Dead-Cat-Bounce Dies: Euro-calypse Sparks Stock Slump, Commodity Carnage
But we were promised a bounce?
Stocks tried their best to dead cat abounce and squeeze higher... Trannies and small caps bounced with oil prices in the afternoon...
Now getting ugly post Payrolls... and from the Nasdaq 5000 euphoria... Dow now down 650 from its highs
Year-to-date, S&P and Dow are now down 1%, Trannies down 2.7% - all 3 of which catching down to unch post-QE3...
March has been ugly for all sectors though financials have outperformed...
With CCARs due shortly, financial stocks remain hopeful...
The Dollar just keeps on going... led by a continued collapse in the euro...
EURUSD 1.0511 lows... Jan 2003 lows
Treasury yields rose in themorning but a 10Y auction that bid through sparked significant buying to bash 30Y 15bps lower on the week... 10Y and 30Y yields are now down from payrolls
Credit markets decoupled once again hinting at the dead-cattiness of the bounce...
The dollar strength whacked commodities some more...
With crude testing down towards cycle low...

Euro should have been at parity with the Dollar in 2010, and 10 year yields to 5% - but that would be in an altermate dimension where there are actual markets and price discovery, jail for corrupt bankers, and mature rational adults in charge.
VWAP and traps worked well today. Doesn't matter what type of day it is as long as one sticks to his/ her plan.

Hey 1fortheroad. My definition of a trap is when a key level breaks and traders are sucked into going with it but the trend reverses and leaves these guys stranded or 'trapped'. Using today as an example: the price (S&P) broke below yesterdays low twice throughout today's session, newbie traders and weak hands assume it will keep going and don't have stops in place but then panic as on each occasion it reversed back up to VWAP to give approx 5/6 points on each trade. This is a regular set up but advise a stop 2 Pts below the low in case it doesn't work. Hope that helps.

The traps I was tought is when they stack the bid or offer to make one side look weak, lets say they stack the bid, looks like everyone is buying or wanting to buy but in reality they are selling. Look for it and you will see sometimes. Using the DOM helps me see it more clearly.
1fortheroad, I use that technique some times when cashing in on options. If I own some options and want to sell but the bid/ask spread is too big I can tighten up the bid by placing my own bids until others follow, then I withdraw the bids and sell to those higher bidders. It has worked a few times.

When the big boys do this, Stack the bid or ask its pretty obvious. They mostly do it on stocks but I have seen them do it in the futures market.

Yeah, no one should have any major concerns on purchases made when the price is DXY driven (assuming you plan to hold a while, of course.) It's just stronger dollars letting you buy more phyz, not gold getting cheaper.

Gold price in €uros (€ 1095 @2300 CET +7,04) keeps creeping higher. Should be even with the $ price soon. It will be interesting to see if gold in both currencies are evenly wacked once parity has been reached. Regardless of the paper fun and games, both are on the path of implosion. Crude jumped $10 in two days, and in actual trading time about two hours just over a month ago.
An entire month of decline wiped out in minutes. It can happen again and just like last time it will happen for no reason.
Stocks may be down 3.5%, but just like any time in the past six years they can climb 10% out of nowhere.
