Cypriot President Throws Greeks Under The Bus: "Planning To Deal With Grexit"

Tyler Durden's picture

"I want to believe that there is no such risk," says Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiades, but in a shock to the Greeks, their close 'ally' in Cyprus, as KeepTalking Greece notes, openly joined the international Grexit propaganda club, as Anastasiades said his country had a backup plan to deal with the fallout of a possible Greek exit from the eurozone.

As ekathimerini reports,  Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiades told a media conference in Nicosia on Friday that Nicosia has a backup plan to deal with the fallout of a possible Greek exit from the eurozone.

"I want to believe that there is no such risk," Anastasiades said in response to a reporter's question. But to be on the safe side, Nicosia has "prepared a plan to deal with whichever outcome may transpire," Anastasiades said, citing a Cypriot saying according to which "forward-looking children cook before they get hungry."

Anastasiades added that there was no "great" risk to the Cypriot economy in such a case and that measures had been drawn up to tackle "the minimal risk... and reduce it further."

Also on Friday, Anasastasides announced that Cyprus will next week lift the last of the capital controls that were imposed two years ago as part of a 10-billion euro European bailout.

It seems a fair bet to 'plan' on grexit given the record credit spreads...

But seeing their close partner Cyprus join 'the other side' leaves Greece with very few 'friends' in the Union... (though a couple of big ones ex-union)

I don't see how this is "throwing the Greeks under a bus." By underscoring the real risk of an Grexit or a Graxident, Cyprus is pushing Frau Nein and the Troikstitutions to make concessions in order to save the Euro.

I'm just an old redneck. Someone explain to me how crypto currencies would work if gov'ts decided to shutdown, or otherwise sabotage the internet. Or maybe terrorists disrupt the power grid on a wide scale that may take weeks or months to restore. How will these electronic currencies, any of them, work under those circumstances. What and how would ordinary people trade for goods and services they don't have?

You keep your fuckin' "BitCoins"

I'm still stackin'

hairball re. CryptoCurrencies - as to date, they are backed by nothing, the short answer is don't worry about it. A longer answer has to do with avoiding currency controls, hidden flaws, groups like the NSA can exploit and existing implementations relying on what's refered to as first mover advantage. There are issues with something called block chains and of course the reliance on the grid, but no need to even go there.

I'll never forget where i was when Miley Cyprus gave that ' I had a PLAN speech ' just before Luther or was it Lucifer who was assassinated on that balcony in a German Monastery?

Cyprus is 2 countries and the way of life in northern Cyprus . the muslim life will remain as is with little change whilst the other EU lot will die a slower death, pummeled hard in the ass by all-comers.

The harsh truth about all of this BS that's written day in and day out is that in the Grand Scheme of things SHEOPLE ARE BATSHIT STUPID and happy with 10 year cyclical ass renderings.

For every one Zealot there are 50k sorry ass excuses of humans only too willing to toe the line and thereby assist in crushing the spirit of more discerning individuals, the likes of those on Z/H.

When the ECB didn't want to extend funds to Greece awhile ago that's when they should've left. However, that would've left a lot of people screwed. Instead, they are prolonging this exit so people can make decisions about their money while they still can. In the meantime, we already know how and what is going to happen in the case of a Grexit. If Greece files bankruptcy then every other country in the Eurozone is going to want to file bankruptcy just like in the housing crisis...same thing just with country's finances instead. That is why the Eurozone is worried more about the effects of the Grexit than taking the actual loss.

This is finally getting real.

Greece draws up drachma plans, prepares to miss IMF payment
'We are a Left-wing government. If we have to choose between a default to the IMF or a default to our own people, it is a no-brainer,' says senior Greek official

Greece is drawing up drastic plans to nationalise the country's banking system and introduce a parallel currency to pay bills unless the eurozone takes steps to defuse the simmering crisis and soften its demands.

Sources close to the ruling Syriza party said the government is determined to keep public services running and pay pensions as funds run critically low. It may be forced to take the unprecedented step of missing a payment to the International Monetary Fund next week.

Funny headline.

Greeks have been thrown under the bus by Cyprus?

In my opinion by TBTF banks and the masters from Khazarian mafia, who run Amurica.......and not by Cypriots.
