Germany Orders 100 Tanks To "Ensure Troops Are Ready To Respond To Russian Assertiveness"

Tyler Durden's picture

With Jean-Claude Juncker demanding a Unified European Army, it appears Germany is wasting no time in simultaneously boosting its own economy with warfare spending and comforting a 'fearful populace' with more military might. As Reuters reports, Germany plans to procure more than 100 additional Leopard 2 tanks, increasing its total Leopard 2 tank inventory by a whopping 45% a government spokesman said on Friday, as it seeks to ensure its "troops are ready for action in response to concerns over recent Russian assertiveness."

Reuters reports:

Germany plans to procure more than 100 additional Leopard 2 tanks, a government spokesman said on Friday, as it seeks to ensure its troops are ready for action in response to concerns over recent Russian assertiveness.

The decision to restock its military comes as NATO tries to hasten the response time of its rapid reaction force following Russia's annexation of Crimea last year and conflict in Ukraine.

"The ministry has decided to raise the upper limit for the future to 328," a defense ministry spokesman told a regular government news conference on Friday, confirming a report by German magazine Spiegel.

Just before the end of the Cold War, in the 1980s, the then West Germany had more than 3,500 tanks. Now, seventy years after World War Two, it has just 225. As a result soldiers have to share tanks and heavy equipment across different units.

Given NATO's new goals on flexibility and rapid reaction time, Germany has to ensure that it can deploy troops with the correct equipment to the right place in a short period of time, the spokesman said. "This can only succeed if the equipment does not need to be first moved around through the country," he said.

The Leopard tanks are made by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW).

So harbinger of S&P algos euphoria-inducing WWIII? Or just another Keynesian public works spending project?

I'm far less worried about the German goverment wasting German taxpayer money on tanks than I am about German taxpayers paying for a sixth Dolphin-class nuclear submarine for Israel. Israel has immediately converted all these subs to carry intercontinential ballistic nuclear cruise misslies. Those missiles can reach anywhere in the EU including Germany.

Whet the FUCK are you thinking, Germany? Exactly what chain of logic was invoked to justify arming Israel with what any retard knows will be conveted to and ICBM nuclear missle launch platform?

How is the safety of the average German citizen protected by giving these madmen an effective nuclear weapons launching platform? Want to make the world a safer place for your citizens? Quit buying useless tanks and quit providing ICBM- nuclear-capable submarines to terroristic states.

[edit: and quit grabbing your knees for America's oligarchs - that's MY problem. Time to put your big boy pants on and tell the U.S. to piss off]

[edit2: gonetogalt rightfully points out that Dolphins are, in fact, diesel-electric powered, not nuclear powered. Thanks, g2g. In addition, the nuclear missiles are actually mid-range cruise missles, not ballistic.]

Uh, those tanks are over 20 years old, have to be totally refurbished, and then crews trained to man them.

With the German people basically soft, pacifist, and not really wanting to pick a fight with Russia, I guess they will dial 1-800-GET-URKS to man their armor. Most Germans are making too much money in crony capitalism to want to leave private industry and defend the Fatherland.

Much less become servants to the Federal Reserve/ECB/Bank of England World War those assclowns want to start.

There are several 1000 trained Leopard tank crews in Germany. And the Leopard 2 in the A6 or A7 version is still the best tank in the world by far. And even more improvements are on the the shelfs already. And the Germans are the best soldiers in the world, because they are effective, efficient and disciplined, because that´s what they learn in their everyday life. I wouldn´t mess around with a German army in full combat mode.

Your stupid Leopard has a huge flat turret with the top of a frying pan (pretty much like the Abrams). It's ideal for getting hit from above with all sort of shit, and rendered useless (including its human content) with 1 or 2 cheap missiles provided they come in fast and straight down. You guys actually forgot how to build a real tank after WWII...

Bingo Angel. Not to mention, the LAST place on the battlefield I would want to be, besides the battlefield, is in a front line tank facing a Russian advance. There will be more shit flying through the air targeting NATO armor and 90% of targets will be zapped in the first weeks of battle.

