Why shouldn't we be HAPPY?
Look at all the good things we have:
1. Impending world conflict between the chess masters (Russia and China) and the village idiots (3 guesses, but if you can't guess in one, then you are one).
2. Essentially zero interest on bank savings and related so senior citizens no longer have to worry about income insecurity /s.
3. The USA now a one party police state for all intents and purposes since the Repubs have ceased to oppose Obama/Dems other than for making little squeals of protest before happily bending over and taking it.
4. Ordinary Americans having no political party to represent them. Dems representing the super rich, the FSA, and the extreme Left. The Repubs representing the U.S.Chamber of Commerce....mega corps...who want Amnesty so they do not have to go to China for cheap labor.
5. Open borders with Govt induced flooding by illegals to join the FSA wing of the Dem Party.

CANADA is worse in that our tripartite Parliamentary system of governance is merely a mirror image of the American Republic on Five Eyes, CIA/FBI/DHS/et cetera. Sovereignty is non-existent with regard to Bill C-51 Canadian Terrorism Bill in Parliament being passed in-line with American hegemony in regards to National Security.
Our politicians pretend to craft legislation when in fact they just pass and legislate whatever laws the American Government passes en masse throughout the USA. CANADA mimics the BORG one party governance you rightly show contempt for in the USA. American politicians don't just fuck up the USA when they are constantly aiming for the entire World via policy dictates. Americans have much to complain about regarding their governance, but CANADA has much to complain about as well, and nothing ever gets said. Harper was, and is, an American led PM of CANADA that was fraudulently placed into power via a fraudulent takeover of the Federal Progressive Conservative Party of CANADA just prior to the 911 CIA led False Flag WTC 1&2 & building 7 USARMY Military Grade Thermite Controlled Demolitions.
What is even worse is that our Provincial Premier Kathleen Wynne takes direction from the Democratic Party of the USA, and Hilliary Clinton. Deep capture has manifested on Canadian politics rendering Canadians almost powerless to defend aganist it provincially, and federally. In 1959, a single earner income family could support a house in the burbs with a 2 car garage with good schools for the kids, in a good neighborhood with a bright future. Medical and retirement covered by the employer, and good wholesome inexpensive food.
Today a two earner family lives in a disposable aluminum box euphamistically called a home, they are being foreclosed on, and one kid is autistic, the other trying to figure out which gender they are, and they're all eating the GMO donkey poison.

Yup, in 1959 we had a manufacturing base because trade imbalances meant something. If we didn't build it ourselves, we had to import it, and if we had to import it, we settled the trade imbalance in gold with the exporting country.

The "misery index" has a specific meaning, but it is only vaguely tied to well-being. A better measure would be median disposable income, housing affordability, or wealth and savings. As ZH likes to point out inflation is low, but higher for necessities, while incomes are crap for the lower brackets. The tie between low unemployment and wage inflation has been broken for 10 years.
They have to make up their own "feel good" academic BS, otherwise they might observe reality and then buy a nail gun...
Slap a graph of pharmaceutical use up there and it might add up a bit more. Total rubbish.

Old China Had the World's Biggest Drug Problem
