EURUSD Flash-Crashes To Friday's Payroll Lows

Tyler Durden's picture

The most 'liquid' FX cross in the world... just flash-crashed...

Perhaps this, as we discussed only this morning, will help clarify who is 'providing liquidity'... The one asset that is responsible for Virtu's trading dominance is no longer stocks, bonds, options or commodities. It is...

And in case it was not highlighted well enough, here it is again.

So this was nothing but an algo-inspired 60 pip vertial waterfall stop hunt to eliminate any resting orders from a vacationing Europe ahead of tonight's Asian open...

Nobody's going to leave the euro. Not Greece, not anyone else. But a year from now there will still be articles about a Grexit "real soon now".

Let's hope these are tremors building up to the big one.

If everyone remembers back to 1987, it was computers that caused the crash. At the time, everyone was sold on the idea of computerized trailing stops. If the market goes down 10% or whatever, just sell at market and don't worry about it. Millions of people doing the same thing => 20% down in a single day.

Computers are the same as humans but they're much faster. Imagine everyone running from one side of the boat to the other, but they can run at the speed of light.

This type of "algo inspired" activity has been happening for decades, so what's the story here? That it's Virtu running stops? OK, their "risk" is that what they have to sell to hit the stops they need to buy and get filled; what if they don't get it? Just because they "run the stops" doesn't mean they get the fills on the other side from the banks. So, just sayin' they have risk as well.

I am expecting central command to allow collapse within weeks, not months, now

They had that plan in october 2011 after they planned out MFG collapse in advance then they changed their mind

Same plan in May 2013 when they allowed UST yields to rise but they changed their mind again.

I don't see them changing their mind now. Just my view.

Simple.

In 2007 they used Bear Stearn and Lehman as sacrificial lambs in order to clean up the system.

In 2011 they used MFG but for some reason they changed their mind and I think it has to do with Iran.

Now world trade is dying again and Saudis are now advancing against Iran.

There is no other option but to slaughter a couple more sacrificial lambs. Otherwise world dumps USD for REAL TRADE totally

LOL Its not a flash crash if the drop is menial. Flash crashes are several to double digit % loss in a matter of seconds. Just like dumbass liberals who keep using the term austerity to describe budget balancing. Its incorrect.
