Oil, S&P Futures Soar As Quad Witch Volatility Arrives
Just as we warned not even two hours ago, things on quad-witching get exciting, and volatile.
And sure enough, after starting out the overnight session calmly and without much fanfare, US equity futures have proceeded to surge on absolutely no news, but merely what appears to be the latest market-wide stop hunt, or as the CME's central bank liquidity rebate program is being put to good use.
The target: taking out any and all stops since the post-FOMC highs.
As for oil... well, why not.

or, expiration of futres, options on futures, equity futires, etc..
in the old normal it meant the expiration of several different classes of options and futures (4).
in the new normal it means lots of "volatility" all to the upside.
Its one of four days out of the year when "The Street" games 4 times as much loot as usuall.... end of Quarter piling on you might say.

I don't know if you folks saw the article on Drudge about the Forest Service asking their employees to take an "unconscious bias" test, but I took the test and it is the biggest political pile of horsesh!t I have seen in a while (and that's saying a lot). I recommend taking it, but rather than give all of your data, use the middle ground to test out the test. I chose independent and neutral for everything and said that I was of more than two backgrounds racially (which we all are, we're fucking mutts). Anyway, the test "indicated" that I have a slightly more bias to liking BO - however, the only bias that I have for BO is the bias of waiting until he leaves the office. Anyway, take a look if you want, but man-oh-man it is a righteous pile of dookie!

It is amazing how these markets seem to go higher and higher as the economic reports move lower and lower. But if you look at the majority of stocks, we really have not moved in either direction for months. Sure you can hit the lottery, but most of my scans are boring....Except of course for my miners, gold and silver which have not recovered at all.
It is what it is and at some point it will all stop. Till then, the slot machines are open.

Call me a conspiracist (or is that empiricist), but hardly traded this week, as there was evidence of expiration strike pinning (which now, obviously, appears to be the higher strikes, using Yellen for short-bashing) and/or quarter-end performance painting, particularly in smaller caps. “Why not just lg to sm cap reallocations based on the dollar?” you ask. Well, seeing it minute-by-minute, it seemed less a sophisticated buy program, being more spiky and ham-fisted, brazen in its task.
It's an options expiration fuckfest in currencies right now.
Trade fast. Some prices mean nothing.

at one point this morning, the biotech ETF was extremely overbought on a 1 min, 5 min, 10 min, 30 min, 1 hour, 2 hour, daily, weekly and monthly basis. all of them had RSIs above 80.
incredible. it's like winning a grand slam when there are 9 tournaments included. statistically impossible, unless rigged.
Convenient time for Fed to inject money into equities as the injection can be disquised against the background of volatility normally seen in quad witching.
Now, what to do about those pesky PMs.
