Obama Administration Bullies Allies Over Iran Nuke Deal Dissent

Tyler Durden's picture

President Obama is "blowing up our alliances to secure a deal that paves Iran’s way to a bomb," according to European sources close to the negotiations, and as Washington Free Beacon reports, efforts by the Obama administration to stem criticism of its diplomacy with Iran have included threats to nations involved in the talks, including U.S. allies. France has borne the brunt of Obama's wrath as one source in Europe close to the ongoing diplomacy said the US has begun to adopt a “harsh” stance toward its allies in Paris because "the clarifications expose just how weak the Americans’ deal is shaping up to be."

As The Washington Free Beacon reports,

A series of conversations between top American and French officials, including between President Obama and French President Francois Hollande, have seen Americans engage in behavior described as bullying by sources who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon.

The disagreement over France’s cautious position in regard to Iran threatens to erode U.S. relations with Paris, sources said.

Tension between Washington and Paris comes amid frustration by other U.S. allies, such as Saudi Arabia and Israel. The White House responded to this criticism by engaging in public campaigns analysts worry will endanger American interests.

Western policy analysts who spoke to the Free Beacon, including some with close ties to the French political establishment, were dismayed over what they saw as the White House’s willingness to sacrifice its relationship with Paris as talks with Iran reach their final stages.

A recent phone call between Obama and Hollande was reported as tense as the leaders disagreed over the White House’s accommodation of Iranian red lines.

...

“The French want a deal, but they see no rush and repeat that Iranians need a deal more than we do, and that we shouldn’t fix artificial deadlines that put more pressure on us than Iran.”

One source in Europe close to the ongoing diplomacy said the United States has begun to adopt a “harsh” stance toward its allies in Paris.

“There have been very harsh expressions of displeasure by the Americans toward French officials for raising substantive concerns about key elements of what the White House and State Department negotiators are willing to concede to Iran,” said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “That is because the clarifications expose just how weak the Americans’ deal is shaping up to be.”

Another Western source familiar with the talks said the White House is sacrificing longstanding alliances to cement a contentious deal with Iran before Obama’s term in office ends.

“The President could be hammering out the best deal in the history of diplomacy, and it still wouldn’t be worth sacrificing our alliances with France, Israel, and Saudi Arabia—key partners in Europe, the eastern Mediterranean, and the Gulf,” the source said. “But he’s blowing up our alliances to secure a deal that paves Iran’s way to a bomb.”

A State Department spokesperson declined to comment on the issue.

How to make friends and influence people... perhaps this is yet another glimpse into why so many "allies" are sidling up to China's new non-hegemonic Yuan liberalization push...

Israel and the neocons have made their position clear.  See, for example:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/war-with-iran-is-probably-our-bes...

They want war with Iran, which of course the US will fight and pay for.  Someone at ZH apparently wants this also.

I wonder if the republican budget proposal, which promises to balance the budget in ten years, includes the expense of war with Iran.

Ha ha snort just joking.

Supposing he made the decision on his own, outting the Israeli nuke program was pretty big.  My bias says he is a puppet but cannot explain recent moves that seem so anti-Israel.  Certainly this looks like flexibility in action - ending the standoff with Iran and exposing their enemy has to be good news to Russia.  Obama didn't put significant boots on the ground in Iraq/Syria.  Iran did.  So this suggests that there is some sort of preset cooperation between Obama and Putin and just wth does it all mean?  Is Obama making a play for the ring against the real PTB while Putin keeps the circus bears dancing and entertaining the NATO crowd in Europe?  Wouldn't that be ironic?

I'm fairly puzzled about it all except for one point.  T'ain't none of them looking out for us, but I still would like to know just how they plan to screw us.

The important thing is to always remember to discard those things that either do not fit within or support one's specific viewpoints. Kind of like the way the mainstream news, the administration and the climate change promoters do it. Simply repeat after me...."if the facts do not fit my agenda, they will not only be ignored and discarded but the promoter of said materials will be publicly disparaged and demeaned, because it is important that these people are not allowed to speak, or at least be taken seriously".

