Deadly East Village Explosion Allegedly Due To Owner Sabotage

Tyler Durden's picture

In a world seemingly bereft of consequences for all but the lower classes, the removal of an "illegally rigged gas supply" before a ConEd visit, appears to have been the cause of the deadly explosion in New York's East Village last week. A plumber who worked at the building has allegedly, according to NY Post, admitted to illegally tapping into a gas line there - saying that the landlord’s son ordered him to do it (who, perhaps karmically, was hurt in the blast).

As NY Post reports,

A plumber who worked at the East Village building where two people died in an explosion last month has admitted to illegally tapping into a gas line there — but said the landlord’s son ordered him to do it, The Post has learned.

The unidentified tradesman confessed to rigging a gas-supply system for apartments at 121 Second Ave. but blamed it on his boss to “deflect” any fault from himself, law enforcement sources said.

Authorities haven’t decided whether to cut a deal with the worker in exchange for his testimony or use his statement against him, one source said.

The official investigation is still in its preliminary stage, with probers trying to recover evidence from the rubble, sources added.

Investigators suspect an illegal hookup in the building was removed from a gas line ahead of a Con Ed inspection on the day of the explosion, then reinstalled before the devastating blast about 30 minutes later.

The building’s landlord has been identified as Maria Hrynenko, who inherited it and several others from her late husband, Michael Sr. The husband ran the East Village’s iconic 24-hour Kiev diner before his death in 2004.

Authorities have said the couple’s son, Michael Jr., 29, was at the building before the explosion, along with general contractor Dilber Kukic of The Bronx.

*  *  *

Michael Hrynenko Jr., also called “Mischou,”...

...was hurt in the blast and carried to safety by Kukic.

One could guess the rigged part was tapping the gas line before the meter base to have a free stream of gas. Apartment building, gas included in rent?

I believe most rentals have heat included as there are single boilers or gas furnaces without separate meters.  Perhaps remodeled buildings have a meter attached to each apartment.

everyone would repair to the Kiev for eggs, potatoes and "challah" bread.

Or there was always 'Club 54' for "new wave" but the repair was the same: The Kiev.

For whatever that asshole did to blow the place up whether by accident or by avarice: heaps and heaps of shame on his ugly head.

Mon, 04/06/2015 - 18:51 | 5964325 ThroxxOfVron
ThroxxOfVron's picture

It is almost certain that both someone from ConEd and someone from the Municpality was taking bribe money to look the other way.  The building owner was busted for code violations once already in that very building for illegally piping gas.

When you catch someone doing it once the only reponsible thing to do if you aren't on the take is to check on them on a regular basis to make damned sure that they have quit.

IMHO, if you buy the statist/.GOV needs to regulate shit line of reasoning: the fine for the first incidence of such insanely dangerous and illegal activity should have been so fucking high that the building should need to have been sold to pay it, or the building should have been taken by emminent domain outright simply on the grounds of public safety.  If the local authorities are letting assholes repeatedly fuck with the gas in a crowded urban area for a quick buck then the local authorities are obviously taking bribes.

Since the illegal gas line had been temporarily unhooked just before the ConEd inpector's visit it seems rather obvious that the inpector was tipping off the landlord well in advance so that they could call up their illegal gas line tapping lackey to come and pull the line and then wait around to put the illegal tap back in place after the ConEd ( and possibly Municpal inspector(S) as well ) had taken their bribe money and left the scene..

C'mon: it would be totally obvious to any ConEd and/or Municpal inspector who's job is to know how the gas lines are supposed to be run and where there should or should not be access points, line taps, valves, switches, odd exposed cross piping, etc.

The Owner, the contractor, the ConEd inspector, and almost certainly someone from the Municipality: were ALL conspiring in the scam that resulted in deaths, destruction, injuries, homelessness, and a lot of costs to the taxpayers of NYC in response expenditure, sanitation and post mortem, etc., etc...

Everyone involved is at a minimum guilty of conspiracy and murder ( not to mention the code violations, endangerment, bribery, professional misconduct, abdication of duty, abuse of office, etc. ) -and each and every person involved no matter what their little part in ordering, arranging, engineering, hiding, abetting, covering up, looking away, or otherwise taking part in this derseves a bullet to the back of the head for it.

According to the ConEd site, the gas service at the building that exploded, was undergoing "upgrades", and the gas service was "locked" down.

I wonder if the news reporter put any effort into his article.

What I found on the internet, if it can be believed, is that gas was shut off and the owner had the contractor tap into a live line in the adjacent building (also owned by the same person) in order to feed the restruant (only) in the building with no gas.

Oh yeah, that's right, it's a proggie paradise, it's one that's filled with a lot of .gov regs, their inspectors, and let's not forget the biggest "competitive" element of this exchange: a monopoly supplier to boot. Artist: King Missile

Song: Detatchable Penis

I woke up this morning with a bad hangover And my penis was missing again. This happens all the time. It's detachable. [background singing begins: "detachable penis" over and over] This comes in handy a lot of the time. I can leave it home, when I think it's gonna get me in trouble, or I can rent it out, when I don't need it. But now and then I go to a party, get drunk, and the next morning I can't for the life of me remember what I did with it. First I looked around my apartment, and I couldn't find it. So I called up the place where the party was, they hadn't seen it either. I asked them to check the medicine cabinet 'cause for some reason I leave it there sometimes But not this time. So I told them if it pops up to let me know. I called a few people who were at the party, but they were no help either. I was starting to get desperate. I really don't like being without my penis for too long. It makes me feel like less of a man, and I really hate having to sit down every time I take a leak. After a few hours of searching the house, and calling everyone I could think of, I was starting to get very depressed, so I went to the KIEV, and ate breakfast. Then, as I walked down Second Avenue towards St. Mark's Place, where all those people sell used books and other junk on the street, I saw my penis lying on a blanket next to a broken toaster oven. Some guy was selling it. I had to buy it off him. He wanted twenty-two bucks, but I talked him down to seventeen. I took it home, washed it off, and put it back on. I was happy again. Complete. People sometimes tell me I should get it permanently attached, but I don't know. Even though sometimes it's a pain in the ass, I like having a detachable penis. [background voices continue to sing "detachable penis" for a while, then out]

Agree, but what is a "tax cheat?"

Is that like keeping more of your earnings, and being less of a theft victim?

The banksters need to repay us.

Someone that pays $100,000 less in taxes to NYC, may prevent the tyrants from hiring one more gun and badge thug. One less thug may mean over $100,000 less in extortions, fines, paid per year by the subjects of NYC, $millions less property "seized," and one or two less murders by authority, over the next 20 or so years.

A tax not paid is tyranny undermined.

We all steal when one looks at the big picture.  Take, take, take.  Privatize the profits and socialize the costs.  It's what humans do.
