Varoufakis' Latest Fiasco: FinMin Claims "Middle Finger To Germany" Clip Fake; Germany Disagrees
It was a tough weekend (again) for Greece's embattled FinMin Yanis Varoufakis. After walking out on a CNBC interview when asked if he was a liability (after his photo shoot caused a storm in Greece), a video surfaced showing the outspoken minister giving the middle finger to Germany saying "solve the problem yourself." He has come out swinging this morning, as The Telegraph reports, Varoufakis exclaims, "That video was doctored. I've never given the finger, I've never given the middle finger ever." However, the user who uploaded it to YouTube denied it was a fake and, based on The Telegraph's poll, 67% believe Varoufakis did it. Furthemore, the German talk-show that aired the clip has confirmed "no evidence of manipulation or falsification," and, for the first time, a majority of Germans now want Greece out of the union.

In a further sign of the deterioration of trust in the 'union, 52% of polled Germans said they no longer wanted Greece to remain part of the currency union, up from 41% last month.
Worst of all, ekathimerini reports that German TV has now stated that the video is not fake, suggesting Varoufakis is in fact a liar.
Varoufakis, who took part in a live discussion with other guests via a link from Athens, insisted on air that the video of him speaking at a 2013 event in the Croatian capital, Zagreb, had been "doctored".
Jauch, the host of the popular show that draws millions of viewers, announced at the end of the programme that the video would be examined to try to clear the matter up.
"As far as we know at this stage the editorial department of Guenther Jauch can determine no indication whatsoever of manipulation or falsification in the video shown during the live show," it said in a statement Monday.
It said the video was being further checked by experts.
So will Varoufakis reign as FinMin outlast Greece's liquidity, pardon, (lack of) cash flow?

I guess that means a majority of Germans now favor directly bailing out their banks after they go tits up due to Greece bond defaults, rather than the indirect way the banks have been getting bailout(IMF "lends" money to Greece to make interest payments on the bonds held by the ECB and all the TBTF European banks). At least if Greece leaves the union and defaults, the bailouts would be more in the open and 'more transparent' which I've heard is all the rage these days. Since we are already witnessing one German bank get bailed out due to the Austrian bank fiasco, obviously letting the banks fail and go out of business isn't an option.... Pay up, serfs.
German citizens are completely dillusional and have no idea how the Euro works...have no idea the Euro is a mercantilist trap for the rest of Europe so Germany can run huge trade surplus' with them and not suffer a rise in the value of their currency (a would be natural breaking force in their tradde surplus). Of course German citizens just believe they are harder working (which may be true) but don't see they are destroying the economies of all their neighbors perpetually running huge trade surplus'...and the only means to keep these customers is to keep funneling them cheaper debt.
I know this may be hard to believe given the events of the last century, but German citizens are not the most inquisitive of what their government is really doing...and seem to swallow propaganda without any trouble.

The way the "gotcha" game works, Varoufakis and the government will show some bravado for a day or two, the pressure will mount and he will withdraw. Another pin knocked down.
The banksters realy want to see him out of there. I'd really like to see the Sariza government stand up to them and refuse to let him resign, but I don't know if that's possible.
The reality is they can get something on anyone now. Absolutely anyone. If a 10-year archive of videos, surveillance and intercepted emails can't come up with something, they can fabricate it. Or clip a few words of you quoting someone in a long forgotten conversation. Or maybe they can get a webcam shot from the NSA of you picking your nose. And then the media echo chamber goes to work until it's everywhere on the planet 24-7 and it's all anyone on the news will talk or ask about until you quit and slink away!

He basically spoke like he had spent a little too much time on ZH - well except for all the "marxist" and "enemy" rhetoric, which will alianate most potential allies he might have found among "non-marxists" economic conservatives/banking cartel haters. Many things he said were quite sensible and common-sense-like, which of course is against the law of central governators and probably one reason he is being targeted now. He also has this smirky kind of intellectual arrogance about him, which will probably not help him out with his EU brothers either. I guess it is not allowed for newbies in the EU to be visibly confident-come-arrogant, when you have not yet risen through the degrees.
In any case - they will find that video presentation, the clip was taken from, a treasure trove of politically incorrect insults to haunt him with in the future. I believe he also referred to the IMF as a bunch of criminals or idiots or similar - and how he would use them for short term safety plank only to dump them as soon as he could possibly get away with it. A case of loose lips and sunken ships, maybe?

not only was this alleged finger-giving actually from 2013 before Varoufakis was even finance minister of Greeece or any gov official at all, but Varoufakis was actually referring to a speech in 2010 in which he suggested giving the finger to germany in the form of debt default. So this is something taken out of context from long time ago when circumstances were different.
