"Revolution, War, Taxes" - The Complete Paul Tudor Jones Speech

Tyler Durden's picture

Paul Tudor Jones ruffled more than a few feathers last week when he warned first that "we're in the middle of a disastrous market mania," and second he explained that "this gap between the 1 percent and the rest of America, and between the US and the rest of the world, cannot and will not persist," concluding that "historically, these kinds of gaps get closed in one of three ways: by revolution, higher taxes or wars. None are on my bucket list." His thesis is simple and profound as the following full speech shows...

Full Paul Tudor Jones Speech:

*  *  *

Ultimately, Tudor hopes, the free market will take hold and reward the companies that are the most just...

“Capitalism has driven just about every great innovation that has made our world a more prosperous, comfortable and inspiring place to live. But capitalism has to be based on justice and morality…and never more so than today with economic divisions large and growing.”

He's one of those "Warren-buffet-'capitalists'". He believes that Capitalism should be "tamed" and made "fair/just". The reality is that Capitalism is simply the freedom for two people to make a transaction without interferance by anyone, especially do-gooders like the State or like him and his "think-tank" social justice friends.

I agree with him about wealth inequality. This is a big problem not only in America but globally. This is why we need a series of comprehensive bills that specifically target wealth inequality and help bridge the gap between rich and poor. We can start by raising the minimum wage - the mimum wage is far too low in my opinion and even doubling or trippling it would be a conservative improvement in my opinion.

Tudor told you everything you need to know about why he's doing this at the beginning of his talk. He doesn't want to be one of the people accessorizing a lamp post when the SHTF.

How these idiots can stand up there and talk about wealth inequality without even once mentioning the pernicious role of government in the process makes about as much sense as talking about global warming without referring to the Sun.

I think the only way to resolve the world's problems is by starting a very strongly worded petition and seeing if we can get 100,000 "likes" so that the elected representatives are forced to discuss our grievances. Or maybe I'm overreacting? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjeNDKSTWIg

Yez...The Minimum Wage needz be a Gazillion per hourz.

Dat way the Guberment can raze the Tax Revenuez to pay off ze debt..

The only reason that Government supports rasing the Minimum Wage is to increase Tax Revenues as the unrefundable withholdings are taxed as a percentage.

Increasing Minimum Wage increases Tax Revenues. It is a stealth tax hike.

The same percentages of FICA taxes, FUTA taxes, and Medicare Taxes, are withheld fromUnionized Workers and are also not refunded.

A raise in the Minimum Wage equates to a Tax Revenue increase...across the board...from most wage earners.

That was also considered.

He sounds like one of those TV preachers looking to score some brownie points from the remaining 99%.

Other than that it's typically ZH: take some dramatic points ("war, revolution, taxes") and make some kind of 'told-you-so' article out of it. I'm surprised that nobody has yet spun this into  some "bullish for gold" theme.

Tudor's message is that the here much hated top 1% is supposed to be compasionate and share the loot, yet when it comes to things like minimum wage (i.e. reducing income equality and setting a minimum standard for corporate responsibility), everybody here on ZH thinks exactly like the 1%: what's mine is mine, FUCK EVERYBODY ELSE!

Oh the irony...

Tall Tom's picture

Only those who support the socialist state wants the state to have the ability to increase Tax Revenues by stealth. That is what an increase in Minimum Wage actually is.

Since a large portion of wage withholdings are not refundable, and since they are based upon a percentage of Employee earnings then the samepercentage which Minimum Wage is increased is the same percentage which the Wage withholdings are increased. Thus the Government receives an increase in revenue.  Thus it just amounts to a Stealth Tax Revenue Increase.

It serves the oligarchy's interests to oppress the poor working man under the disingenuous guise of "helping" him.

Increasing Minimum Wage increases tax revenues which allows the state to balance their budgets and offset deficits. This, in turn, allows greater encroachment upon civil liberties and growth of inefficient socialist programs from the State. This allows for the continuance of broken policy rather than the termination of ineffective and unproven programs.

We, here at Zerohedge, are aware of this tactic. I have made certain that I expose it to everybody that I know as well as publish here, as well as other forums.

If socialism was so damned good then why do you, and the rest of those who support it, resort to dishonesty, sleight of hand, and force in order to implement it? People would vountarily sign up for it if it were that good. But it is not and you know it.

You seem to have a very short fuse TallTommy. (perhaps you're not so 'tall' in other departments?)

