And The Market Breaks

Tyler Durden's picture

Update: just three minutes later and the NYSE is "fixed", with BATS revoking self-help.

But the mission was achieved: the selling was halted, if only for the time being.

*   *   *

When in doubt how to send stocks soaring, or at least halt the selling, the solution is simple: break the market.

Moments ago everyone's favorite, venerable exchange, the NYSE, broke as per BATS which just delcared self-help: "BATS Exchange has declared self-help against NYSE Arca per Rule 611 of Regulation NMS. Routing to NYSE Arca has been suspended as of 10:11:59 ET."

The computers keep slamming the system and since it's all digital now, this will be the new normal. The algo's are now competing with each other and the circus is in full swing.

That small decline was just too much???

It must advance. It must!!! Everyday must be a winner all of the time now.

If the perception were changed in the slightest then the people might realize that the Emperor is stark raving naked.

We just cannot risk that at this critical juncture.

The Market is doing awesome. Why aren't you?

(You must know that they do understnd that is just rubbing salt into the wound. It IS INTENTIONAL.  They are sadistic psychopaths at that. Fuck them.)

These breaks are happening quiet frequently.  Maybe the Justice Department should look into it or are they too busy investigating Hillary's illegal email use...

Gosh, I see a pattern here.

You know... I used to be really naive and think the financial markets were an 'efficient' market and that prices paid were the 'true' price of market demand vs. supply.  At least that's what I was taught in Econ 101 back in the 80s.  Then I tried trading in this 'efficient' market and lost multiple tens of 1000s of dollars.  Now I just watch and have my money mostly in cash, afraid to do anything with it.  Mission accomplished, I guess?

There are but two times stock prices can be directly correlated to a company's true value. The first is just prior to its going public via IPO, and the second occurs after it goes belly up and the assets are broken up and sold off to the scavengers. Actually, these days since the squid and associates have taken bankruptcy manipulation to the level of an art form, shareholders usually are helpless while they watch what remains of their investment "disappeared."

They lied. It isn't a zero sum game, it's a zero net game.

I was taught the same.  I have a vivid memory of a micro prof citing the stock market as 1 of the few examples of "perfect" competition in our modern economy. His research was primarily game theory.  In hind sight, I think he was duped just like the rest of the sheeple.

However, my macro profs were most definitely in on the educational scam.  I bow my head in shame at how gullible I was sitting in their classes.

Note to the Tyler(s)... are you keeping a record of the number of times the "market" or a various "exchange" has broken? Is it now occurring with a greater frequency then it did say a year ago or five years ago?

I need more chart porn.

And so breaking becomes just another tool of manipulation, or counter- manipulation.Either way we know its not a free market.
