First Images Of Germanwings Crash Debris Emerge; White House Says "No Indication Of Terrorism"

Tyler Durden's picture

While the White House, seemingly an expert in determining airplane crashes causes within hours if not minutes of the accident (see flight MH-17)  has already opined on the tragic crash of the Lufthansa Germanwings airplane:

  • WHITE HOUSE: NO INDICATION OF TERRORISM IN AIRPLANE CRASH

This will hardly be comfort to the families of the 148 people who lost their lives the crash which took place in the south Franch alps, and where the first images of the debris have just been released, via Airlive.net

Further evidence that the airplane crash was not a midair disintegration is that while the vertical airspeed was susbtantial, it wasn't freefall, and it took the airplane about 10 minutes to drop from a height of 11.5 to its final resting place some 2 kilometers high in the alps (via Zeit).

And here are all the latest crash developments from AP:

A local lawmaker says the debris from the plane crash in the French Alps that killed all 150 people on board is spread over 100-200 meters (110-220 yards).

Gilbert Sauvan, president of the general council of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, told the AP that "everything is pulverized."

He said the largest pieces of debris are the size of a small car.

Sauvan said no one can access the site from the ground, but that helicopters are circling the area to get information and 500 firefighters and gendarmes are in the area.

The boss of airline Germanwings says the plane went into a long descent before it crashed into the French Alps, likely killing all 150 people on board.

Germanwings CEO Thomas Winkelmann said the plane began descending again shortly after it reached its cruising height following takeoff from Barcelona Airport. The descent lasted eight minutes, he told reporters in Cologne. Radar and air traffic control contact broke off at 10:53 a.m.

He said the pilot had more than 10 years' experience working for Germanwings and its parent airline Lufthansa. Airbus said the A320 was delivered to Lufthansa in 1991.

Germanwings said the passenger manifest included two babies. Officials believe there were 67 German nationals on board.

CNN says there was no distress call.  Perhaps the cause will turn out to be mundane -- autopilot stopped for some reason and human pilot didn't know how to fly the plane.

When planes crash from high altitude, surprising how often it turns out that it just stalled and descended helplessly.  In the age of super-automation, even experienced pilots often don't know how to correct a stall if the computer switches off.

Fucking Airbus'es - different computer logic than Boeing. Old US Pilot saying, "If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going", because Boeing basic computer logic always puts the pilot ahead of the computer - not (French)Airbus.

And I'm taking a fucking Airbus to Switzerland in May - as a pilot, I know better...

This crash is too similar to Flight 447::

At 02:11:40 UTC, the captain re-entered the cockpit. The angle of attack had then reached 40 degrees, and the aircraft had descended to 35,000 feet with the engines running at almost 100% N1 (the rotational speed of the front intake fan, which delivers most of a turbofan engine's thrust). The stall warnings stopped, as all airspeed indications were now considered invalid by the aircraft's computer due to the high angle of attack.[27] In other words, the aircraft was oriented nose-up but descending steeply. Roughly 20 seconds later, at 02:12 UTC, the pilot decreased the aircraft's pitch slightly, airspeed indications became valid and the stall warning sounded again and sounded intermittently for the remaining duration of the flight, but stopped when the pilot increased the aircraft's nose-up pitch. From there until the end of the flight, the angle of attack never dropped below 35 degrees. From the time the aircraft stalled until its impact with the ocean, the engines were primarily developing either 100 percent N1 or TOGA thrust, though they were briefly spooled down to about 50 percent N1 on two occasions. The engines always responded to commands and were developing in excess of 100 percent N1 when the flight ended.

The flight data recordings stopped at 02:14:28 UTC, or three hours 45 minutes after takeoff. At that point, the aircraft's ground speed was 107 knots, and it was descending at 10,912 feet per minute (108 knots of vertical speed). Its pitch was 16.2 degrees (nose up), with a roll angle of 5.3 degrees left. During its descent, the aircraft had turned more than 180 degrees to the right to a compass heading of 270 degrees. The aircraft remained stalled during its entire 3 minute 30 second descent from 38,000 feet[28] before it hit the ocean surface at a speed of 152 knots (280 km/h), comprising vertical and horizontal components of 108 and 107 knots respectively. The aircraft broke up on impact; everyone on board died, presumably instantaneously.[29]

=====

When the command pilot re-entered the cockpit, and saw the (relatively inexperienced co-pilot) had the stick full back, he said ("No, No, stick forward) according to the voice recorder. He recognized a full stall, being held in by the young guy that had very little real stick and rudder time. Flight 447 just ran out of altitude and luck before what may have been a full stall induced by bad instrument readings could be broken to get the plane flying again.

Fucking Airbus...

No need for a public statement, since their services are working together closely anyway. This would be done in secrecy. "Do you have anything?" "No, we have no indications. Nothing."

But how would YOU tell the German government, to make sure they understand the message? It could be exactly that way.

The motive? Well Friedman from Stratfor a month or so ago openly said, that for more than 200 years US politics was to avoid German technology and efficiency and Russian resources coming together and forming an unbeatable combination.

Who knows, maybe Merkel needed a slight reminder what the "appropriate" approach torwards Russia via Ukraine is?

