Japan "Wakes Up," Joins China-led Development Bank (And Then Backs Out)
It’s official: the US is on its own when it comes to opposing the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (see here for full summary of AIIB developments). We suppose it was only a matter of time, but news that Japan will seek membership in a matter of months will likely still come as somewhat of a surprise to Washington, given the otherwise tenuous relationship between the two countries and considering Japan’s leadership role in the ADB. Nevertheless, the Japanese have apparently come to the same conclusion as Australia and South Korea: not joining simply isn’t an option no matter how loudly the US protests. Here’s more from FT:
Japan is likely to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank within a few months, according to the country’s ambassador to Beijing, a move that would see Tokyo break ranks with Washington and leave the US as the only big holdout.
Masato Kitera told the Financial Times he agreed with Japanese business leaders’ belief that the country would sign up to the China-led development bank by June.
“The business community woke up late, but now they have mounted a big campaign for the AIIB which appears to be very effective,” Mr Kitera said…
A Japanese move to join the bank would be a reversal of rhetoric and, for China, the biggest coup yet given the fractious relationship between the two Asian powers.
Japan also has strong links to the rival Asian Development Bank, the head of which it traditionally appoints, and has in the past questioned the need for a new bank...
No country was seen to be as supportive of the US position as Japan — in part because many officials in both countries saw the AIIB as a direct challenge to the Japanese-controlled Asian Development Bank.
But Japanese executives look on China’s ambitious plans to help build infrastructure in the region as a huge business opportunity, as well as a chance to help repair frayed relations.
So in the end, money does indeed talk, and the possibility that the $50 billion venture may serve to shore up relations between Beijing and Tokyo has apparently proven sufficient to outweigh “concerns” about the fund’s lending standards. Of course, as we’ve noted on any number of occasions, the only real concerns about the bank revolve around the degree to which China uses the institution as an instrument of foreign policy, something Beijing has sought to play down even as it pushes for loans to be denominated in yuan. The ball is now in Washington’s court in terms of adopting a stance towards the bank that strikes a face-saving balance between caution and acceptance.

You have no military.
WE have been paying for and put our kids on the line to protect you from China for 50+ years now...
Do you really wanna give China money to play kindmaker with and see if WE are going to stand down if you get into a territorial or other kinda hassle with your new buddies?
All right then..
Yes. WE have been paying. Japan pays billions of dollars a year to the occupying force. http://www.stripes.com/news/pacific/japan/japan-agrees-to-five-year-pact...
US out of Japan and South Korea. Let the Asian nations settle their differences without the USA always mucking up everything...
i can see the fed trying to convince the boj to"stay the
course" while the yen and dollar goes up in suicidal flames.
The time being meaning tomorrow, they'll join the day after.
I can't wait to see Canada join. GO CANADA GO! If Canada joins, I might even vote for Harper, as it would suggest that he still has brains and balls. We must cut the globalist apron strings before they drag us to hell.
the problem with canada is the rest of canada got the brains but they left their balls in quebec, where brains are hard to find. sorry, haven't told that one in a long time.
Canada is in and just opened Yuan trading desks in Toronto and Vancouver. .. got keep the skim chanels open for those liberated $$$
Lets take bets on who wins WWIII. I & II went to Merika, is 3 the charm or will there be an upset?
WWIII the Amuricans against the world!
Really, who will be an allie of the US?
Russia and China, of course. This time they divide the world 3 ways.
Push the button already.....the tensions killing me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgxRfGCPV6g
America did not win WW1 and WW2 was won by the USSR.
Shush you, you're not suppossed to talk about that, it makes the mericans butthurt.
WWIII? That's easy.
Everyone loses...
"Yes. WE have been paying. Japan pays billions of dollars a year to the occupying force. "
1. Maybe Japan should fucking pay as protecting Japan would cost billions of dollars a year no matter who was protecting it.
2. It's too bad you can't seem to understand sarcasm.
3. Yeah. The USA should quit protecting and policing it's merchantilist so-called 'allies' be they Euro or Oceanic. IF China wants it and the Japanese won't or can't defend it...
what could go wrong.... at least their interest rates are not in the pisser.. persay..

