Greece Folds (Again); Ready To Propose "New" Reforms Immediately

Tyler Durden's picture

Following earlier comments from various Eurogroup members - after yesterday's dismissal of Greece's proposed "reforms" - ranging from Slovakia's "Greece needs to face the naked truth," to Dijsselbloem's "we seem to be losing time on Greece," and Schaeuble's "not a lot has happened on Greece," it appears Greece has quickly folded once again and acquiesced to EU's demands for harsher cuts. With cash unlikely to last more than 3 weeks and being unlikely to get the EU1.9bn in bond profits from the ECB (according to EU officials), Greek officials have stated that they are "willing to enrich" the list of reforms.

Some helpful comments as leaders arrived at today's Eurogroup meeting:

  • *GREECE NEEDS TO FACE NAKED TRUTH, KAZIMIR SAYS
  • *SAPIN: GREECE NEEDS TO WORK `SERIOUSLY' ON ECONOMY PLAN
  • *IFO'S SINN DON'T SEE PROGRESS IN GREECE SITUATION
  • *SCICLUNA SAYS EXPECTS MORE COMMITMENT FROM GREECE
  • *DIJSSELBLOEM SAYS `SEEM TO BE LOSING TIME' ON GREECE
  • *SCHAEUBLE SAYS NOT A LOT HAS HAPPENED ON GREECE
  • *SCHAEUBLE SAYS GREECE MUST REFRAIN FROM ONE-SIDED MEASURES

And this...

  • *GREECE UNLIKELY TO GET EU1.9B FROM BOND PROFITS: EU OFFICIAL
  • *GREECE'S CASH MAY LAST UP TO 3 WEEKS, EU OFFICIAL SAYS

As Bloomberg notes,Greece is willing to add more reforms to proposed list...

Eurogroup must remain political body, shouldn’t discuss technical details, a Greek govt official, who asked not to be named in line with policy said by e-mail.

Greece seeks political progress in today’s meeting; govt willing to enrich list with other reforms, some of which will be directly submitted to technical delegation: govt official

Reforms suggested concern govt’s 2015 budget: govt official

Greece is working in best possible way to meet commitments to its euro-area peers, while respecting Greek people’s dignity: govt official

3 reforms that will be submitted to technical delegation, not included in first list are reviewing past income tax declarations, cross-checking triangular transactions, incentives for collecting receipts: govt official

The future of "elected" governments is clear:  Civil unrest.  They all say one thing during the campaign and do something completely different sucking bankster balls when in power.

The future is discord, guaranteed.  The snapping point of the people will come.

Followed by a gentleman who will invite himself for lunch one day to make it clear that he's confident that they will come around to the plans that the ECB, IMF and EU have for Greece.

Next up:  Golden Dawn.  It will be fun watching the Eurocrats try to make vassals of them. They would have to do it with human compromise. I bet Brussels is bringing in some hot trannies to augment their usual stable of pimped-out little boys.

At least SYRIZA willingly drank the Keynesian-socialist-PC koolaid which the Eurocrats peddle to useful idiots. Golden Dawn will need their drinks spiked. Something stronger. Something which can lead to spectacular perversions, all caught on tape. A tanker of scopolamine from the CIA?

A clear and imminent threat to the ECB and most of the EU cabal. You have a formidable opposition to the Euro bullshit.

Like it or not, but the only viable road to freedom in Europe is with a strong far right coalition that spans the entire continent.

The Euroweenies are scared shitless for that reason. This is Europe, my friend. There is a whole lot more going on than they're willing to address or admit.

Tsipras and Yanis Varoufakis are furiously working to pillage Greece on behalf of the bankers and to put Greece into a position where it is even less capable to fight back.  If the Greeks do not boot Syriza within weeks, no months, all pools of cash will have been moved (pensions among others) to the EU and bankers.  The two fooled everyone as to who they were aligned with.

Golden Dawn may even be in some way outlawed to delay any real challange.

Then the Greeks can spend money they do not have buying arms from Germany and France for the new EU army.  The benefit being that that new army takes residence within Greece and acts as an enforcer that is only responsible to Brussels.  You can see it coming.

Ew -- why would you put such an image in my mind?  Thats horrible Ghrodo.  Seriously not cool.

That aside, I say fuck Greece because of the constant "hin und zu" of this Dreek Grama.

I wish they would have an honest government.  Just ones, one that either says

"Hey guys, we are really screwed.  The way things sit today are as good as they are going to get for a while.  Sorry" and not offer a false sense of hope to a group of people.

or

"Hey guys, we are really screwed.  We are leaving the EU and EMZ."

