Payrolls Leaked (Again)?

Tyler Durden's picture

Was it just the - as predicted - algos running wild in short-term run stops or did USDJPY (and EURUSD) swing violently in the seconds before the payrolls print because, yet again, someone got to see the number early?

No question, someone got it early. Will anyone ever admit to it? Probably not but they're not in the habit of admitting to much anyway until they're finally outed by a Snowden etc.

They clear the baffles by running the stops on every big event. Unless you're a machine it's best not to have a stop loss and wait for the smoke to clear. Win big or lose big depending on your coin toss because whether it's up or down is also unpredictable. Good news is bad news, good news is good news, bad is good or bad is bad, who can tell? You have a probabilistic advantage by being on the bull side but that goes against my bearish soul. Unless you like betting on coin tosses it's best to sit these events out.

Given a) the lack of any meaningful liquidity in the run up to any significant data release and b) the small amounts traded, to read anything into this is pointless.  Call me when you see at least a hundred yards going through.

And everyone on CNBC and ZeroHedge will call the criminals "investing legends" for their ability to make ass piles of money with illegal inside information. There isn't a human alive that can see the future. And not yet one born that can guess correctly 100% of the time. Show me an "investing legend" and I'll show you a filthy criminal. Simple as that. Not jealous, just speaking the honest truth.

Absolutely. There's nothing new under the sun. Honoré de Balzac (1799 – 1850) maintained that behind every great fortune there is a great crime. The way he put it was "The secret of great fortunes without apparent cause is a crime forgotten, for it was properly done."

Yes, most everyone is basically smart enough and working hard.  The ones who get ahead are those who cut the most corners and cheat.

Price action before the data was shady, but often is - especially NFP.