I never said anything about socialism and I never said that I'm in favour of a minimum wage. As a matter of fact, it's ZEROHEDGE that is plugging this guy as if he's the next best thing since sliced bread, with his "just corporate responsibility."

Anyway, it seems a lot of naive souls fall for his crap. Notice the 'dramatic pause' after he announces that "...we've quadrupeled that since..." when talking about Tudor's % of profit contributed to charity. Hahaha, it's nothing more than an ego trip, spiced up with drama like "Revolution" and you TallTitTommy seem to swallow it hook, line and sinker.

Before you even consider raising the minimum wage, let's reduce the size of government, get rid of all the onerous rules and regulations, simplify the tax code, and then reduce taxes. That will significantly reduce the cost of doing business, which will reduce prices, increase demand, which will in turn increase employment. The increase in labor demand will increase wages. That would be a real wage increase, not some artificial government mandated one, based on economic fundamentals. A minimum wage increase would only result in higher prices to consumers and would effect those earning minimum wage the most.

Capitalism built on moral and ethical values cannot be beat; corrupt crony capitalism controlled by sociapaths will lead to socialism and then one of the three things he suggests.  Time to start applying the equally law to all concerned. Time to go back to Glass Stegal, time to make financial managers and companies have a fiduciary interest in their clients, time to make investment bankers have skin in every deal they do, and time to break up the TBTF banks.  Who gives a fuck if we don'tlead the world in banking when we can't take care of business at home. When funding foreign carry trades and selling suckers opaque derivatives is better economic policy than figuring out how to help Main Street become productive again, then we're fucked.  If Jamie and Lloydd want to play big time banker then send them to London where they can blow up the British economy (along with many others).  Let's get back to sound, safe and boring banking.  Investors shouldn't need taxpayers to backstop their bets.

Moral values aren't the answer to power; they are a technique for enforcing power. They've been used since the dawn of mankind by those in power to keep their subjects in line. First by fear, traditions, gods, etc, then later on by more noble and sophisticated feelings developed in man.

No ideal can be beat, just like no computer economic model can be beat: in theory. In reality, capitalism doesn't work any more than socialism does; both are flawed and would only work on the premise that part of reality ceases to exist -- the part that had to be chopped off to round off the theory.

RE

So why is anyone falling for this? Well, Paul Tudor Jones is also the founder of the Robin Hood Foundation, the Wall Street charity that raises money for New York City social services like preschool for children growing up in low-income homes. It certainly seems well intentioned—coming from a man who is worth $4.6 billion and all—and Jones regularly receives hosannas for his efforts from the sort of people who can afford to pay a minimum of $8,500 to sit in the audience at TED.

But as I noted on this bloglast year, the $60 million raised at last year’s Robin Hood gala event was a mere fraction of the estimated $532 million that a proposed tax on city residents earning more than $500,000 would have raised, a tax that was successfully opposed by the most of the people attending that very event.

That amount is also a mere fraction—a little more than 1 percent—of Paul Tudor Jones’s estimated wealth, which is, again, $4.6 billion. What’s going on here is distressingly banal and horribly familiar. Paul Tudor Jones wants to discuss the problem of inequality, so long as he can remain in control of the conversation, and in possession of his money.

It’s his $4.6 billion, not yours, and may you never forget that.

http://www.thebaffler.com/blog/focus-group-prosperity/

I think for his next investment, Tudor Jones should maybe invest in this thing called, "a mirror".

I only hope that one day, I will be paid as handsomely as him, to state the mere obvious.

I'mnot rich (in fact I'm broke) but i don't advocate higher taxes, I advocate a level playing field where those who want to compete have a fair chance to succeed.  Raising taxes is a short term solution to a bigger problem; the problem of a bad economy (and not enough people working and earning a decent living).  If you don't fix the economy you'll juts raise taxes again, and again, and again, until you can't raise them anymore...and then we're fucked.

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

In stark contrast to "miracle medals", God seeks those who worship without such adulterated images. There is no "Mary worship" ever mentioned in the bible, except for the pagan warship of "The queen of heaven."

"The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes to offer to the Queen of Heaven. They pour out drink offerings to other gods to arouse my anger." - Jeremiah 7:18

The women here were engaged in kneading dough and baking cakes of bread for the “Queen of Heaven”. This title referred to Ishtar, an Assyrian and Babylonian goddess also called Ashtoreth and Astarte by various other groups. She was thought to be the wife of the false god Baal, also known as Molech.

