LiVe LoNG AND PRoSPeR...

.

As you all know, we live in an age of abundance when it comes to corrupt human garbage sitting in highly visible positions of public trust. I constantly lampoon as many as possible, but it is an unending task and there is a great deal of negativity that goes along with it.

That is why I feel it is imperative for me to pay tribute to a well known public figure who lived his life as a decent human being. One to point to without reservation when your children ask who are the people I should consider emulating.

Mr Spock, also known as Leonard Nimoy, was one such person. As an artist, he was serious, entertaining, successful, loved by many yet willing to poke fun at himself.

I grew up with the first seasons of Star Trek and like everyone who did the same, loved watching Mr. Spock's antics vis-a-vis Captain Kirk and the rest of the Star Trek crew/cast. What is unusual about that show is I was able to carry many simple lessons learnt into adulthood.

Try replicating that in today's morass of reality TV and primetime nonsense.

One such lesson was to endeavor to be open minded and not to resist cultural difference.

But Mr Spock's constant struggle to reach a state of oneness betwixt his human (emotional) and Vulcan (logical) selves is something that for me will prove to be timeless.

Wherever you are Mr Spock, live long and prosper...

The secret of a long, healthy career in the arts is the successful walk on the razor’s edge.--Leonard Nimoy

Thanks for this.

Fascinating (pun) character and even Leonard Nimoy couldn't resist in the end when he literally admitted

"I Am Spock" after trying to obfuscate himself by claiming "I Am Not Spock"

He lived long and prospered. He and the character he undoubtedly embodied will be remembered forever.

i have fond memories of Spock, i was playing the Star Treck super slot machine at the Indian casino, a while back, the one with the sound speakers built into the seat. a jackpot is like having an intergalactic orgasm. anyway i hit this minor pay, little over a hundred, but then came the Spock Multiplier, he could multiply my jackpot, the good old Spock. I walked out with almost 2 grand. most of these entertainment celebs are all about selling you pie in the sky, but Spock delivers in my book.

Should be more of a tribute to Rodenberry for creating the character Spock, for many of the reason's stated. Nimoy and Spock aren't the same person, by the way ... just incase you had a break from reality ... and thus Nimoy's life contributons go beyond the Spock character he played. Go back to negativity ... you're better at it.

Yes, Nimoy and Spock are not the same person and you no doubt are a consummate asshole. Take your clever down arrows and shove them up your twat.

Nimoy: Spock, do you have any idea how lucky we are to have each other?

Spock: I do not believe in “luck.” I believe every event is statistically predictable…

Nimoy: We’re both very lucky, Spock. Lucky to have lived the lives we have, and lucky to have had each other (bracing for the anticipated lecture on luck versus statistics)

Spock: (softly) Yes, I suppose we are…

One of my favorite spock quotes was something like this, some foe said something threatening to Kirk with Spock standing right there:

Spock says to the foe dude "He's not deaf, he simply doesn't believe his ears." Kirk just looks at Spock like WTF. Ok, you had to see it LOL. SIde note...Jane Wyatt...who played Spock's mother owned a very storied old house right down the road from me. I asked the old farmer neighbors nearby if the place is haunted. He said yes...she said no.

Infinite Diversity, in Infinite Combinations

(Actually, this was gene Rodenberry's idea, as to the jewelry that made the 'Spock' character somewhat unique. I believe that Nimoy may have adopted this idea, and he seemed to embody it whole-heartedly).

'Kirk' had the correct eulogy, in stating that in 'all of my travels, I have never met someone more, "human"'.

As a young man I never missed Star Trek.  Spock was my favorite and I am a trekkie from way back.  The show at the time was ground breaking.  Star Trek's subtle message to the masses taking on the social issues of our time has yet to be duplicated.

God Bless you Spock I will miss you.

I want to cry at the beauty of that natural wonder and cry at the foolishness of man in his edeavors to ruin the potentially wonderful experiences of people and other lifeforms living in this world.

Of course, the average human just wants to live and love (I hope) and it is to those other psychopaths not content with the simple beauty and ways of life I reserve my disdain and contempt for.

Thanks for this link Lumberjack.

I think that is the pinnacle of life, "who lived his life as a decent human being."  He was an actor and one most of us enjoyed being entertained by, but having people remember you as a decent human being in this day and age is a measure of success in life many will not achieve.

We see it in comment sections, stories, television, politics, government, big business and so on, a lack of decency.

If I can achieve being a decent human being in my life time I will have accomplished something.

Though the production values were laughable even in their time, Star Trek and the Spock character in particular were some of the most though-provoking writing that ever made it onto our crappy Zenith.

Perhaps you could have said our Nadir?

Governments that think they are our Lord, our King, our Royalty or our Parents... Star Trek had this one worked into the Script too. We value our children, their ideas, their skills & talent, and we value their Differentness.

But today, the government has so many rules, laws and fascist "shoulds" for us that we have to protect our families, our kids and ourselves from the Government & it's fascist Rule Makers and Rule Enforcers.

Obama says Americans should pay for expensive education, so that they can pay more for daily life, health care, and taxes.

Sure, and we should all dress alike, talk alike, think alike, learn the same stuff in school, study our whole lives, and be sober so we can pay more taxes and work harder to learn Federal Laws and Regulations. S/

Nice thoughts WB, but I do have to disagree with a bit of it.  I think there are many lessons to be learned from modern television.  For example, never, under any circumstances, set foot in New Jersey.