Power is the ability to decide what is truth....for everyone else.

Another drivel article.

More duplicitous than deluded. Look at the construction of the article, aiming at effects.

Reminds that this Free Washington Beacon published last month those 'exclusive' photos provided by senator Jim Inhoof of Russian tanks invading the mountainous flatlands of Ukraine taken in Georgia in 2008.

Might make a mediocre work of fiction if written by a grade 9 US citizen, but as a news it is mere hogwashings. It names never a single source for its cheap propaganda quotes.

according to European sources

sources who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon

sources said

Western  policy analysts who spoke to the Free Beacon

One source in Europe

said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Another Western source

the source said.

Might as well claim that they interviewed the mouldering corpse of Ronald Reagan. That would be at least naming a name.

Perhaps some real news would be evidence of an Iranian atom bomb program. It would scoop everyone, including the Mossad and all US intelligence agencies, since they all admit that there is no evidence of such a program.

Just another baseless article devoid of reality.

Wonder what the weekly "everyone be hysterically afraid of Iran" cartoon will be this weekend. More credibility from Foghorn Leghorn or Bugs Bunny or something.

I don't necessarily want a war with Iran, it would be much easier to turn the area into a series of parking lots & glass depositories in my opinion.

What Obama's doing is giving them all they want and diminishing the credibility of the United States. This in turn is diminishing the credibility of the United States ability to project power, which in turn diminishes the full faith and credit of the ability of the United States to back up the Dollar. When Iran gets the nuke, assuming they haven't already, it's not going to be pretty.

Has any war ever been won by attacking only military targets. When the Nazis were sending rockets into Britain, were those military targets. When Saddam was firing scuds into Israel, were those military targets? When we fire bombed Dresden, was that a military target?

Wars are won not just by defeating a military but defeating its population's willingness and ability to support it. Demoralization is what wins wars. What won Nam for the communists? Demoralization of American people, not defeat of our military. Look at the wars we are now and have recently been involved. Our defeats have come not from our military but from the dissolution of resolve of the American citizens....citizens just like many here who openly hope for our defeat, our demoralization.

I understand the antiwar sentiment as I got my draft lottery in 71. Many here may not want war, as I do not, but it is stupid to think that any reasonable cause will be advanced by our defeat. It is ignorance that is dangerous and I can't help but believe is deliberate in its efforts to do exactly that...demoralize America and perpetuate it's defeat. Its bad enough to have to endure idiotic leadership that instigates and perpetuates unnecessary wars, but to have traitors in our midst, and there ARE traitors in our midst as there has always been, deliberately attempting to demoralize and eventually lead America to it's knees,is too much. Its bad enough that we are in this shit up to our necks, but to have Americans supporting those who would happily see us dead is worse than anything that Obama or any other politician could do to us.

Perhaps you are aware that the British just admitted that the bombing of civilian targets early in the war was started by the British Nazis. Churchill was losing the war so that he began murdering German civilians to get Hitler to start killing British civilians  and lay off the military targets. All the multi-decade propaganda about the evil Germans being the sole bad guys was and is a lie. The bottom line is that the British/American empire was and is no less a gang of evil scum than their German Nazi brethren. You need to clear your head and realize that the "nazis" occupied and still occupy and Washington and London and stop perpetuating the lying crap coming from the current Nazi scum.

Hi Carl, could you please tell us what you mean by "I still find it ironic that the only country in history to use one (against a defenseless civilian population in two cities with no military value whatsoever)"?  You may want to brush up on your history of the second world war.  The reasons for the use fo the first two atomic bombs was to stop Imperial Japan.  You may say that at the end of the second world war Japan did not have the capacity to wage war, well take a look at the battle of Okinawa.  The bulk of our naval losses where due to the Kamikaze, the fighter aircraft that were driven directly into our vessels.  That is the kind of adversary that was Imperial Japan in the Second World War.  It is also a fact that after the Second World War, some Japanese soldiers did not obey their orders to return home and hid in the areas where they were located, continuing the war that was over.