There have been predictions like this as long as the written word existed and many times they have come true.

He isn't saying anything many of us do not know.  Will he do anything to change it for the betterment of people like us?

Not likely.

Like Jesus said, if you are serious give it all away.  Something like that.  He also predicted how it would end and he had no love for scribes, pharisees and hypocrites, who seem to be in abundance and control nowadays.

There are just too many of us and not enough of us who would prefer to control our own destiny, but rather would give someone the key to our future.

Yes.  What almost nobody says is... how this problem has been dealt with in past history.  And how is that?

Just what you say.  The best of the best find a frontier [just beginning to open up], leave the corrupted portion of earth, and go operate where little or no control exists.

The HUGE PROBLEM today is... all easy frontiers are gone.  The entire land surface of earth is part of some bogus fictional "nation" controlled by human predators.

The remaining frontiers are difficult to operate upon (though the best of the best SHOULD), and those locations are oceans and polar caps.  However, while no "nation" controls antarctica, many nations do have agreements about antarctica.  So the oceans are best, though the various large nations would likely run roughshod on any substantially large development on the ocean before it became influential.  Better to buy some uninhabited island from some fictional nation and "take it sovereign".

But the real answer is outer space.  That's the one frontier that occupiers can make stick.  Why so?  Because the cost of trying to find and chase down individuals to collect "taxes" or "tributes" would be so vastly greater than anything they could collect... enforcement becomes impossible.  Plus, very easy to see them coming, take appropriate action (blow them up), and very easy to run and hide if necessary.

Unfortunately, while a few dozen people exist who would be willing to implement these kinds of solutions (new frontiers), what is required is a few thousand, at least.

You refer to "government efforts".  And I have thought so too.  But we are now getting to the point where private groups can create spacecraft capable of blasting into space, and leaving earth orbit and beyond.  Though not a perfect example, SpaceX is evidence.

But what is needed... perhaps in collaboration with SpaceX... is a more definite endeavor.  But to "do the work" and "fund the work" would require thousands of talented people (in most scenarios at least).

Personally I'm working on a non-space technology that can achieve the same results, only cheaper and better (and possibly sooner), and with far fewer people involved (only dozens).

But the point is, honest, ethical, productive, benevolent sentient beings NEED a frontier, because the vast majority of clueless morons sanction, support, defend and finance human predators who make life suck (and make advancement grossly inefficient and usually counterproductive).

But on top of that, the good capitalist that Tudor Jones is, he's set up a not for profit organisation to collate and monitor regular people's views on how much they feel raped by The Corporations, bless, and he's going to compile an easy to digest chart to remind us who fucks us in the ass the most.

But can I point out that this bullshit is just an obvious ploy to appease us whilst they drag this Ponzi out for a few more years, we'll be wise to 'enjoy' a further period of said arse banditry until the data comes through to show how big a hole each of us has been ripped.

Thank you Paul. Your philanthropy is inspiring.

And I don't even hate you!

I'm saving that for Dimon, Bernanke, Blankfein and a whole raft of muthafuckers that are well up the pecking order before you.

But I do appreciate your attempt to wash your hands of this woeful mess.

@
“Capitalism has driven just about every great innovation that has made our world a more prosperous, comfortable and inspiring place to live. But..."
the same could be said for slavery; the dark creative force
of the master capitalists closet (them that didn't fare well in the hierarchy,
social or financial)
the truth is that individual"ism" and nutrition (ism)is the
the source of everything new and innovative. i assume
we all appreciate what an individual mind is or represents.
the question then becomes what is this "nutrition" input
and from where does it come? capitalism? or some other
ism? ism ..sim ,a.siiisnsmm nsm ism.
slavery(ism)?
capitalism is just a virtual, become legal, transcription of
codified distribution of benefits from the coordination of
individual insight and innovation manifest as mass production
via slavery, forced conformity by law.
no? not the pretty way to say it, granted.

re-think private property-- as in your life, liberty and pursuit of happiness -- private property is a principle upon which capitalism as well as emancipation rests--Slavery is a right of kings --way way different-

@.." private property is a principle upon which capitalism
as well as emancipation rests."...
emancipation , the term has been associated with
human beings being freed from their bondage, as property,
of other men. or being forgiven their "debts" to other
men. these emancipated people then go out to own
other property, people and debts of other men?
that is not progress, not that you said it is but
the concept of "property" and ownership needs to
be refined some imho.
i have to go ....