.
That's what is known as a military occupation.
Translation from 'american':
"Do you really wanna put Japan's interests ahead of US interests while we have goon squads stationed there and then watch everything burn? Again?
All right then..."
"That's what is known as a military occupation."
Most Americans don't know that Japan funds those American bases to the tune of over $2 billion each year.
That's even worse, having to pay to billet your occupiers.
The billeting costs for some US military force is just a whole lot less expensive that creating their own. The Japanese are smart enough to figure that out. And perhaps the country would rather have their independence than be captured as Hong Kong is.
.
Just waking up, Rip Van Winkle? The British gave back Hong Kong in 1997. It is no longer captured.
Yeah, he's an idiot. He conveniently leaves out the part about the US-written Peace Constitution which forbade Japan from anything more than a shallow water defense force.
As for having independence, every other major economy in the world sees the benefit of joining the AIIB, including Japan. Except Japanese policy is dictated by the US who needs somebody - anybody - to stand with them against China. Independent my ass.
when japan finally got its sea`legs[?]back? it made sure that every sea-going vessal could easily be retrofitted for war.
the nat'l diet has been for years-- and, is now comtemplating the overrule of the ~ 70yr-old 'us war powers act' and are about to build nuclear weapons. currently they enjoy one of the most sophisticated missile and space technology programs, never mind nuclear know-how. fission and *hydrogen*!
No doubt. But the Japanese are not stupid. There is always much discussion about whether the US would hold up its end of the alliance. And I believe that the US provided Japan with much of the nuclear technology they have years ago. Of course, the US has been pushing Japan to join it in wars for decades. Some will say they are just taking advantage of the US protection. The truth is the people would rather have peace so, politically, revising Article 9 has been a tough sell. It still is but they are probably going to do it anyway. Abe is an American hand.
the proverbial irredentist: this volcanic rock between a hard place'd ocean?
orr... a kafkaesque-situation between scylla and charybdis,... this destined catharsis, begotten by a self-inflicted mortal wound... of ones subconscious for survival?
whence, a nascent freudian plea for a anachronistic tabula`rasa intercoursing this surreal`phoenix zeitgeist, rationalizing a darwinian flaw of psychosis contrition?
but... god only knows in the grand game triumph of tragedy... balanced precariously on realism and idealism,... via hope and change-- being the road to hell is always paved with golden showers of good intent?
yes, know?
China did take control in 1997. Perhaps you did not notice that China has managed to reconstruct the terms of the handover agreement. Candidates for government office must be approved by the Party and are communist stooges like you are. The British did leave behind a very prosperous island and a system that China will soon ruin with the controls.
Just wondering, did the whole family hold a celebration when you made it through the sxith grade? You might try for a GED, even though it will take some effort. Would the GED certificate be in the name of Stooge, Jr. or Stooge IV?
Which is kind of funny since if you asked the HK occupy protestors if they would prefer Tokyo over Hong Kong such as it is, the answer would be no.
Augustus you are a moron.
China and the UK had a long term agreement that the UK wold turn HK back to Chinese soverreignty in 1997 and they did.
The US - through FMS (Foreign Military Sales) - has been equipping Japan's military for decades. They have AEGIS, F-15s, H-60s, E2s, BMD (Ballistic Missile Defense), diesel-electric submarines, the list goes on and on.
The only thing preventing them from buying (or building) their own aircraft carrier fleet is the controversial politics surrounding Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution.

****
I-roll
Building carriers you might as well begin producing cavalry, smoothbore muzzle loading cannon, and phalanxs with adamantine spears.
Really, do you think a carrier task force stands a chance against a real technological first world power?
As far as Diesel subs goes - the GOLD standard for a defensive sub, pretty sure the USoA doesn't make them any more.
And the Japanese are buying the F35, which from what I've read would lose a dogfight to a beered up German in a BF109.
Luck has more to do with victory.