ZerOhead's picture

And you might want to brush up on what you think is history...

(Hey... I thought the same way as you did until a couple years ago when I began to question everything so don't worry about looking like an idiot since you are in good company...)

"It is my opinion that the use of this barbarous weapon at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. The Japanese were almost defeated and ready to surrender...in being the first to use it, we...adopted an ethical standard common to the barbarians of the Dark Ages."

---Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy,
Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during World War II

  • January 1945 - MacArthur forwarded to the President a Japanese offer to surrender to which was exactly what we accepted 7 months later. Had it been accepted when first offered, there would have been no heavy loss of life on Iwo Jima (over 26,033 Americans killed or wounded, approximately 21,000 Japanese killed) and Okinawa (over 39,000 U.S. dead and wounded, 109,000 Japanese dead), no fire bombing of Japanese cities by B-29 bombers (it is estimated that the dropping of 1,700 tons of incendiary explosives on Japanese cities during March 9th-10th alone killed over 80,000 civilians and destroyed 260,000 buildings), and no use of the atomic bomb (200,000 killed).
  • 5 April 1945 - Japan appointed Prime Minister Suzuki Kantaro who was known to be a peace advocate.
  • 8 May 1945 - Japan tried to surrender through the Soviet Union.
  • June 1945 - Both the US Army and Navy recommended to Truman that he clarify the US demands in regard to the Emperor. It was recognized that he was absolutely essential so he could order his men to lay down their arms. Without him, there would have been anarchy in Japan.

The list of attempts goes on...

And did the Japanese Generals support this peace accord? From what I read not so much, even to the extent of trying to isolate and silence the emperor.

The important thing is that we each gather those facts about us that best supports our point of view and refutes those we oppose.

History has lots of "facts" and can be assembled to represent a lot of different stories. History is fluid and as we see today, is constantly open to revision, and with each year further from the fact we feel more secure in the knowledge of what "exactly" happened, with fewer and fewer alive to contest these revisions who were present at the event.

We want to believe that there was no excuse for nuking the Japanese while working overtime coming up with justifications as to why a radical Muslim would blow up a school bus or want a nuclear bomb of their own. Progressives have been very successful in indoctrinating white America with guilt for virtually everything we have achieved...to the point of surrender.

Obama is negotiating that surrender by continually putting American in the position to do stupid things that blow up in our face and for which he will successfully apologize until such time that ANY remaining credibility is gone, gone gone.

He is Magwah in Last of the Mohicans. Acting as a stalwart of the Crown, while working behind the scenes to bring them all down, with a hate filled heart. He hates the white man,, but will not hesitate to use them to advance his goals.

The victors always write history and usually in their favor at that. Sometimes the vanquished do as well including the Japanese and their inability to accept responsibilty for their atrocities in Korea and China later Indonesia etc..

Once a war starts it's kinda like a bar-room brawl to the death and to not win is NOT an option. If the NeoCons are intent on starting yet another war with a nuclear armed Russia I can only hope that they have the intelligence to go in with a massive and untelegraphed first strike. Anything less and there is a much greater than a non-zero chance that I am dead. So like all the "little people" on this planet I really don't don't want to see any wars at all but every now and then some do need to be fought.

Iran and Russia are NOT one of those wars. Nor was Iraq, Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Yugoslavia, Libya, Syria etc. etc. etc. etc. The enemy now as foreseen by the founding fathers is WITHIN.

And my guess is that you believe the official version of 9/11.

