Russian Submarine Activity Surges 50% Since 2014, Admiral Claims "Not Saber-Rattling"

Tyler Durden's picture

With US forces moving into Poland, Russian "rapid-response" drills underway, and navy exercises in the Baltic Sea, the idea of "saber-rattling" now seems obvious. However, as NATO closes in on its borders, the Russian Navy’s commander, Admiral Chirkov, stated that the intensity of Russian submarines’ combat patrol missions has been up 50% since the beginning of 2014. As the nation celebrates "Submariner Day", Chirkov explained, "we do not indulge in saber rattling... this is necessary and natural for guaranteed security of the state."

As TASS reports,

The intensity of Russian submarines’ combat patrol missions has been up 50% since the beginning of 2014, the Russian Navy’s commander, Admiral Chirkov, said on the occasion of Submariner Day.

"I can say that the intensity of combat patrol missions by strategic and multi-role nuclear-powered submarines in the World Ocean is maintained at a level that guarantees the security of our country.

Moreover, I should say that in January 2014 through March 2015 the intensity of combat patrol missions by our submarines has been up by 50% in contrast to 2013," Chirkov said.

"This is necessary and natural for guaranteed security of the state," Admiral Chirkov said. "We do not indulge in saber rattling. We are just regaining our foothold," he said.

Chirkov said last year alone ten crews were trained for Northern and Pacific Fleet submarines, expected to patrol various parts of the World Ocean.

*  *  *

This comes a day after Chirkov explained that Russia will upgrade 10 of its multi-purpose nuclear submarines...

"This process is accompanied by the work to maintain the combat readiness of existing-project strategic nuclear submarines and their basic armaments," the Navy chief said.

* * *

Nope, no saber-rattling byu eother side at all...

Sadly we no longer have McHale's Navy:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNvibK9jgYA

Ernie Borgnine used to use the boat for fishing in the weekends in Cali.

Instead we have McCain's (NeoCon) Navy where Admiral McCain covered up the USS Liberty and refused to send F-4s and US Navy help.   The first ship to render aid to the USS Liberty was Russian.

Here's another one you can add to McCain's dossier, "The Mystery of Senator McCain". It's written in Russian, but the machine translation of it is good enough to make it understandable.

It's based on an interview with retired Soviet Lieutenant Colonel Yuri Trushechkin shortly before his death in January 2009. He was a member of the Soviet rocket squad that shot down McCain. (During the first two years of service of the S-75 SAM, they were operated by Soviet crews.) This interview is the only one given by Trushechkin in which he went into any detail about the incident.

The account given of what happened to McCain while in captivity differs in many ways from the account given by McCain himself. I am not in a position to say which story is more accurate. Nevertheless, the article offers a possible reason why, "in the fevered brain of McCain for so many years is completely impenetrable fortress of hatred for everything connected with Russia," and the explanation doesn't rely on any torture scenario.

The Nobel prize Winner wants to dominate Russia and Putin's proving he is no pushover:

Washington’s War on Russia

“In order to survive and preserve its leading role on the international stage, the US desperately needs to plunge Eurasia into chaos, (and) to cut economic ties between Europe and Asia-Pacific Region … Russia is the only (country) within this potential zone of instability that is capable of resistance. It is the only state that is ready to confront the Americans. Undermining Russia’s political will for resistance… is a vitally important task for America.”

-Nikolai Starikov, Western Financial System Is Driving It to War, Russia Insider

“Our first objective is to prevent the re-emergence of a new rival, either on the territory of the former Soviet Union or elsewhere, that poses a threat on the order of that posed formerly by the Soviet Union. This is a dominant consideration underlying the new regional defense strategy and requires that we endeavor to prevent any hostile power from dominating a region whose resources would, under consolidated control, be sufficient to generate global power.”

-The Wolfowitz Doctrine, the original version of the Defense Planning Guidance, authored by Under Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, leaked to the New York Times on March 7, 1992

The United States does not want a war with Russia, it simply feels that it has no choice. If the State Department hadn’t initiated a coup in Ukraine to topple the elected president, Viktor Yanukovych, then the US could not have inserted itself between Russia and the EU, thus, disrupting vital trade routes which were strengthening nations on both continents. The economic integration of Asia and Europe–including plans for high-speed rail from China (“The New Silk Road”) to the EU–poses a clear and present danger for the US whose share of global GDP continues to shrink and whose significance in the world economy continues to decline.

In the end we will all lose. I suspect man was here 50,000 or more years ago and wiped each other out... sort of like the game chutes and ladders...

Just useless public displays.  Having the subs out there is important but there is no direct nuke attack planned on Russia.

How many of Russia's allies (Russia has no true allies) has the west directly, or through proxy armies, destroyed?  How many of the US allies has Russia destroyed?  Russia is scared because the push in now very close to their borders due to always backing down and backing up.  Just think what could have been if Russia shielded Iraq, Libya, Syria.

Same with Iran.  Syria is close to falling and Iran knows they would be next.  So now Iran gives some direct assistance.  Too late I think.

Oh, did Russia not approve the Iranian sanctions?  Did not Russia abstaine from voting against the sanctions against Libya, thus allowing the sanctions and no fly zone to be approved.

Yes, the West is now up to Russia's borders. Do you think they are going to surrender? They have repeatedly said they will use nuclear weapons if necessary to defeat any attempt on their homeland and that they will act to preempt any buildup to threaten them.

Is that what you 'exceptional and indispensable' lunatics in the West want, a nuclear war? The US military seems to want it, they are planning a first strike. There is no operating MAD doctrine like there was during the Cold War (version one) to restrain the mass murderers in the US.

We are sitting on the edge of a knife.

From studying history it is true that the Russias do not saber rattle, they suddenly attack. If only the idiots and lunatics in the US understood this they would not push NATO troops up near the Russian borders.

The Russians will lay low and let NATO stage near their borders. Sure, they will conplain a bit, but make almost no threats or bluster. When the Russians think we are staging for offensive operations they will suddenly attack.

The West is totally foolish and self-destructive, and don't remember what fighting a real war on thousands of miles of open space is like. This is what the Russians excel at. If a land war in eastern Europe starts I expect the Russians will roll NATO up to the German border. The wildcard is nuclear weapons.

How droll!

Since 1981 it has been Defense Borrowing and recently we've seen Defense Printing.

Fortunately for the Russians, the chief article of faith of the MIC is the right of the defense contractors to produce and sell worthless weapon systems to the US military, the right of the Pentagon to insist on buying moar of these worthless weapons, and the power of Congress to require that the Pentagon buy moar, on those few occasions when the army's better judgement wants to try a weapon that works.