Eventually, on the evening of 26 May, her steering gear was crippled by a torpedo bomber attack, and on the following morning she was brought to battle and sunk.
From;

Japan already builds its own jet fighters, stealth fighters, aircraft carriers, etc. They have signed agreements with many countries including Turkey and India to jointly produce weapons. In many ways their technology is already higher than that of USA (although to read USA propaganda America is always No 1 in EVERYthing!)
I have no doubt that this is the end of USA dollar domination of the world. With that will come a crashing end to USA standard of living, etc.
That might be the most idiotic thing I've ever read on this site.
That's right up there with "we had to nuke Hiroshima and Nagasaki in order to save the lives of 1,000,000 American GIs."
That is the American way, we bomb our opponents families into submission.
Hey, say whatever you want about ethics, but total woar WORKS.
We wouldn't be fighting in the Middle East if we just bombed EVERYONE back to the stone age. In fact, the more people I ask whether we should turn the whole damn place into a crater, the more creative responses I get back.
I think one person I asked said we should turn the ME into a "glass pasture". And that was a woman!
I personally can't wait for the next couple of generations to come into power. They simply don't give a fuck. WWIII, here we come!
japan wasn't going to surrender? their was a coup in the emperors [living god/diety?] palace, days before... but failed. hirohito `the hermit god?'.
the jap's had a million strong army forces within days distance from mainland japan, waiting upon orders to come home, and fight to the death if need be.
remember that most of japan was fire-bombed like germany, far worse than the a-bomb in overall destruction. when the two bombs were dropped most of japan had no idea of it happening. strange but true.
stalin was well aware the ussa had the bombs, which truman found abit disturbing, never-the-less truman didn't want the war going on for 6-9 moar months.
the whole truth,.... the irony being that stalin had amassed a million battle-hardened troops in manchuria, china-- waiting to invade japan's mainland within a few days.
the emporer knew that if the russians invaded, they... the bolsheviks, would basically destroy every breathing jap, period! japan would be a communist vessal under stalin's rule which scared the shit out of the cowardly hermit. whom btw, was a habitual lying fucktard!!!

add if necessary?
The point is that the invasion of Japan was never necessary. Japan was cut off from the rest of the world. The population was starving, resources were spent, infrastructure destroyed. Even if those Japanese troops had been recalled, they would have few resources to fight with and no one to fight if the Americans did not invade. Even Eisenhower argued against dropping the bomb on Japan as he saw no military justification for it. The excuse that a million American lives were saved is mere propaganda.
To be sure Japan surrendered to the US rather than face Stalin's army. But even the threat of Stalin did not justify the bombing.
Japan is something like #6 in the world in military spending. Even in Japan you do get a pretty sizable military out of that.
Of course.
God-rilla can attack anytime.
Nothing is worth your soul and the US government has become the Devil.
I'm embarrassed to admit I signed a billion year contract to fight the thetans when I joined SeaOrg; the last thing I remember I was drinking with Hubbard, then I blacked out and awoke on I-95 naked, with a comdom hanging out of my ass.
Do not get too excited.. this is likely part of preconceived scenario planned out years ago .. we get to be part of the new system .. if we give up certain things... if this is an honest attempt by the rest of the world to shed the USSA as master of the universe... I would be surprised... sooner or later the 'new' system will be part of the old system or linked to it .. .. including IMF . World Banks etc. maybe my tin foil hat is too tight again . but this unraveling ... feels like BS. Hope I am wrong and USSA is about to get its ass kicked for its own good.. for the hubris ..and arrogance . greed and empire building .. remember . it was the USSA who gave or sold its technology to China along with high tech as well as low tech manufacturing ... .. Japan had nothing to do with it .. in fact Japan has repeatedly thrown itself under the bus to help keep us propped up.. they bought our bonds ...built plants in the US .. China holds about 8 percent of our debt .. Japan 7 percent .. IMO . this 'new' bank will be part of the old system . hope I am wrong. . .