P.S. The Indians were engaged in brutal wars for territory amongst themselves long before the white man came to the Americas...

war is hell. 2 wrongs don't make a right. the japanese never paid the chinese back for the rape of nanking and more.

and guess what. the u.s. nuked japan to help prevent world war from continuing with russia---AND IT WORKED-----

IF YOU HAVE DONE YOUR HOMEWORK ABOUT THE POST WAR PERIOD FROM 45-50 , IT IS MORE THAN CLEAR THAT LOCAL WARS OF CONSOLIDATION WERE OCCURING EVERYWHERE , GREECE, KOREA, CHINA, AFRICA, PALESTINE.

JUST ABOUT EVERY LOCALITY CONTINUED TO HAVE WAR ---'AFTER' THE END OF WW2. so the americans started harboring nazi's and stalin started building the iron curtain. guess what ----ww2 may not have ever truly ended, but the usage of nukes on hiroshima and nagasaki helped prevent russia and the u.s. from continuing with full scale war. and THIS WAS EVERYTHING.

worse, had the u.s. NOT NUKED JAPAN------THE NUKES COULD VERY LIKELY HAVE BEEN USED FAR MORE THAN 2X AND IN A MUCH MORE RUTHLESS FASHION ON THE RUSSIANS, AND EVEN EASTERN EUROPE.

IF THE U.S. HAD NOT NUKED JAPAN----------IT'S MORE LIKELY THAN NOT SOMEONE WOULD HAVE NUKED SOMEONE AND IN FAR MORE DEVASTATING FASHION BY NOW. AND THEY STILL MIGHT!!!!

The japanese got off pretty lightly for what they did to the chinese. yes, even the nuke of hiroshima and nagaski was FAR LESS EVIL than the scale of conventional murder and pillage the japs inflicted on china. hard to believe , but do your research. the americans were NICE to the japanese as crazy as that sounds.

The German plane that just crashed in France gives me a strange feeling. Some planes crash and it takes for ever to find out what happened, and some just disappear completely. In some plane crashes a ton of "information" is revealed almost overnight.

It just goes to show how easy it would be for some govt to cause something like that to happen, then just cover it up and/or blame it on someone else.

Never believe anything that comes from the media. Safer still, don't believe anything at all.

They (MSM) were extremely fast to pin the blame on the copilot. Remember how they blamed the pilot for the MH-370 disappearance, too? Also, they were blaming Russia for MH-17 while it was still smoking. 2 777's in one year, under mysterious circumstances while no 777's ever crashing before. So, that makes me wonder if this one was, also, an electronic takedown. This Airbus 320 was 24 years old, so I'm not sure about it's design. I know the newer ones are mostly electronic and very susceptible.

Official story main inconsistencies so far:
- 8 min between captain leaving cockpit (descent initiated) and crash, yet jets have time to scramble (and story tentatively censored)
- French prosecutor repeatedly complains of delays before receiving blackbox recordings from BEA
- Copilot seemingly happy about his job, pals at flightclub disbelieve official account
- Contradiction between prosecutor's manual door lock account (not there being any) and later media reports that say the copilot was even "heard" on the recording manually locking the door
- Stela ready in 3 languages and erected 24 hours later at crash site
- Story of other black box found but memory chip missing, "ejected" during crash
- A320 had "minor maintenance" on day before crash according to prosecutor (not an inconsistency per say but worth mentioning)
- Wtf FBI assistance request

Plausible hypothesis: A320 remote controlled (i.e. programmed) into the ground using the anti-hijack system, EW jets scramble plane's communications with ground, blackbox voice recordings edited by BEA/whoever else (fits with the "transition" described by prosecutor from normal conversation to suddenly copilot laconic, monosyllabic), i.e. pilots were both conscious and desperately trying to mayday as their unresponsive plane dove against the mountain.

Destroying electronic systems is fairly easy. DC knows this. That's why they've(MSM) produced so many stories about the inevitable solar flare(probably enemies?) knocking them out.

Some of this smells like phony propaganda, but it would also help explain why the US is mad at France, who could give them access to magrav, if it exists.

http://www.eutimes.net/2015/03/terrified-us-aircraft-carrier-flees-from-...