But the odds of honest politicians -- especially in Greece is slim to none, thus I agree with the above and extreme violence in public is likely the only option now.  The rest of the West should take notes.  If anyone thinks they are going to change anything at the ballot box (given Greece as an Beispiel) they are sadly mistaken.

yes, and Victoria Nuland has the same patience for political processes. and increasingly, many Nulanders are repeating the mantra that "democracy does not work the way we want, here and now, ergo democracy works... nowhere"

on the center-right of the Greek political spectrum you have some 60-65% of Greeks that do not want to exit the EUR or the EU

on the center-left of the Greek political spectrum you have a near-majority that elected Syriza because of the debt and austerity

there is a cross section of those two group, but it's probably around less then half of both camps. that's a circle that Greeks have to square off

meanwhile, your "...extreme violence in public is likely the only option now..." is Nulandesque, too. if the world does not behave the way we want it to behave... engage extreme violence

beware of becoming a Nulander yourself

that's very, very American of you, I fear. you equate sovereignty with raw power

a sovereign can be occupied, it's government in exile, and still be a sovereign. further, sovereigns are often in financial troubles, and sometimes they even default, or suffer a hyperinflation

I'm sorry, I'm using the word the way it's defined and used in the rest of the world, where sovereigns abound. your definition is way narrower and tied to a specific American internal discussion

"a sovereign can be occupied, it's government in exile, and still be a sovereign"

From the Montevideo Convention on the Rights and Duties of States :

Article 1 :

The state as a person of international law should possess the following qualifications: a ) a permanent population; b ) a defined territory; c ) government; and d) capacity to enter into relations with the other states.

Mon, 03/09/2015 - 12:34 | 5869852 Ghordius
Ghordius's picture

I think you put too much... whatever, on conventions like Montevideo instead of conventions in the sense of how humans behave

history is a better teacher. Belgium, for example, was occupied twice in the last 100 years, and in both cases it kept being a sovereign

it's the same as for the strange ideas you have about "international law". certain things do prop up all the times independently from the international written conventions

one example is how prisoners of war are treated

Cato did not need a Geneva Convention to accuse Caesar in the Senate of having committed genocide on two Peoples that had surrendered to him in this campaign in Gaul

the general assumption of all ages is that if you surrender, then the occupier cannot do whatever it wants without any respect of anything, period. you end up on the wrong side of history if you do that too often, and too much

We have to be grateful for the Marshall plan, yes.  As for cheap credits...not so sure about that.  I somehow suspect Americans profited mightily from Europe after 1945.  A while ago I read only 49 percent of shares in Deutsche bank are in German hands.  Large part owned by non-Europeans ?  Supposedly we do not know who owns Belgian government bonds.  Should do some research on the financial flows between Europe and America since 1945.  Have you got any good sources ?

the closest I could come up with is;

The Greek citizens lived under the illusion that an election would change things. Electing a new party or candidate changes nothing.

Politicians are always controlled by the bankers. After all, the type of deception known as the illusion of choice is a specialty of the banksters.

They then build on that deception by creating the illusion of free markets and the illusion of economic growth. In actuality, the markets are rigged casinos where the house always wins and the economy is a form of debt enslavement whose chains are wrapped around the population.

To the folks who never read Tsipras open letter to Germany... it's never too late.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-01-29/alexis-tsipras-open-letter-germ...

They are trying to work out a compromise but it's becoming increasingly clear that 1) there is no compromise to be had and 2) the purpose of the four month window is to replace the existing government with anyone who will "play ball".

I will be very surprised if Greece does not choose to exit the EU in short order and default on it's debt.  Of course this will create a contagion via derivatives and the central bankers will have their scape goat for the next economic collapse (Greece).  Germany and Great Britain will be the next to leave the Euro and this will likely lead to a military confrontation on several fronts (in addition to the conflicts we have currently in the Middle East and Ukraine).

When I think about the tremendous human suffering that lies ahead, it's hard not to be overwhelmed with sadness.  Be thankful for every day folks.  Because there is no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow for any of us.

Banks are very important 'conduits' for Socialist governments! They help to montetize tax-payer debt for them! Bankers partner with government & do look for repayment of loans. Governemts do everything in their power to make sure payment arrangements are made so they can continue to use the banks for further use. Bankers without government access & approval are toothless! Look to infected keynesian government CENTRAL BANKING deficit debt strategy if you are looking for the REAL culprit!

The Syriza government is actually in the driving seat. When a partner owes another partner an unpayable debt, he actually has a much better negotiating position because of the potential losses involved.  Syriza knows full well what the impact on the EU as a whole will be if Greece defaults. So do the Germans. Therefore what we have is a game of bluff and counter bluff.  An exit is very likely, but the Germans would like it to be at a time of their choosing. They are desperate to avoid a domino effect as other countries line up fro special treatment. It looks like death by a thousand cuts for the EU.

No Guts, No Glory!

Syriza leaders should have been prepared for the worst; and should have anticipated that it would come to that. Obviously, they didn't.

Had Syriza imposed strict controls on deposits, on financial transactions, and on foreign exchanges at the very first day, It would have prevented the massive vacuuming of Greece's financial sector. With all the money removed from the system, they faced starvation.

I wish that they had gone ahead with the referendum. It would be a true measure of democracy. It is a testament to the cowardice and deceit at the root of all political parties, who "champion" democracy leading up to the polls, but reject it while in office.

Then,  in the winter of his discontent at seeing Pax Britannica fade into oblivion, during the 1930s when he couldn't prevent his "rule Britannia" knee jerk from disappearing from the annals of history, based of a two hundred year time line of Malborough's and Clive's combined legacy, he found his finest hour when Hitler out-did the scions of Pax Britannica by heralding in the age of Aryan purity and natoinal socialism.
