"Strong Apple Watch Debut" - Media Propaganda Edition
In addition to the unprecedented $50 billion stock buyback announcement by GE earlier today, the biggest news of the day is the Apple iWatch launch. Or, rather, biggest dud. It all really depends on who you ask.
Here is Reuters:
And here is Bloomberg:
As for the actual eyewitness truth, and the reason why everyone who took AAPL from $100 to $130 on hopes that the "New Paranormal" Casio will be the greatest thing since sliced bread, here it is.

I haven't worn a watch since I took off my 1970 Sieko to play a game of hockey and some asshole stole it. I've been late ever since.
Good way to track stupid people with money.
My $18 Casio Alarm Chrono works just fine! Never had to recharge the battery, either.
Yawn, oh look a penny...
You "chuckleheads" that stand in line for hours and fall all over yourself to buy Apple's latest stuff are the biggest "dopes" the world has ever seen. 2 months from now it will be offered on HSN with a 30%-50% discount with upgrades.

Two problems with the watch. The biggest is the fact that you need to also have your cell phone with you. The other is the fact that most people over 40 including myself begin to have problems with their eyes. I have trouble seeing the apps on my cell phone, not a chance I would be able to use this watch.
The concept itself is screwed right there, at the screen: either it's too small or the watch will be too big. Trying to get around that with a high density screen means too much battery draw - same problem: either the battery's too small or the watch is too big.
Jobs could see over the horizon and push people to achieve what looked impossible. It is not the same thing to simply try to "make it so" by command. Apple is looking "Cooked."
Apple should get back Sculley and create an APPLE TOASTER. That should sell like hot cakes. Without Jobs and his vision they will coast downhill ass oon as Jobs 5 year plan is done.
iDon'tCare
No, I think it has everything to do with Apple announcing that there won't be any in-store sales for the watches. So, people can't wait in line and walk home with one to play with. Therefore, no lines.
What happened to Reggie Middleton? I enjoyed reading his take on Apple.
Anyone?
Nothing like the morning sound of crickets.....both for the iWatch and Reggie.....
Here's my problem with the iWatch. It is a $50 item in a $500-$10k wrapper. People are comparing the Apple Watch to fine swiss timepieces and saying the price isn't bad in comparison. THERE IS A BIG FUCKING PROBLEM, THE APPLE WATCH ISN'T A FINE SWISS TIMEPIECE!!!!!! It is MADE IN CHINA!!!! The only reason anyone will buy one is for the "I'm better than you becuase I have an Apple product" smug.
There are hundreds of smartwatches available in China and Taiwan that not only look better but are far cheaper. Sure they might not have a "retina" display, but for $50 you can buy ten for what you pay for an iWatch. The iWatch is made in China using Chinese components, these watches are made in China using Chinese componets.
This looks better than the iWatch and it's $50

In terms of real products that are actually very good, here's a list.

The Amzing thing about most of the Chinese smartwatches is that they have SIM slots making them a true phone. You aren't going to get 4G service but many of them work on AT&T and T-Mobile. Sorry Verizon suckers Big Red doesn't want anyhting to work on thier netowrk unless they say so.
Oh and I forgot. If you want to see the future of Smartwatches check out Omate and you can buy them direct from them as well so you don't need to worry about sketchy Chinese resellers.

I bought an Omate Roma when I was in China for $120. People freak out when I tell them I only paid $120 for the thing. The only problem is that because of Apple and the rest of the USA propaganda machine people believe that paying more for something means it is better quality than something that costs less.
I’m retired, and even my time is too valuable to waste it standing in line to get into an Apple Store for anything, especially a watch that will require 100 times the amount of time to charge the battery as it ever will telling me the time. Besides, I don’t mind waiting a month to see an Apple Watch on a street vendor card table, right next to his fake Rollex Watches and Duran Duran CD’s.
uh maybe because you can't actually get an iwatch yet? If you could walk out the door with one there would be lines. Still this is a add-on product to the phone, it will never be as popular as a phone release.
Those lines need to lead directly into C-130s, give these toolsheds a helmet and an AK, and fly them off to go fight ISIS.
The ones that live might learn something about the real world.
Janet Yellen will soon be the biggest purchaser. I hope she has a lot of outfits.
Now you know why Apple banned the queue outside their stores.
who needs an iWatch with battery life of 3 hours ?
this is surreal
I do like the irony of (even just a few) people lining up outside of a store hours before it opens to pre-order a time device.
This will be heralded as a huge success....and the next model will come out in 4 months....
Steve Jobs is laughing at the fool waiting in-line to buy a watch.
I would personally love to have a case of these watches. I would flip them to a bunch of shitheads on ebay and make a fortune.
I don't despise Apple, but this chap has a rather different perspective. I just coincidentally discovered it this morning. The whole verbose article will unnerve you from start to finish:
I Quit: What Really Goes on at Apple
http://roadlesstravelled.me/2015/04/06/why-steve-jobs-motivated-me-to-qu...
I don't know what drives these 20 sumthings to gush so effusely about their every life experience. This kid hasn't been around the block enough to realize that what he is describing is simply the experience of working in a global corporation - any global corporation. He will find that pouring coffees in thw local coffee shop doesn't pay as well and isn't any more freeing than a monster corporation. Not all creativity is created equally.
still so fucking moronic. watches come in 2 forms. timeless and disposable. everything else is either overpriced or has some sort of sentimental value.
this is disposable crap being sold as if it were timeless, whoever actually pays money for one is a fucking retard.
What a joke. Can't even buy the thing. Apple really needs as many impulse buyers as possible for this piece of shit. By the time the stupid watch arrives Apple will lose some of those buyers as bad reviews pile up and idiot consumers turn their attention elsewhere.
Bullish!
Talk of the Apple Watch several months ago made me think about getting a new watch.
So I bought the Suunto Core Sport Watch, All Black from Amazon.
You know, the one used by Denzel Washington in The Equalizer.
Thanks, Apple for reminding me that I needed an upgrade from my $30 Timex IRONMAN.
To me, it looks cheap and nasty, even the $billion gold edition. Factor in the need for the iPhony cellphone, and it's a no-go.
Fanboys will eat them up however. My son-in-law has already budgeted for one.
-- I want that optional three pound pocket charger to go with my new iWatch. I can keep it charged during my jogging sessions so I can time myself better.
Rating agency also considering awarding “Investment Grade” to other long term storages of wealth such as Nokia phones and cars made in Mexico.

Swatch!
"invent" and they will come.
If you can't afford it, there is the pocketwatch alternative. Check it out at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0wdW-PEsNQ
More gadgets to distract from the fact tht half the U.S. population is poor, illiterate, and living in trailer parks.
Toy watch for gay 6 year old retard - Cook is an iDiot
It was online sales only. There were no in-store sales, or even models in the store for people to look at, so there's no reason for people to line up at the store.
Did they set it up that way to hide the failure?
Timex Indiglo is hard to beat....
cheap
durable (bordering on indestructible)
accurate
battery lasts for years
I was gifted one 4 years ago. I've been wearing it everyday since, have yet to change the battery. Don't think I'll be buying another watch until this one gets lost or stolen.
