Obama's prime failing in US/Israeli relations stems from the US political class only being able to think in terms of domestic US partisan electoral politics. Obama has let some US-based AIPAC fanatics scare the shit out of him, like every other US politician. They're paper tigers. They can rally Fox News and some campaign contribution dollars; probably whip up the New York papers, and that's about it. Boehner was tempted to let Netanyahu bitch-slap the US for his personal benefit in the Israeli elections for the same reasons.
And Obama is letting the insults heap up. He should have called in the (US-born) Israeli Ambassador to the US and laid down the law. Then when Netanyahu followed through, Obama should have suspended all US aid to Israel until the election, on the grounds that with Netanyahu's appearance at the Capitol, any US aid would be seen globally as improper meddling in Israel's sovereign internal affairs.
America's alliance with Israel solves no US problems and creates myriad. With our Sunni proxy armies, we don't need Israel at all and should cut them off entirely. The notion that Obama is undermining Netanyahu is laughable.
