Yes.  This is just another side effect of an economy that's just too strong for its own good.

Anyway, as a staunch liberal, I think this is a great development and hope it curtails global warming.

Yet ... coffee is still ten bucks for 12 ounces at the grocery.

When are any of these charts gonna make a difference I can appreciate?

It looks like there will be lumber liquidation...they may well crash into the buffer stop at such speed that their laminates will curl. It will be like standing in the way of a very determined caber toss. At that point, it will probably be too late to knock on wood.

Economic collapse brought about complete deforestation as desperate and starving people scavenged the countryside and ate wood-ashes for sustenance.

Any chemists out there that can give me their 2 cents?  Is the formaldehyde in air freshers?  When I worked for California schools the portable classrooms had to be constructed with ultra-low levels of formaldehyde in the plywood, carpet and wall coverings. They got tested and certified by various agencies and still parents complained that their kids got sick from the "glues" in the wood (despite us leaving the windows open all summer before classes resumed in the Fall).  A chemist told us that the levels were because the teachers left half a dozen air freshers around which contained formaldehyde.

Every product that contains chemicals etc that is sold has to have a MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET known as a MSDS report.  There is a searchable data base provided by the US Gov.  These reports are useful to see what is in and how much of it is in the products that you are using.  They are very useful for people that do backyard or kitchen top chemistry for sourcing materials.  http://www.msds.com/  This one is better http://www.msdssearch.com/DBLinksN.htm

Five years ago I had extended, heated debates with the person who I most often discussed the inflation vs deflation argument with. He felt that Robert Prechter was worng. Prechter is an Elliot wave theorist that believed we would deflate. He felt the Fed would huff and puff into overtime, yet still be impotent to overpower the force of deflation.

We ended up agreeing only that we would likely see both inflation AND deflation before the game ended.

And now it appears that Prechter and his ilk were right. For now. Money velocity is stagnant. It would appear that indeed money needs to be shoveled out of helicopters (no loans... just free money) to get people to spend faster and create price inflation.

One way or another I tend to believe we will still inflate. Perhaps hyper-inflate. Great buying opportunities in PMs this year.

No rising wages, no hyperinflation.  When credit doesn't expand, deflation big time.

Hyperinflation is a psychological phenomenon, not a monetary one. Rising wages are not necessary for hyperinflation to appear.

I think that we will have both also.  That which has been traditionally bought on credit (houses, cars) will deflate, while that which is consumed will inflate.

Part of my inflate thinking though is actually backwards, because it is more of a function of the value of the dollar not being shit.

hyperinflation isn't about the currency, it is about the government that issues the currency. When confidence in a particular government collapses, the currency it issues begins to hyperinflate.

We will get hyperinflation in the US when confidence in the Federal government collapses. Judging from the current behavior of the fucknuts and dipshits that populate this country, they are at least five years away from waking up, which means we are more than five years away from hyperinflation.

I live near and regularly drive past two large saw mill/lumber yards. I have NEVER seen so many logging trucks delivering trees and cut lumber stacked in the yard EVER. Draw your own conclusions, but in my mind someone thinks that there's going to be increased demand...

I would be more inclined to believe that the mills have encountered unanticipated weak demand, that raw materials are as a result and due to lag building up on their yards, and that mills are likely now cutting back on purchases of said raw materials.

I wonder if unemployment benefit claims are up of late in places like Oregon.