I'm making over $7k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life. This is what I do... www.globe-report.com
There will be consequences and repercussions
There WILL be WAR
I am getting that sinking feeling in my gut that tells me that we will be on the receiving end of all that worlds wrath and that could be the only reason tptb are allowing us to keep our guns.....or it could be the pasta punkin whipped up for me tonight.
I tried telling people this years ago. Most Americans are so ignorant of global and monetary issues they think none of it affects them. I've actually had friends tell me what's on around the world doesn't affect them, so they don't care. That's the response I got when trying to talk about this stuff.
The fact is though, people are partially responsible for the actions of their government. If things go downhill and people don't start waking up and coming up with some creative ways of avoiding conflict, all those people who thought these issues don't affect them are going to get a very rude awakening.
I lived in the Middle East for two years. People in America don't have much appreciation for the raging fire of anti-American Government hatred that's burning around the world right now. Hopefully it won't go that way.
I hear you, when I bring up foreign policy and world affairs except for a select few they just immediately glaze over and change the subject to some mind numbing bs popular culture crap. I think about 5 - 7 percent of the population can still think.
Many Americans are ignorant and determined to stay that way.
However the ignorance factor is much higher in the general middle east population. their failed governments must find someone to blame so why not shift it to the rich guy. It works here for Obama. Politicians such as Erdogan use the same tactic and apply it without any opposition media. Combine that with the daily incitement in the mosques and the brain washing is pretty effective.
When will countries start letting "calls from Washington" go to voice mail?
gold in dollars will let us know in advance.
Not a big deal, broke is broke. And Japan is broke along with US. Wonderful GDP numbers too.
I think Japan realized that the AIIB doesn't have enough zeros to help them.
And, like every other nation, they took one look at Obama, and said, "Now THERE'S a zero!"
"A zero"?
More like a bunch of zeroes.
Got scared by the Fed, or figured they would not be accepted (after the good Chinese chuckle they heard on the other end of the phone).
Oh good, eventually the ultimate serial QE'er the BOJ will join the worlds newest biggest QE'er (PBOC) to form a bank that will make the FED look like a petty thief.
the deal is done. the dollar is not needed.
the yuan/ruble/yen axis is the greater prosperity circle japan dreamed of at the turn of the 20th century ironically needing china and the brics to provide the way out of usa occupation. the hatoyama manifesto is done.
japan had its own world conquest when it humiliated the russians in the 1905 russo-jap war. japan won the hermit kingdom and several strategic littoral islands. then it went into china using chiang kai-shek as a stooge and literally grab manchuria... changing its name to manchuko. the the civil war had broken out between mao's gurrilla's and kai-shek's kmt military.
japan invades china in the 2nd sino-jap war in 1937 (chinese will never forget the 'rapr of nanking') and is finally defeated in 1945. remember that the civil war in the regional war was put on hiatus with stalin brokering the flimsy-truce (this worked for the bolsheviks helping to keep the japs preoccupied with china while russia could rotate its flank where needed).
japan wanted the whole of china, tibet, and xinjiang. they would be 'autarky`ized' just as the ussa was with s. america just north of the 'tropic of cancer' as china is across the vast eastern hemisphere north of the 'tropic of cancer'. talk about geography.
fortunately the jap's lost... and the ussa won. the ussa quickly realized china would be a threat by the 21st century so they quickly engaged japan and taiwan as future economic and strategic geopolitical vassals? in the sea of japan/east china sea [#1]chain of contention? btw, china is quietly winning over the south-china sea.
with over the-horizon... australia and indonesia coming on board, things are moving very-fast.
the ussa will definitely start something, but where one does not know.
hint: sisi is following nassers 'arab-army', some 60 years plus ago that really messed-up the me til this day. sisi is playing the russians against the saudi/ussa which is a deadly combo.
jmo
ps. mao was lightyears ahead of any of the characters until near death. japan was insane with pride and the bolsheviks were a flawed ideology, whereas the ussa blew the whole cold-war decade detente [1990-2001] by shear hubris and arrogance.
jmo
please add if... ?
ahhh, someone finally agrees with me that mao's china was just waiting for the right moment to unleash china on the world. it is no accident nixon's china overture coincided with the end of the gold standard followed by deng zhao ping's declaration that to be rich is glorious in 1979.
oh yea, china is doing peacefully with money what japan tried to do by force(the western way they studied so well). the greater asian prosperity circle was the vision of imperial japan, to tie all the asian countries into one economic zone.