'In fact, NSF experts in this report state, it was only a few weeks ago that the USS Theodore Roosevelt was “sunk” by a French submarine using “magrav technology” off the coast of Florida during a war game wherein the Americans were testing their countermeasures against this revolutionary new weapon prior to their ships deployment to confront Northern Fleet forces.'

OTOH, how could they go ashore, drink, and not tell the story to the locals?

It does make sense that Iran should be somewhat relaxed in the face of threats if t feels it can deal with the worst case - or if it feels that no matter what, time is on its side.

To the Country Club, to get his instructions.

Not, you can be sure, the one where you pay a day fee to play.  The one where you generally have to join to walk through the door, must put up the cost of a small house to join, and even then only with two or three established members vouching for you.

It is either Obama's paymasters at the Country Clubs who would pushing a deal that goes against Saudi Arabia and Israel, or his Deep State handlers. Or both, since they have a much tighter connection than commonly supposed, as my reading of Family of Secrets by Russ Baker is revealing.

I for one don't believe for a minute that our rulers would align with Iran against Saudi Arabia or even against Israel.  I wouldn't put some kind of geopolitical judo past them however, baiting some kind of tangled trap.  Nor do I believe this is about Obama's legacy.  I don't see any sign that he has enough power or independence on the world stage to be able to concern himself with that.

It is sort of like trying to ban guns or hand guns. You can use an automobile to kill, or a bat, a knife, the natural gas connection in a home, a bath tub, poison, carbon monoxide, helium, prescription drugs, illegal drugs, a sharp piece of glass.

Who is the Patriarch that says we can invade a failed state, a rogue state, or a developer of WMD? Who Bank rolls him, and who bleeds for him? = US Middle Class.

It would require some understanding of the concept of non proliferation. The middle east has always had plenty of tensions floating about and the desire was to avoid a nuclear arms race. It may be racist or just insulting but given those countries propensities to war, it has always been feared that if nuclear weapons became widespread that their use would be inevitable. It may be fun to think that simply allowing them to blow themselves up, or better still, blow us up because we deserve it in so many eyes, would be no big deal, but that is as childish as assuming we can have infinite debt with no ill effects. People are wretching daily of Fukushima radiation (rightly so), so just imagine the radiation clouds floating overhead after a middle east exchange.

We are willing to collapse the world economy for the sake of climate change and yet behave like nuclear war is equivalent to a polar vortex.

I'm inclined to think these people fools or simply deliberately instigating our demise.

Oh yeah France, Saudi Arabia, Israel are great friends. S/

And Iran is so dreadfully short of energy resources that nuclear power was their only option.

Of course they have an incredible oil reserve and could have spent a quarter of the money and zero of the international intrigue building refineries to satisfy their needs as well as become incredibly rich selling refined products to Europe.

So why is it so damned important to have nuclear power that they are willing to isolate and punish themselves and risk war? Nuclear power is peaceful? How that working out?

Website Freebeacon.com
The Washington Free Beacon is an American web site that publishes news and associated content from a conservative perspective. It states it is "dedicated to uncovering the stories that the powers that be hope will never see the light of day” and producing “in-depth investigative reporting on a wide range of issues, including public policy, government affairs, international security, and media."[1] It was founded by Matthew Continetti and Michael Goldfarb and launched on February 7, 2012, as a project of the 501(c)4 organization Center for American Freedom.[2] In August 2014, it announced it was becoming a for-profit news site.[3]

The site is noted for its aggressive, ideologically driven reporting, modeled after liberal counterparts in the media such as Think Progress and Talking Points Memo.[2][4] Jack Hunter, a staff member of U.S. senator Rand Paul’s office, resigned in 2013 after a Free Beacon report detailing his past as a radio shock jock known as the “Southern Avenger” who wore a luchador mask of the Confederate flag.[5] The publication also broke several stories about former first lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s successful 1975 legal defense of an accused rapist that attracted national media attention.[4][6]

The New York Times described the Free Beacon’s reporting as “gleeful evisceration.”[7] However, its tactics have also led to attacks from media critics and watchdog groups. The Atlantic’s Conor Friedersdorf called the Free Beacon’s stated mission “decadent and unethical.”[8] Media Matters for America founder David Brock sent a letter to news organizations in 2014 saying, “If credible media outlets regard the unethical practices of The Free Beacon as valid, all of journalism will be debased.”[9]

Mind you I would not intervene at all in any country's affairs, nor would any of them get a dime from me. If they want to do business that's fine, if not then f**k them.

