USA Today: U.S. Government Tracked Billions of American Phone Calls BEFORE 9/11
USA Today reports:
The U.S. government started keeping secret records of Americans’ international telephone calls nearly a decade before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, harvesting billions of calls in a program that provided a blueprint for the far broader National Security Agency surveillance that followed.
For more than two decades, the Justice Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration amassed logs of virtually all telephone calls from the USA to as many as 116 countries linked to drug trafficking, current and former officials involved with the operation said.

The similarities between the NSA program and the DEA operation established a decade earlier are striking – too much so to have been a coincidence, people familiar with the programs said. Former NSA general counsel Stewart Baker said, “It’s very hard to see (the DEA operation) as anything other than the precursor” to the NSA’s terrorist surveillance.
Both operations relied on an expansive interpretation of the word “relevant,” for example — one that allowed the government to collect vast amounts of information on the premise that some tiny fraction of it would be useful to investigators. Both used similar internal safeguards, requiring analysts to certify that they had “reasonable articulable suspicion” – a comparatively low legal threshold – that a phone number was linked to a drug or intelligence case before they could query the records.
“The foundation of the NSA program was a mirror image of what we were doing,” said a former Justice Department official who helped oversee the surveillance. That official said he and others briefed NSA lawyers several times on the particulars of their surveillance program. Two former DEA officials also said the NSA had been briefed on the operation. The NSA declined to comment.
This is not the only time that the Drug Enforcement Administration has been at the center of U.S. spying. Edward Snowden revealed that the DEA “launders” information gained through mass surveillance by the NSA … and then forwards it to other government agencies to use to prosecute Americans … all the while lying about the source of the information.
In fact, widespread spying on Americans began before 9/11 (confirmed here, here, here, here, here, here and here).
And the government tapped the 9/11 hijackers’ phones, and heard the 9/11 hijackers’ plans from their own mouths. But that’s okay … spying on Americans never had anything to do with stopping terrorists.
Indeed, the entire "war on terror" started prior to 9/11. That doesn't have much to do with stopping terrorists, either.

As for who done it, I'm resolved to who actually bought the tickets and who eyewitnesses said in their own voices were hijacking the planes at the time. For whatever reason they were fixated on the Trade Center, they had tried it before in 93.
As for accomplices, thats anyones guess but I never attribute to malice that which can adequately explained by sheer incompetence & stupidity...and NO...that doesn't mean I wish to live in the police state that has formed around this murderous event anymore than you do.

I agree that airliners hit the towers. Not too sure about the passenger part though. I mean they arent even the same color as american and united airlines. From what i can deduce they were most likely remote controlled. The only hologram I've heard speak of is the one close up that was used by CNN over and over, the only close up. I saw somebody replicate that exact thing using hologram software. I don't argue that planes hit the towers. I argue that 93 didn't crash in that field and no plane hit the pentagon. As you can plainly see in the pictures I just provided you. That is the difference between those two "crashes" and every other land based crash in the history of mankind. Of course if you can show me a picture of a plane crash where there is no evidence of plane I may reconsider....

Well, I've been down that road with Element (who I also respect) and beacons & waypoints, the passengers definitely got on, so they had to get off somewhere and theres not too many places (out of the way but close to hand, to "dispose" of evidence) where they can drop down, disembark in a WTF! atmoshpere and be replaced on flight control radar without being noticed, by civilian farmers or airmen (if at a some obscure, long runway base)...passenger jets being where they're not supposed to be are pretty noticable.
Which just grows the theory larger, to include people who would not be conncted, defeating the conspiracy, it has to be a small cadre of conspirators for it to work.

Now that we've wrapped the Twin Towers up, I don't know what the deal was with WT7. We know it had fire, we know there was a multi-floor gash from one of the Twin Towers hitting it when it collapsed.
So what is being proposed that was in WT7 that needed to be destroyed in such a dramatic fashion, that is to say, taking down two larger towers to get to WT7?

I was not accusing YOU of being off-topic. I was actually just apologizing for posting such a long comment which was not related to the main post, which is about spying.
In any event, planes and reasons for collapse are totally separate. I'm not going to get into reasons for collapse now. But this is obviously a debate between folks like these, these and these versus folks who say that fire and a gash on the side of WTC7 brought down those 3 buildings.