There are many in Japan who would welcome a closer Asian community. In fact, the nation voted for such a change in 2009, a glimmer of hope that die within a year. If Japan is going to be a part of the Asian century, it has to move away from the US. However, if that happens, the US will lose most all of its leverage in East Asia so they can never allow it to happen.
the japanese are in a real fix. they need to turn to china without upsetting the usa which is virtually impossible. i am sure they will find the quintessential passive/aggressive japanesy way to do it.
japan will not go down with pacific naval command even as they appear to be willing to right to the end. china needs japan and the yen as an almost seemless integration of the yuan and the brics bank right into the existing nyc/city(fed/boe) framework as a partner or a rival. that is when china will uncouple the yuan.
As for Japan finding a way to accomplish it, perhaps. From time to time, there is talk about becoming neutral, like Singapore which actually makes a lot of sense for Japan. But as pressure mounts from the US to abandon Article 9, hopes dim for that being a viable alternative. Japan surely is in a fix unless the public returns to its post-war rioting in the streets mindset.
That will never happen. Japan is the forward base in the Pacific for US empire, just as Israel is the forward base for empire in the ME.
Mao used different methods to control the population "problem." Interesting that you believe he was "ahead" of the other government leaders.
He threaten to have Micheal come back there and pull her pecker out next time. That would scare the shit out of me tooooo
You took paper, no pay back! We take island!
Ridicurus!
AIIB doesn't mean squat. What matters now is what form the new "deal" with Iran will look like and how long it will take Israel to bomb Iranian nuclear facilities.
He who hesitates, masterbates.
As I mentioned before, I have no problem with China starting up a rival to the IMF/World Bank duopoly. If they want us to stop lending to Third World shit holes so they can start lending to Third World shit holes, they got my vote. Like anything is going to change so far as picking viable projects or getting paid back by indigent jungle governments.
Japan tried something very similar in the 80s. Loaned all sorts of money out with various strings attached-- primarily that the money be spent buying Japanese equipment rather than stuff from somebody else. Sound like this is what the new AIIB is up to, hmmm?
And it's going to work out just the same as it always does. Stimulate domestic sales to politically-connected companies, build white elephant showpieces that fall apart even before they are finished (if ever). Massive skimming of development money into Switzerland.
They want that business, I say let them have the whole shebang. I'm sick of buying friends. And they aren't even our friends, so focus them in the hocus pocus.
You go, China, yeah baby. And the rest of you suckers, as well. Yankee, stay out (for a change) and put American money to work rebuilding America, not Bumfukistan. It time that somebody else starting filling up rat holes.
you would get more attention if you just yelled it is antisemitic to join the rival bank.
I think most people are weary of central banks fucking with their wages & their mediums of exchange in general.
i know that and i know your views on the matter. tara is a little screechy about it.
tara like many imply there is a choice
the game is still red vs blue, east vs west for the delight of the serfs
profits will continue to fall in the right hands
Well I'm glad at least you do.
Personally I think all the Jew, Chinamen, Hindu, Mormon, Catholic, Saudis, Russian central bankers etc. must get a helluva laugh out of it all by us ripping each other to shreds.
"Oh roook, he call you zionist banker, hahaha. Well thats after he called you a squinty eyed commie."
Yeah, great party, I'm goin outside where the cool people are behind the bush ;-)
.
Shhhhh, don't let everyone know...
http://9buz.com/you-may-be-high-but-youll-never-be-johnny-cash-eating-ca...
Why would I do that? I think China is doing this in its own interest. Trade growth has flat-lined and their domestic economy is built on a foundation that mixed sugar water in with the portland.
They have no choice but to grow or implode, and this desperate measure shows to what level they are willing to sink in order to manufacture some cash flow.