You wont get non-intervention from progressive assclowns like obama, hillary and kerry. Theft using war and death of innocents are all progressive criminals know how to do.

I am not not naive enough to actually believe what I submit:

Khamenei has said the nuclear bomb is haram (anti Islamic, a sin)

He wants to develop a domestic nuclear program. As a signatory to the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty, they are guaranteed that right. Israel is not a signatory btw

If Iran can develop nuclear energy for domestic needs they can maximize their oil and gas sales on the market

Why they think this can happen in a nation with devastating earthquakes every decade or so is beyond me, however

If you are going to spend so much cash just to maximize some gas sales you might as well invest in any number of industrial fields and export something else, or they could invest in solar power. Iran is exposing itself to some serious risk at an enormous cost for some lousy gigawatts, a la Japan taking over Manchuria for some lousy soybean fields, the most expensive soybeans in history.

Shows your ignorance of Iran.

Might be sitting on an ocean of cheap energy ,but has never had the energy to exploit it.

I believe they still have to import refined product because of this.

A parardox only made worse by sanctions.

"... nuclear bomb is haram (anti Islamic, a sin)"

Someone tell Pakistan that the Koran states that the head goat herder reckons nukes are out on moral grounds.

At least the mass cutting-off of people's heads and burning them alive is still allowed by Islam, there is that.

I suppose you believe what you read in newspapers too?

Iran has demonstrated that it has the technology to put US ships and planes out of action. The Russians have this technoloy. This is why Obama is so keen to negotiate with Iran. It is purely a matter of self interest.

and the evidence that Iran is pursuing a bomb is... what exactly?

http://freebeacon.com/author/matt/

the washington free beacon is run by Bill "Iraq War for Israel" Kristol's son in law.

just something to have in mind.

I dont think many people want Iran to have nukes, but the problem is - Bibi and other Ziopaths have been saying Iran was "months away" for 20 years.

https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2015/03/02/brief-history-netanyahu-cr...

So - that's not just being mistaken.

That's lying in hpes of getting the Yanks to fight a country that is helping Hezbollah resist the Oded Yinon plan, and an *economic* rival for stuff from gas to medical isotopes to nanodiamonds.

Meanwhile, when Israel isn't spying on the US, or killing its saiors and trying to blame Egypt, or helping its sayanim spies in the Pentagon lie about Iraqi wmds...

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2004/01/lie-factory

[^^^why so many right wing zio dual citizen jews looking for wmds?????]

- they were STEALING FROM THE AMERICANS TO BUILD THEIR OWN NUKES.

some of which are probably hidden in their embassies in the US and Europe.

But like Israeli spying, or obvious connections to 9/11 - the press is oddly silent.

Almost as if the press is controlled, and by people more loyal to Israel than the US.

But that sounds like a "conspiracy" and an "anti-semitic" one to boot - therefore it can not possibly be true, despite any and all evidence.

As if there is any path that does not lead to a bomb. The only real question anyone with half a brain knows is when.

Fuck Bibi, this isn't Obama doing nothing to Israel, this is Israel doing everything to start a war, by making sure there is no deal.

Rightly so, because having objected Israeli meddling, the Israelis now turned full force on the other negotiatiors to undermine a deal.

The Talmudists will do everything to destroy a deal, and I think we have seen nothing yet.

The Kabbalah Talmudist will very likely plunge the USA into the final war.
