From Monday's open (post Quad Witching), things are not pretty...
As Biotechs bounce did not last...
Leaving the S&P unable to close green YTD...
And the world's largest stock index in the red post-QE3...
Bonds were monkey-hammered as the dollar strengthened. 30Y yields soared 13bps off today's lows... and 30Y back to unch from the FOMC.
As Bonds and Stocks recouple post-FOMC...
Swissy was unceremoniously dumped in a wonderfully linear manner...
As The Dollar V-Shape Recovered off early losses...
Gold, copper, and silver clung to gains on the day despite the resurging dollar and oil prices hald overnight Yemen gains...
Crude close up...
And USO (the Oil ETF) was all over the place with some seriously broken markets...

1)The US economy is firing on no cylinders: all categories of durable goods orders show substantial declines
2) The optimistic thesis that cheap oil will spur US growth through consumer spending no longer is defensible
3) Oil prices are tracking the trade-weighted dollar .
When oil prices crashed late last year we argued that the net effect would be mildly negative for the US economy – terrible for capex, marginally positive for consumers. We’ve seen the beginning of a collapse in capex, but not the benefit to consumers. All categories of durable goods orders fell in February against consensus expectations, while January’s numbers were revised down substantially.
Coming off three months of declining retail sales (or flat sales ex-gasoline), the durable goods numbers put another nail in the coffin of the Federal Reserve’s recovery bubble. We’ve compared the recovery forecast to the New Guinea Cargo Cults that flourished at the end of World War II: Neolithic peoples thought that building mock airfields with straw would persuade the gods to send “cargo” back after the Americans had departed. Going through the Keynesian motions of quantitative easing has been about as effective.