Plus China has a serious case of penis envy with Uncle Sam. Whatever Sam has, China wants a bigger, better, newer one to show how important and stuff it really is.
Interesting combination of propaganda and naked self-interest, actually.
you don't know the chinese mindset. as with most westerners you assign western values to all things asian, from india to mongolia.
china has always been defensive minded. soft money diplomacy is its trademark since the beginning of trade. they bring money. they bring people. they make themselves influential as a local community with close ties to the mainland. chinese merchants dominate the local economics in almost every pacific asian country except japan.
japan is also defensive minded. china is japan's rival, not because of nanking, because china is the rival of every country in the pacific. having said that the pacific region was peaceful in relative terms for hundreds of years before the west arrived. that is because, with the exception of the khan brothers, the japanese western adventure and internal conflict, the east is much more about cooperation than conquest.
despite the local rivalry the entire region knows a strong china is good for the region as a sort of benevolent dictator to use a western reference.
Yes, everybody longs for a benevolent dictator giving them orders.
India. Burma. Vietnam. Taiwan. Japan. The Philippines. South Korea. Hell, North Korea.
Everywhere you look, there are happy neighbors clamoring for their instructions from the Forbidden City.
"Yes, everybody longs for a benevolent dictator giving them orders. "
As long as the benevolent dictator isn't the imperialist USA apparently.
Everywhere you look, there is American "Soft Power" bribing, arm-twisting, and corrupting those nations to isolate China.
Haven't you read the Pivot-to-Asia game plan? It's all over the internet, in Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Burmese, Filipino, Hindi, Mandarin and even Russian.
Dude, why are you having such difficulty in understanding that I agree with you?
I don't want an American Imperium. I don't want America loaning money to Third World shit holes. I don't want to give orders to anybody and I sure as hell don't want them giving them to me.
I think the AIIB is a good idea. I think it's a great idea. I think it's a wonderful idea. Can I be any plainer than that? Yet you seem to insist that I must not only agree that it is a fabulous idea but that I must also slavishly submit myself to your logic for thinking why it is such an amazing project. The reasons I have for thinking it is a superlative concept are vastly different from yours, but why is it so important that my reasons for practical agreement be discredited? What sort of tyrannical worldview requires me to not just agree but align my thinking in exact precision to yours?
China wants to play Imperator for a while. Marvelous. Go for it. I'm here rooting you guys on. It won't work, but that doesn't mean I don't want you to give it a whack. Prove me wrong and make the world a better place.
And please stop confusing me with Barack Obama. I am an American. He is not on the American side. He is on the tyrannical world government side. But I do have to say that America, no matter who runs it, does not send troops across the China-India Line of Actual Control. Not an American plot. America is not artificially colonizing Tibet a la Israelis on the West Bank (exact same thing, no?). Not an American plot. America is not claim-jumping the accepted international boundaries of Vietnam and the Philippines. Not an American plot.
When these previously "Yankee, go home" countries come knocking on Sam's door, it isn't American bribery but Chinese heavy-handedness that brings them to swallow their pride.
So stop with the Black-White worldview. The government of China is every bit as cynical and corrupt and scheming as is the government of the United States or anywhere else.
And it wants the same thing-- power.
Plus China has a serious case of penis envy with Uncle Sam. Whatever Sam has, China wants a bigger, better, newer one to show how important and stuff it really is.
Interesting combination of propaganda and naked self-interest, actually.
Using a penis brain for decision making generally gives less that optimal results.
If China wants to adopt Venezuela as their bailout project, I have no objection.
I wish them luck with the Greek funding that many of the ZH nutters propose.
"Using a penis brain for decision making generally gives less that optimal results."
you might want to take a bit of your own advice. lol
You're either stupid or purposefully disingenuous. The whole point of the IMF/World Bank is to put all of the resources of the "Third World shit holes" in the hands of Western cos and banks. If China offers them a better deal, the West loses a lot of clout.