"Germany" is not a country per say, it's a colonial territory, a US occupation zone with roughly 300 US military bases.

http://www.whale.to/b/starvation_of_germans.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Dresden_in_World_War_II

BTW, there is no such a thing as the "German law", but rather a "Law for Germany" (by the occupational government) with German goyim/gentile having been slaves to Amerisrael since the times of Hansa/Hanseatic League when gentile cattle/slaves were owned and traded by the chosenites. How is it different today if German goyim are working at BMW factories for the Wall Street chosenites to drive only the luxury cars? Nuclear submarines built by German slaves for Israiel is a different discussion though.

And again, as back in WWI and WWII, German and Russian goyim will be killing each once again -- under the careful guidance of another Joseph(!) Goebbels or Joseph(!) Herring  or other "German" chosenite mentors sponsored by the Wall Street and controlling another half-blooded puppet figurehead Schicklgruber.

Russia's order of battle is huge. Thousands of 1960's-80's tanks. They have not been maintained though and they probably couldn't run 100 kilometers, their systems won't work and even if they did their crews wouldn't know how to fight them. Those 225 Leopards could reach Moscow in short order. Then what?

Russian nukes probably won't work either, but even if they have a 80% failure rate that leaves allot of burned up Germans / Germany.

Germany used to deploy US tactical nukes in the bad old days. It is an odd world we live in. Do you think Senator McCain & ole Lindsey Grahm will take time out from supporting ISIS to help the Krauts?

I agree and just wanted to add that American space rockets won't work unless they use the RD-180 Russian rocket engine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RD-180

Pentagon buster cruise missles do wonders though, plus their engines can burn in flames of the fuel they work on.

PS

By they way, is it just me or others as well find most Presidents' names, e.g. Abraham (Lincoln/Lynncohen), sort of questonable?

And why should the "Main Battle Tank" be named Abrams? Brit-milah-waukee could be a cute name for a tank, too.

100 very good Leopard 2?  Or even M1?  My guess is those 30 to 60 year old miners and farmers in the Eastern Ukraine aka NovoRussia can still handle them even with 1930s anti tank guns.  If they have Kornets it will be even easier.

Sure, it's easy to de-track a tank with a man-pad, but unless you're using something upwards of 100mm, you aren't going to kill the tank crew (and even then, if the Russian tank has a Skorpion system built onto it, your RPG/Manpad will just get blown away from the tank).

There's a reason tanks are still built, and it's because they work. A mobile artillery piece that can move fast enough to support ground troops on an advance, over nearly any kind of terrain? With enough firepower to level whole buildings in just a few shots? AND the capability to fire canister rounds into enemy soldiers? Genius!

The Russians are motivated by conflict on their own borders, and possible crossborder attacks. If there is a fight they will make it hurt. The Germans are not similarly motivated, they are being ordered into a battle by an internationalist cabal that has nothing to do with them or Germany except to use them all for cannon fodder. If there is a fight there is no reason they have to kill anyone.

Looks like Reichschancellor Merkel has gone off her shoes. Her actions betray a certain schizophrenie. She plays with the German economy like it is the cruiser Admiral Graf Spee and pretends to be the Kapitän zur See at its helm.

The sanctions against Russia are like the Battle of the River Plate, inflicting damage on the enemy but also suffering damage requiring prompt repair. The tanks and other increased military spending will be the explosive charges used to scuttle the German economy.

Somehow it seems not possible that Geistig behindert Trüffelsau Merkel has the same concern for honor as Hans Langsdorff.

Yeah, well...

So the Germans will be intrigued to learn the Ministry of Defence is plotting another push east, albeit an unconventional one that has been forced on it by budget cuts.

Thousands of the British military's tanks, carriers and cars will head across the Channel because of MoD plans to sell off its vast complex at Ashchurch in Gloucestershire. This is where it stores or repairs up to 6,000 vehicles, ready for duty.

From 2012, mind you. And of course you will be delivered a good story why this is happening, or happened. Nothing to see here!

Oh, yes, Chechen "freedom fighters". That's the code term for US-sponsored foreign wahhabi terrorists, just like in Syria. The Chechens will wipe their asses with those "freedom fighters".

Chechnya has as much right to leave Russia as Crimea had to leave Ukraine.
