Fighting The "War on Terror" By Banning Cash

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Joseph Salerno via Mises Institute,

It was just a matter of time before Western governments used the trumped up "War on Terror" as an excuse to drastically ratchet up the very real war on the use of cash and personal privacy that they are waging against their own citizens.

Taking advantage of public anxiety in the wake of the attacks on Charlie Hebdo and a Jewish supermarket, France has taken the first step.  It seems the terrorists involved partially financed these attacks by cash, as well as by consumer loans and the sale of counterfeit goods. What a shockeroo!

The terrorists used CASH to purchase some of the stuff they needed--no doubt these murderers were also shod and clothed and used  cell phones, cars, and public sidewalks during the planning and execution of their mayhem.   Why not restrict their use?  A naked , barefoot terrorist without communications is surely less effective than a fully clothed and equipped one.

Despite the arrant absurdity of blaming cash and financial privacy for these crimes,  French Finance Minister Michel Sapin brazenly stated  that it was necessary to "fight against the use of cash and anonymity in the French economy."

He then announced extreme and despotic measures to further restrict the use of cash by French residents and to spy on and pry into their financial affairs.

These measures, which  will be implemented in September 2015, include:

Prohibiting  French residents from making cash payments of more than 1,000 euros, down from the current limit of  3,000 euros.

Given the parlous state of the stagnating French economy the limit for foreign tourists on currency payments will remain higher, at 10,000 euros down from the current limit of 15,000 euros.

The threshold below which a French resident is  free to convert euros into other currencies without having to show an identity card will be slashed from the current level of 8,000 euros to 1,000 euros.

In addition any cash deposit or withdrawal of more than 10,000 euros during a single month will be reported to the French anti-fraud and money laundering agency Tracfin.

French authorities will also have to be notified of any freight transfers within the EU exceeding 10,000 euros, including checks, pre-paid cards, or gold.

The barter system is well understood and practiced throughout

the Mediterranean and that includes Spain Italy and France!

And the rest of us will learn that system sooner rather than later...

A Parallel Economy arises whenever the Official Economy becomes unjust and ineffective. It's human nature.

The Parallel Economy will always use what is available, practical, and efficient.

This includes: Barter, Cash, Gold, Foreign Currency or Crypto-currencies. In any combination.

French can still hoard US Dollars and I'm sure there's a black market for the real good stuff which accepts anything but plastic or Euro trash.

USSR tried this and failed miserably.

No government can survive long term with capital "controls".

Money is like water, it will always follow the path of least resistance.

Gerard Depardieu knew what he was doing when he left France with his cash. He went to Russia.

Getting folks acclimatized to daily withdrawal amounts could be a great tool for easing the future bank runs. It will of course be the death knell for some small businesses. Free market economy? Been dead for years.

I actually fear it ends with our personal property, the roofs over our heads, and our guns.  Not in that order.

Gold goes down first, easy pickings for government thieves and won't bother 95% of our democracy.  Easy peasy lemon-squeazy.

Just set up a big bank on every road and aiport into the country.  Problem solved.  Everyone will get a bank card while in the country, as well as a tracking device.  And you can only use your card at government approved stores.  Done.  Fuck I wish I was joking here.  But somehow in the next 10 years I expect to be hearing things like that for our supreme protection.

Also fighting the war on individual sovereignty, prostitution, drugs, alcohol, and insert any number of bs control mechanisms here.

I'm sure they realize the crime will continue, just mutate, probably why home gardens are now regulated.

Dark days are headed our way and we argue about the color of our doom.

Give control of the growing of wheat to the government and you will soon want for bread.

Give it to the banksters, and bread will soon be a distant memory.

Same as it ever was.

In Italy we used a different excuse to justify the fight against the use of cash: the war to the tax evaders. This war was promoted by the Left Wing, the same that endorsed Mr Mario Monti (the one who boasted of having destroyed the domestic demand of his Country) during his dreadful government after Berlusconi's resignation in 2011. Nowadays in Italy it is not possible to pay more than 1000 euros in cash. Nevertheless curruption is still the same, according to official statistics.

You may change the excuses, but the "structural reforms" in the terrible Eurozone are always the same.

I hope that in the USA you shall defense your right to pay in cash.

The biggest problem is the general population is putting up with this bull shit.

They will obey and follow right over the cliff and if there are any survivors they will wonder what happened.

There are a few of us who can say we tried to warn you.

But they treat us today like pariah.  Outcasts, not in our right minds, radicals, and so many other words denigrating our character.

Yet we know we are not what they claim.

WTF are the serial numbers for on currency? do the western smart guys not ref and record the serial numbers of hard currecny that makes it way down to the middle east in the form of aid....that way when pallets stacked with cash gets stoeln by ISIS they should easily follow the money.....instead of shrugging shoulders when terrorists take money....I guess everything needs to be digital so then we can fear "hackers" let them play the for "your own security andf protection" card  (their only card that they seem to play) and give them a premise to really handcuff and regulate the internet...

LOL  The serial numbers mean nothing.  I can not remember the last time I looked at them.

<<WTF are the serial numbers for on currency?>>

They distract the sheeple away from the fact that the bills are counterfeit anyways with or without the numbers.

So...... they print 10,000,000,000 copies of the same serial number.  Who would know?  Everybody still has the same incentive to spend them as before.

The Bible isn't some fairy tale book of stories after all now is it? It is only a matter of time before any non-electronic commerce transactions are banned (except for black market of course). This is the only way that the Antichrist who will run the show can control billions of people. If its technology related I can't get my head around what the image of the beast will be and if you don't worship it you will be killed.

"The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name." - Revelation 13

Of course they have to make sure as much funds as possible are IN before they start with the bail-ins... However, their very actions might actually cause a financial and economic calamity... Once people realize and nation-wide people start withdrawing whatever legal amount, then it is game over, as the trust - or what was left of it - will be gone for good.

It was only a question of time before this happened. We discussed /predicted this trend for the first time on acting man in 2010 in the context of Sweden's cash ban plans, which likewise use the faux ecxuse of "security" to rob the citizenry of the last vestiges of financial privacy: http://www.acting-man.com/?p=2710

These laws represent a major loss of individual freedom. The velvet glove that has been slipped over the iron fist is becoming ever more threadbare.

Does this sound remotely familiar:

The Final Solution reached its height just as Germany’s military fortunes began to ebb. Severe wartime privations, ever-mounting death tolls, growing anxiety about the fate of loved ones engaged in a savage and increasingly desperate struggle on an ever-retreating Eastern Front, the disintegration of everyday life caused by an ever-intensifying Allied bombing offensive against Germany’s cities—all crimped human empathy, to say nothing of collective action.

So, obviously, did fear. Throughout his history, Evans has chronicled the corrosive effects on German society of the Nazis’ network of surveillance and intimidation. In this latest volume, he perceptively highlights the effectiveness of the Nazi state’s coercive methods of winning and sustaining popular compliance, and the constrictions thus imposed on even the most innocuous individual action.

And of course this won't work, other than enslave people. There are (european) laws that forbid to carry arms.... for your own good they say. The only ones who have weaponry are the police, the army and criminals. The police is in coma, except for speeding tickets, our armies are abroad fighting ghosts and die for their masters interests and our criminals have a party in or out our jails.

So if our govenments forbit the possesion of cash then criminals will build their own money system. How to build a parallel payment system ? just use force, terror if you like, and use families or tribes where a promise is a promise or else and avoid technology.
