Caught On Tape: The Moment Mario Draghi Gets Heckled, "You're Biased..."

Tyler Durden's picture

Perhaps echoing two entire nations' frustration, one reporter loses his cool when Mario Draghi explains how everyone else in Europe gets free money except Greece and Cyprus...

Having explained that The ECB's Bond-Buying program wil lnot include Greek and Cypriot bonds, "feisty" veteran Greek journalist Aristidis Vikettos unloads on Draghi... "You're Biased..." he exclaimed, leaving Draghi speechless

As In-Cyprus reports, there was a lot more going on behind the scenes...

Mario Draghi was left speechless on live television when a feisty veteran journalist accused him of bias during really tense moments at a press conference, following the conclusion of the ECB Governing Council meeting in Nicosia.

Aristidis Vikettos, the Athens News Agency correspondent, apparently miffed that mostly foreign media were asking the questions, (including US and European papers as well as journalists based in Frankfurt) launched into a Greek verbal onslaught against Draghi who was left staring, while cameras were rolling.

Being heard into the mic of a reporter sitting next to him and about to ask a question, Vikettos accused the ECB chief of allowing only what he termed ‘his own journalists’ to take the floor.

‘What are we, decorative elements?’ he is reported to have said, before shouting out ‘You’re biased’ and making a furious exit. It seems that a Draghi aide attempted to translate the goings on to the governor, mumbling something about a protest.

We found out that a number of Cypriot reporters actually shared Vikettos’ views, with a daily paper referring to ‘tension at Draghi press conference, as Cypriot journalists complain of being sidelined’.

Everything happened so fast that the state broadcasters’ cameras missed the stormy exit. Really, come on! There also seemed to be a number of complaints about the quality of translation, with at least one source telling CW that they heard new economic terms being uttered.

The reason for the press conference is to spread propaganda.

The reason only a few insiders were allowed to ask questions is to spread propaganda.

The reason the "suits" all sit on a stage is to give some kind of officiality to the theft.

The reason propaganda is needed is to control the thoughts of the people, as any rational person looking at these policies based on merit would storm the banks with a pitchfork.

All these bankers lie, steal, cheat, and lie some more.  The system is dead evidenced by the dead spirits controlling it.

I find it very interesting how protests get co-opted nowadays.  This needs to be examined carefully. "Black Bloc" protestors are planted by government and quasi-government agencies to disrupt otherwise civil demonstrations.  Much vandalism and worse can be attributed to their ilk. I suspect most of the violence leading up to the torching of civilians in Maidan was committed by state-sanctioned terrorists posing as protestors.  Some may have been psychopaths dispatched from outside Ukraine.

Greek protesters clash with police in first backlash against Syriza (26-Feb)

"Dozens of black-clad protesters clashed with riot police in central Athens on Thursday, smashing shop windows, throwing petrol bombs and burning cars after an anti-government march, the first since the leftist Syriza party took power a month ago."

Thu, 03/05/2015 - 16:48 | 5858751 pods

At this point you almost have to assume everything is co-opted if it is important enough.

First it gets marginalized, then if that doesn't work, they go for co-opting it.

I think the blowing shit up is more of a function of a mob than anything else.  It is bound to happen.

Mobs are unpredictable.  Couple of provacoteurs added to a shitty situation and all hell breaks loose.

Being young, emotional, and full of testosterone just does not lead to good decisions.

No, I think smashing is highly to be desired as a means for creating alienation among the home viewing audience and discouraging widespread public support. We saw it in Canada when disguised cops were observed carrying big rocks at Montebello.  I suspect vandalism of select targets is a specific deliverable, part of their training.

No doubt. The key point is that the precedent is set.  It was actually set a long time ago; we're just learning again how to recognize it.  Controlling the opposition means controlling ALL the opposition.  If they could, the psychopaths would hijack God himself.  Oh, wait...

Why? Because you're selfish!

Now, my prisoners say

you plan to take your debt out of the EU Wasteland.

You sent them out this morning to find a financial vehicle.

A rigged deal big enough to haul that fat tank of debt.

What a puny plan!

Look around you.

This is the Valley of Financial Death.

See!

Nothing can escape! The Draghimungus rules the EU Wasteland!

But I have an honorable compromise.

Just walk away.

Give me the banks , the pensions , the gold , and all of Greece, and I'll spare your lives.

Just walk away. I will give you safe passage in the EU Wasteland.

Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror.

I await your answer.

You have one full day to decide.

TWO shoes. And the reporter would have kept throwing them if he had more feet.

This was the one time I actually admired something about Bush. The little weasel seemed suprisingly vigilant and agile at dodging the shoes. I never imagined he could move like that.

Granted, it wasn't like 'matrix' fast or crackhead fast, but I was still mildly impressed. Mixed emotions though - I was hoping for at least one solid, satisfying smack directly in his weaseley little face. [sigh]

Yeah, he realized it was going to be coming at him even before it got out of the reporters hand, he was already looking for the trajectory. He's a former fighter pilot Paveway, you either have that natural situational awareness all the time, or you won't be selected to fly fastjets.

