If a trading firm or an independent trader is not ARMED properly with the latest hardware and the latest geeks , he/she is a fool for trying to compete in the CL futiures market. The very success of the NYMEX contract is what led the people who used to control prices to take the necessary steps - incrementally - to eliminate the power of the NYMEX floor to influence prices - fewer hands = greater control and less competition , a la The Federal Reserve System.
Genscapes report on Cushing showing slower production. Algos went for it. Problem is total supply is still rising substantially as people are leasing mothballed tankers to hold the crude ( see spike in HARPEX).