Some of you Rah! Rah! American hands underestimate China's (and Russia, as well) position in the world. They understand history and see how America and the West went wrong on their controlling-the-world thing. They have both the incentive and means to offer the world peaceful trade and protection from the West's 5-decade-old "Soft Power" hegemony. Done right, those communists in China might give the world a better alternative from the current regime. Here's hoping they succeed.
Why is it that I'm stupid for approving of the AIIB and you're smart for approving of the AIIB? We both want it to take over from the IMF/WB, so what's the problem?
"Japan tried something very similar in the 80s. Loaned all sorts of money out with various strings attached-- primarily that the money be spent buying Japanese equipment rather than stuff from somebody else. Sound like this is what the new AIIB is up to, hmmm?
And it's going to work out just the same as it always does. Stimulate domestic sales to politically-connected companies, build white elephant showpieces that fall apart even before they are finished (if ever)."
I'll go with disingenuous instead of stupid. Basically, you're saying, "Yeah, let 'em try, but it'll fail anyway so why worry about it." Which is really the only thing the US can say at this point since everyone seems to be piling in on it despite concerted efforts (and threats) by the US to stop them.
Tyler was correct about Japan receiving a call for the US and backing out.
Do I think it will fail? Of course I think it will fail. It's obvious it's going to fail, but I do not care if it does or does not.
The critical point is that I want the United States to stop enabling these shit birds. We've done it for far too long and seriously warped the world as a result of our efforts. So, yeah, I want it to stop for the benefit of both those who have become addicted to foreign sugar and those who are now in the ridiculous position of borrowing money so we can give it away to foreign tyrants.
Everyone in the world is about to go Cold Turkey, whether they realize it or want it. I want my country to get started on the path to rational reform first so it will heal first. That means cutting out all the extravagances that it could easily afford in 1955 but is quite insane to be splurging on in 2015.
If the AIIB will assist Third World shit holes in a time when American support should rightly be withdrawn, then more power to it. Go AIIB. US out, China in.
"If the AIIB will assist Third World shit holes"
that includes the ussa. :)
Not American. Not impressed with the idea of Chinese "rule". Not impressed with UN, American or any other intruder either.
When did we lose the ability to articulate a desire national independence from global crap?
Suddenly its about choosing east vs west for global hegemony... hang on, if you had a globalist agenda wouldn't that be useful?
First, the West has to be stopped. Americans are not going to revolt and they certainly aren't going to change the direction of the nation through the ballot box.
I'm not for Chinese rule either, but they seem to be the only thing on the planet now with the means to stop the West. That is why I said, "Done right..."
it has always been about the balance of power. the usa has been unnopposed for a generation. they have made a mess of it. it isn't a matter of china ruling the world as much as providing a balance on the teeter totter.
i am american of asian descent. the only reason i cheer for a brics victory is because my country has been coopted by a bunch of crazy people who are endangering the lives of my family and friends in the usa.
"When did we lose the ability to articulate a desire national independence from global crap?"
you never had it in the 1st place. it's always been global
"They have both the incentive and means to offer the world peaceful trade and protection from the West's 5-decade-old "Soft Power" hegemony. "
The same old protection racket with a new front with slightly different Oligarchs getting larger cuts of the racket.
That's a false assumption which seems only to give people the choice between the devil you know and devil you don't. If the Chinese are smart - and they are incredibly smart - they can seize an historic opportunity to lead the world without hegemony and without destroying the sovereignty of nations. That's not to say they will, but the timing could not be better.
They could, but they don't. I've been to African nations where Chinese have bought majority shares of mines and other resources. I've seen how they invest in infrastrucure while sucking resources out of said country. I've witnessed how they build Chinese enclaves on land purchased that used to feed the local population. It's all about colonization, not much different than what's been done for 500 or more years by the west. My suggestion: take a tour of the world and witness for yourself.
whole point of the IMF/World Bank is to put all of the resources of the "Third World shit holes" in the hands of Western cos and banks. If China offers them a better deal, the West loses a lot of clout.
A population that is carrying water on their heads from the well a mile away, while gathering sticks for the cooking fire would surely like to improve resource useage. JMHO. I have not developed a desire to eat roasted grasshoppers.