I'd always presumed Bush's verbal and mental dumbness routine was pure act for that reason, you can find instances when he was neither dumb nor inarticulate. Dumb inarticulate people do not get to fly supersonic fighters. He was smart enough to know that playing the dumb was a distinct advantage sometimes, gives you more options, plus people underestimate you, lower their expectations of what you can do and draw false conclusions. Invaluable during cross examinations, or if playing for time.

Ronald Reagan also slipped in the 'Ol Gipper routine, and convenient memory recall issues, so was rendered a jocular wholesome dippy old guy, from B-grade movie land, so what could you really expect? Watch him in a debate though and his mind was sharp and clear. Obama plays golfer clown, while dicking around in the Oval office taking selfies, but inside the affable folksy clown lurks a rapacious steel trap of a mind, fully in touch with the little-people.

Politics is full of these people, the dumber and more folksy they seem, the more careful people should be about them. They may be a bit dumb, for real, but don't ever presume they are, because the smart ones always want people to implicitly presume that.

"...He's a former fighter pilot Paveway, you either have that natural situational awareness all the time, or you won't be selected to fly fastjets..."

I disagree. Bush Sr. was the only fighter pilot.

You had to have some ability to fly to go to flight school at all, even guys like Bush with connections. You didn't need any special ability to qualify for century-series jet training - that was like two-thirds of all the pilots in flight school. I could make a lot better argument for the unique set of skills a Navy/Marine or USAF A-1 Skyraider pilot needed.

Lil' Bush went through flight school and qualified in the soon-to-be-retired Texas ANG's F-102 Delta Dart interceptors. Technically a figher-interceptor, but the whole point of the F-102 was to intercept Russian bombers and shoot air-to-air missiles at them. They were barely capable of mach flight and would fall out of the sky like a rock if you turned them too hard. Useless in any ground-attack role. They were already almost fifteen year old second-generation fighter fossils when Bush learned to fly them.

The whole Texas ANG scam in the late 1960's was to get assigned to the 102s so you would never be sent to Viet Nam. F-102s were initially used as B-52 escorts early in the war, but soon became useless when there were no North Vietnamese fighters left to attack them. They were eventually pulled from Viet Nam all together. If you flew F-102s in the ANG anytime after 1968, that's all you did. You would never be forced to retrain in an F-4 or a F-105 and sent to Viet Nam. Bush was qualified in the early 70's - by 1976 even the ANG 102's were pulled from service and used as target-practice drones. Any pilot that went through 102 training when he did was just avoiding the potential of combat service in Viet Nam, period. There were plenty of Texas ANG pilots that WERE trained in modern jets, that served and died in Viet Nam.

Point taken about Bush appearing kind of dumb, though. I don't know if it was on purpose or not, but the wheels of evil never stopped turning in that guy's head.

People are losing respect for the 'authorities'. As far as these big bankers go, they have not conducted themselves in a way that DESERVES respect. I can completely understand this guy's frustration listening to that number-obsessed automaton say he's gonna print trillions out of thin air and pass it around, but continue to drain Greece for what little they have...the human cost of all this isn't even addressed...as if keeping the discussion restricted to numbers gives what he's actually SAYING a nice, respectable business veneer...

Don't be fooled by the false appearances here. These folks may SOUND like they are being cool, rational and businesslike, while those against them may LOOK like overly-emotional 'buffoons', but listen to what's actually being SAID. The Draghi camp is saying that THEY control money, and will decide who gets what, and when. They say that their right to collect payment and profits on bad investments stands above everyone else's very right to life.

If Draghi had come out and SAID that, people would throw things at him. But he croons about numbers and percentages and principles and everyone sits there.

It doesn't fool me anymore. I am NOT impressed with their lofty-sounding, self-righteous "principles" however well-phrased they are. I'm not impressed with their dedication to balanced books when I've seen how they do the math.

Yes, but....

"Then I saw what was wrong with the world, I saw what destroyed men and nations, and where the battle for life had to be fought. I saw that the enemy was an inverted morality—and that my sanction was its only power. I saw that evil was impotent—that evil was the irrational, the blind, the anti-real—and that the only weapon of its triumph was the willingness of the good to serve it."

And as Greece and Cyprus twist down in the wind, the Turkish lira unravels with WW2.5 simmering away next door in Syria / Iraq. The edge of Europe (Crimea +Austrian banks, etc) and Asia is very, very frayed. Now with Internet Time, it won't take years for contagion to spread like it did in the 1900s. Jets and rockets falling from the sky "over there" are now joined with banks and currencies and whole economies falling down. I wish I could be optimistic.

‘What are we, decorative elements?’

He means journalists? No no, in most cases they're more like "active participants", "defenders of the status quo" or "partners in crime" these days. Certainly not critical and independent news gatherers.

But as to Greece I'm a bit torn between two sentiments: I know there is a lot of misery in that country, and I sympathize, I truly do, but on the other hand: how about starting to pay your taxes if you want some form of sustainable economy? That's what I do, as well as a lot of other people, in exchange for which I/they expect some form of "not too big too fail" and sufficiently performant government. Greece should try that for a change

And f*ck my beloved EU, for they cooked the books for Greece. The "cradle of democracy" apparently was a trophy wife for the union. Now face up to the consequences.