Not sure about that being US policy, but it certainly was British policy. The Mackinder Doctrine goes a long way towards explaining some of the most important events of the c20th. A Japanese-Russian war financed in Japan's favour by London and New York; a failed Russian revolution of 1905 and a successful revolution of 1917; two world wars; 70 years of socialism imposed on Russia by the City of London and Wall Street; all of this helped keep the turn-of-the-century economically resurgent Russia and Germany down. And that's the way it has remained since. As soon as they see the slimmest prospect of what Mackinder called the "World Island" advancing, they make sure to sabotage it at the first opportunity.

You can also safely assume the euro was designed from the outset to cripple Germany and keep Europe split down the middle; Helmut Kohl didn't want it but was warned by Thatcher and Mitterand German unification would not go ahead otherwise.

The way I see things is as follows: the Anglo-American Empire is nearing its end, and that is a very dangerous moment for the rest of us. They are prepared to set the rest of the world ablaze to prevent their own downfall under their own colossal debt mountain, which far surpasses Europe's. Webster Tarpley had a very perceptive article some time ago about how Anglo-America set about collapsing the euro to make sure the dollar and sterling survived.

http://tinyurl.com/5vrab7c

People should read that article closely; it explains all they need to know about the manufactured crisis in Europe.

Germany and Russia need to keep their nerve and not fall for the provocations. If they do that they will have a front-row seat to watch the collapse of Anglo-America in the near future. If they make a miscalculation by reacting just the way Anglo-America wants them to react it would almost certainly mean another world war.

Sorry for going off-topic. Just one last thought: a very important case concerning US tech companies in Europe went before the European Court today. The US stands to lose its Safe Harbour rights to data if Europe stands up for its citizens. In other words, there would be a huge hole in US intelligence gathering if the case went against them.

http://www.europe-v-facebook.org/EN/en.html

Nobody has mentioned the downing of that flight as a possible warning shot across the bows to ensure the European court arrives at the "correct" decision. Perhaps too conspiratorial? Who knows? I thought it was worth throwing out anyway. It's obvious these people are insane enough to do anything now. Not because the average American and Englishman is insane, but because their governments have been hijacked by the parasites. You all know who I'm talking about.

You're welcome Againstthelie. I always find Mackinder-based geopolitics interesting. With Kissinger's and Brezinski's ideas still dictating US policy Mackinder is just as relevant today as it was a century ago. Here in Europe we are very much paying the price for it. Even in Ireland, which is militarily neutral, but still economically a basket-case, no matter what they tell you on the news about an Irish recovery. As far as I am concerned the attack on the euro was a two-pronged Anglo-American assault on Europe's soft underbelly to shore up their own currencies, and I for one am still paying the price to this day with my small business utterly ruined.

That's what it looks like. Speed stays at around 400 knots during the descent into the mountainside. The other interesting thing is there was a safety directive for that family of Airbus models including this plane. In a previous incident, the plane started descending at a rate of 4,000 fpm with no input from the pilot until the pilot regained control and pulled out of the dive at 28,000 feet.

And those Bombers currently remain the mainstay of the USA's Strategic Bombing Air Force. and are planned for decommisioning in the 2040s.

"..a long descent"

From the AP-

"The plane left Barcelona at 9:55 a.m. Germanwings official Thomas Winkelmann said it began descending again shortly after it reached its cruising height of 38,000 feet following takeoff from Barcelona Airport. The descent lasted eight minutes, he told reporters in Cologne. Radar and air traffic control contact with the plane broke off at 10:53 a.m. at an altitude of about 6,000 feet."

It dropped 32,000 feet in 8 minutes. 4000 FPM, 66.666666666 ! feet per second, downwards with no distress call.

This is not something the pilots wouldn't notice, unless they were unconscious.

You'd think they would send a mayday.

That seems like a high altitude and fast speed for a commercial jet.  I'm not a pilot so I don't know but it seems faster than the typical 300 mph and 30,000 ft. that US jets fly over the continental US.

Tue, 03/24/2015 - 11:54 | 5921833 Tall Tom
Tall Tom's picture

Typical speeds for commercial jets over USA are roughly over 500 miles per hour at 30,000 feet.

(I have flown the 360 miles from Phoenix to San Diego, and San Diego to Phoenix, many, many times...It takes less than an hour.)

Tue, 03/24/2015 - 12:09 | 5921883 StarfishPrime

Indicated airspeed will not reach the 500+ mph/knots you see above, because the air thins as you gain altitude (less air molecules pushing against the pitot tube = less apparent air speed). The ground speed, however, will be an apparent 500+ mph. This, along with some turbine efficiencies, is why jets fly so high.

Thank you.  I have learned something.

Tue, 03/24/2015 - 12:44 | 5921994 Tall Tom
Tall Tom's picture

Well...

And considering that LEADING CROSS SECTION OF THE JET which is pushing all of that air in front of it...Well that puts up some substantial resistance unless the jet is at altitude.

The pitot tube has not much to do with limiting air speed but only measures it. Air resistance and consequential friction is the limiting factor. You know? DRAG? A major FORCE operating on that airframe?

Who cares about the pitot tube unless you are piloting the damned contraption. Then knowing your airspeed is generally a good idea...unless you want to stall...or crash.

(Did you read about the crash that happened because a damned spider weaved its web inside of the pitot tube because it was left without its protective cover on the ground?)