Thanks for the sound advice Paul mate, I did see this video the first time it was posted mind, so I wont blow a gasket.

I like the sound of your 'Robin Hood Outfit', very noble Paul, very nice, giving a little back, eh?

No chance sunshine, not a fucking hope.  Heres how people like me solve the perpetual problem of people like you, getting angry is the first response and we all hit this point, the battle is focusing your dog given mind and showing these clever fuckers the finger, takes some doing mind, but if inthemix did it, anyone can.

You do only one thing my ZH friends, withdraw the only thing that has ever mattered in your lied to life, withdraw your consent.  I did, from 2008 on, after learning just how fucked we are, and just how corrupt the system is.  I am in all honesty a zero percent liability, that will not comply, I did not, could not, will not and mother fucking cannot condone what these child molesting cunts do in our collective names.  I cannot comply with something that goes beyond mere 'Law' or otherwise.

There is no, and cannot be a political solution to our numerous problems, there never was, they made it this way the 'Clever Fucking Cunts' what they are.  800 years ago this year you were collectively given 'Common Law'.  Use it.

Withdraw your consent, its all it takes.  When enough walk away the game comes to a close my friends.

And to you Paul, go fuck yourself, its not a revolution coming son, far from it.  Its a 'Reckoning', and you had better watch the mother fucking cunt owt mate.

Its going to be fucking brutal.

Bank the fuck on that mate

;-)

Withdraw your consent and withdraw as much financial support from it as you can bear. It may be painful now. But I will guarantee that it will be much more painful later.

The longer that you delay that inevitability, the worse off  your ultimate pain will be.

For most it will be a shock, perhaps even a fatal shock at that. Withdrawal is a bitch.

Your ADDICTION to the current paradigm is maladaptive behavior.

You must follow the steps to free yourself from your addiction.

I have previously wrote about this. This seems as a good opportunity to revisit the concept.

Your level of compliance, obedience, and complicity is up to you. So is your level of non compliance, disobedience and forthrightness.

But it will end and if you are addicted and locked within the snares of the current paradigm then destruction is your destiny. It is the OUTCOME as the current paradigm has become a predicament with no solutions. The choice belongs to you.

it does not matter what failed psychopathy
the exploitative wolves demand, there will always
be individuals that solve the problem.
that is the sad thing, the saving grace
and the beautiful part; the shame of it.
if it were to fail on its own we could see
more clearly and make some correction?
the bucket has a hole in it, the boat
has a hole in it. the bail outs and the
bail ins just distract from the recognition
of the necessity to fix the hole.

To "convince" others to "be more just" is completely absurd.  Why?  Because the human predators who are causing the injustice and problems LOVE to be predatory, LOVE injustice, LOVE to control the system.  The ones who need to change their behavior are precisely the ones who are predators, and they will never change.

I had to cringe at the naivety of this presentation.  One step that is absolutely necessary is to completely UNDO the intentionally predatory decisions by the supreme court that "companies are people and have all the rights of humans", including unlimited political contributions and political support and lobbying.  Any system in which corporations can jigger the political system will forever become more and more unjust and ruthless.  PERIOD.

Truth be told, what needs to happen is the end of fictional entities (corporations, governments, etc).

Gads, I really can't believe this idea.  The way to solve the problems of criminals and predators is... to persuade them not to be criminals and predators.  Oh yeah, that works.  NOT.  NEVER.

I'm not voting for Mr. Haney for president or Ted Cruz or anyone studied in Greek, Latin, French and the Arts that has graduated from Harvard, lives on the East Side of Manhattan and talks with a southern hick accent. That's one of the oldest cons in the American history books. Arrest him and redistribute his stolen wealth. Johnny Cash he's not.

Sitting on 4.6 Bills and this guy wants to chart corporate morality? I'd like to participate in his little survey but I can't afford to take any time off from WORKING...and I sure as fuck don't want the boss to find out what my political leanings are...then I would be screwed.. Hows about avoiding the survey costs..give that money to the kiddies.

I vote Halliburton inc. to be queen of the despised..it's really funny when you think about it, I mean, can you see Cheney handing over a check so some inner city gangsta kids can learn to read and eat a balanced diet?..ridiculous right? but now imagine he's writing a check for calling in a drone strike..yeah, I can see him doing that..