Perhaps you like to live that way. Most humans would prefer something better that results for tradeing things of value. You guys who spend your days watching goats eat grass are welcome to that if you like it.
you are out of your league dickbump
"They want that business, I say let them have the whole shebang.
+1
From Washington consensus to Being consensus. These are the real 'rat holes'.
The Chinese have learned very well how the system of buying friends and gaining influence works and at the same time earn a buck on lending money to third world countries' dictators selling them high profile infrastructure projects that there is no real need for and as you say will fall apart the moment you deliver them.
A notable example comes to mind: money lent to construct a obsolete Westinghouse nuclear power plant in a third world country in an earth quake zone near an active volcano. The things never worked a day in its life.
So China is now playing the same game because the system of making a whole lot of money out of 'rat holes' as you call them has to go on while gaining friends at the same time.
Remember this "Live Aid" thing in the 80s? Bob Geldoff said he was proud that the event raised 33 million pound at the time. Until he found out that that is the amount of money that Africa needs to pay to lenders every two weeks. In interest alone, not even installments. The pillaging of a continent full of 'rat holes' continue.
Agreed. It's all about resource extraction, colonization. End of story.

Another nail in Americas coffin - Fuck Yeah
What kind of fucked up headline is this?
Is it in English?
Was "I swear, I'll pull out" in Japanese or something?
the headline sort of mimics the japanese position neither here nor there. lol
Everyone but Japan and the U.S., perfect. Death of the Dollar and a new World currency?
Of course, just don't tell Washington or Wall Street.
Why does Zerohedge continue to parrot on the false dichotomy between the red team and blue teams of the world? We're moving onto a one world government, stop reporting this as if they're not all colluding. It's annoying.
Elysium on crack.
Thanks for sharing your belief that this is all a one world scam out to get 98% of the population. I beg to differ.
East vs West is the same as Elephant vs Donkey; "divided & easily conquered".
It looks like a storm is heading to US but will only affect the John and Jean Americans. Now they will feel how it's to live in a third world country.
There are some countries that are just not going to qualify due mainly to dept created by over extended 'paper' fiat money.. and the aparent ability to reasonably reign it in.
Sorry Japan, you need more tax contributors. How about getting some robots to contribute?
What is Japan?
1. A colony of America where America maintains its military bases to suppress Japanese ; not allow to rise up militarily; maintain regional hegemony & project its military & political power
2. An place to keep ts nuclear arsenal for quick reaction
3. A place to absorb American debt in trillions of dollars; Japan selling its goods to America as if free, while getting paper Dollar: Money for nothing. When dollar crashes Japan is also crushed.
4. A place to print free paper currency Yen without any backing, just like its American masters, and financing its affairs with fiat.
5. A place to get entertained for Americans , reproduce to produce mixed japanese+American better looking humans.
6. Geisha (read pros.) to serve its master America
7. Slave of America
8. A Puppet of America
9. An obedient poodle of America
10. A Parrot of America the Pirate chief which repeats every word what America says
11. All the above
japan is becoming more and more insignificant in the scheme of things.
hanging on to the ussa is an act of folly.
it's population is more geriatric each day.
it's radioactivity is increasing each day.
it's point of view regarding sea animals is barbaric.
another tsunami will seal its fate.
its lurch toward militarisation is ridiculous.
it would be better to make friends with its neighbors and quit trying to act like the deciding factor in asia.
it is no more.
BREAKING! NEWS FLASH! JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER SHINZO ABE DEAD AT 61! modernmarketingjapan.blogspot.jp/2015/03/news-flash-japanese-prime-minister.html
They backed out due to the USA's armtwisting.
Mr. Abe and Company have taken the "we can take our time to review this before joining" approach thus far.
It's a matter of time before they do, since the JPN/CHN Trade is larger than JPN's Trade with the USA.
Japan is scared of the Langley Inc after that Fukishima (ongoing) event. I'll guess the delay is due to a visit by MurderInc. There will be HAARP to be played on a few nations and that you can take to the BankingCabal.
