US Police Kill More Civilians In March Than UK Police Killed In 100 Years

The following statistics seem impossible to believe. While I wonder how accurately the UK has been tracking these numbers historically, the enormous spread seems much too large to ignore, and is a national embarrassment that should be dealt with immediately.

A new report by ThinkProgress.com unearthed disturbing figures when it came to the number of police-related deaths that occurred in America in the month of March alone.
Just last month, in the 31 days of March, police in the United States killed more people than the UK did in the entire 20th century. In fact, it was twice as many; police in the UK only killed 52 people during that 100 year period.
According to the report by ThinkProgess, in March alone, 111 people died during police encounters — 36 more than the previous month.
This high number in March increased the average for police killings from every 8.5 hours, to nearly 1 police killing every 6.5 hours in the US.
China, whose population is 4 and 1/2 times the size of the United States, recorded 12 killings by law enforcement officers in 2014.
On average, US police kill people at a rate 70 times higher than any of the other first world countries as they “protect and serve” the American citizens.
This is not what freedom looks like.

This is a very divisive issue, even within families.
To me, Southern born & bred who grew up hunting, fishing, and in a military family, guns are just a natural part of life. With multiple handguns, rifles, and shotguns around the house, it has never even crossed my mind to be without them.
To my 44 year old son, L.A. based and in the entertainment biz, guns are hideous and he is all for gun control.
To me, guns represent safety, food, and a way of life.
To him, they only mean danger and fear. His experiences living in San Francisco and Los Angeles for the past 20+ years have been much different than mine.
This is another one of life's dilemmas with no solution. Urban vs rural is really what it comes down to in most cases, in my opinion.
Few jobs are more high stress than being a policeman. There is potential danger in every encounter, and the adrenaline stays elevated. It's not a job that everyone can handle, and I fear we have too many cops that have become jaded, or who never should have passed the psychological screening to begin with. Having to deal with the worst parts of society eventually gets to you, and it is hard to maintain respect for those who don't have respect for you
However, shooting a non-violent suspect from a traffic stop in the back 8 times from a distance is murder, and things like this are happening far too often. The entire crinimal justice system needs to be torn apart and re-built. We need far fewer laws, much more strictly enforced. Sentencing needs to come from the approach of how can the perp become a plus for society instead of being made a lifelong burden on the back of society, which is what we are doing to huge numbers of our population. Too many people are doing time for things that shouldn't even be criminal. Others who did commit crimes that were relatively minor are languishing in jail with decades long sentences.
Too bad it will probably get much worse.

Thousands of state laws are passed every year to criminalize the public. Most of the laws are "behavior" laws, and we all know you can't legislate behavior. Never works.
