of power in the courts or otherwise. It used to be a tradition of sorts that true statesmen embraced. But we no longer have any true American statesmen in Washington. I really cannot think of a single one. Plenty of poseurs and shills though.

Yes the whole pond is polluted.

Yes, it is not the ammo ban that should be of concern, it is the circumvention that is odious. Obama is taking actions which put the president outside of control. The liberals should realize that this is a 2 edged sword.

The question I have is who is supplying the gubment with these request? Why don't ammo makers tell them to go fuck themselves? The public is trying to buy all they can make at the moment anyway. I know I am. Even finding powder, bullets, primers is tough now days in Texas.

these executive actions are fraud. like his immigration decree. he never issued such a thing, he instructed one of his cabinet (Kennedy?) to selectively enforce certain laws. the instruction was not a legal order, so there is no way that Obama can be held responsible, only his appointee. the appointee can be challenged by Congress, and after countless hearings maybe they could even fire the guy. obama has another one waiting.

whats at stake is the way the system works. Executive makes a statement, that under certain conditions (emergency) the president has powers A, B and C. since there is no state of the emergency (the president determines that) there is no binding legal challenge. the Congress can spend a lot of time and effort jousting these windmills, the time and effort is extreme, and the president can always do it all over again tomorrow.

I'm from the government.....no, I'm not going to help you.....just don't make me shoot you.

A little more than a year ago, the Social Security Administration put in a request for 174,000 rounds of ".357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow-point" bullets. <--Because senior citizens are dangerous...and they're shifty too

Before that, it was the Department of Agriculture requesting 320,000 rounds. More recently, the Department of Homeland Security raised eyebrows with its request for 450 million rounds — at about the same time the FBI separately sought 100 million hollow-point rounds. <--In case they need to kill every American twice.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration also requested 46,000 rounds.  <--In case of dangerous weather I suppose

I don't think I knew much about this round.

The .357 SIG pistol cartridge (designated as the 357 Sig by the SAAMI [2] and 357 SIG by the C.I.P.[1]) While it is based on a .40 S&W case necked down to accept 0.355-inch (9.0 mm) bullets.

The Virginia State Police has reported that attacking dogs have been stopped dead in their tracks by a single shot, whereas the former 147 grain 9 mm duty rounds would require multiple shots to incapacitate the animals.[9] Proponents of the hydrostatic shock theory contend that the energy available in the .357 SIG is sufficient for imparting hydrostatic shock with well-designed bullets.[10][11][12] Users have commented, "We're really impressed with the stopping power of the .357 SIG round."[3]

Flat point bullets are seldom used with other autoloader platforms because of feeding problems; however, such bullets are commonly seen in the .357 SIG chambering and are quite reliable, as are hollow-point bullets.

357 SIG has been adopted for use by agents and officers of the following national and state law enforcement organizations (LEO):

United States Secret Service[3][26]
Federal Air Marshals[3]
Bureau of Industry and Security
Delaware State Police[3][27]
Montana Highway Patrol
Texas Ranger Division[28]
Virginia State Police[3]

Too many police departments using to be listed.

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) is an agency of the United States Department of Commerce that deals with issues involving national security and high technology. A principal goal for the bureau is helping stop proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, while furthering the growth of United States exports.
