Europe Will Be Very Angry When It Learns Greece Is About To Buy Russian Anti-Aircraft Missiles
Just days after Russia lifted sanctions on providing anti-aircraft missiles to Iran, Reuters reports that The Greeks are in talks with Russia to purchase missiles for the S-300 defense system. Greece, a NATO member, has been in possession of the advanced Russian-made systems since the late 1990s and in a defiant show of independence towards Troika, is now negotiating with Russia for the purchase of additional missiles and for their maintenance.
Greece is negotiating with Russia for the purchase of missiles for its S-300 anti-missile systems and for their maintenance, Russia's RIA news agency quoted Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos as saying on Wednesday.
The report followed a visit by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras last week to Moscow, where he won pledges of Russian moral support and long-term cooperation but no fresh funds to help avert bankruptcy for his heavily indebted nation.
NATO member Greece has been in possession of the Russian-made S-300 air defense systems since the late 1990s.
"We are limiting ourselves to replacement of missiles (for the systems)," RIA quoted Kammenos, who is in Moscow for a security conference, as saying.
"There are negotiations between Russia and Greece on the maintenance of the systems ... as well as for the purchase of new missiles for the S-300 systems," he said.
The Greek defense ministry in Athens later issued a statement quoting Kammenos as saying: "The existing defense cooperation programs will continue. There will be maintenance for the existing programs."

Two questions spring to mind:
1. Where is Greece - which is scratching around for every penny to repay The IMF - going to find the cash to pay for these missiles? We suspect the answer will be a loan from Russia (perhaps for more than the cost) as a roundabout way to provide Tsipras with funds upfront... and
2. Will The ECB accept new missiles as collateral? We suspect no...

Perhaps, given Juncker's call for an EU Army, Greece is deciding it needs to strengthen its defenses from its Union counterparts?

Hey, at least the greeks will get something fucking real this time (not just more DEBT)...
fucking surreal shit going on in the world today.
nice way to deal with the cartel when they come a knockin' about why they were kicked to the curb
Rumor is they are buying them to donate to the rebels in the Donbass... (Someone please stop the insanity)
I'll bet those things don't miss too often.
They are only effective if a "McCain" is the pilot.
Wanna bet your personal ass on that ?
The Greeks - ie, NATO - have had access to the S-300 missile system since the late '90s?
Stupid fucking Persians, this system will have been reverse-engineered 12 ways to Sunday by now.
No wonder the Syrians keep getting shit - in Damascus! - regularly blown up by Israel despite their Russian air 'defence' systems.
What a fucking joke.
Syrians don't have it. And some things cannot be reversed engineered, especially if you don't have the original design specifications.
Name something that cannot be reverse engineered if you have a true copy of it-- and the technical ability to match the original parts specifications.
This is why stolen US plans come out as inferior Soviet/Russian copies ten years later. They don't have the industrial plant to produce a true copy so they have to create the closest possible match with what they can actually make.
You talk bullshit, which is a sure sign that you know nothing about this subject. Give me one example of inferior Russian copy of a magnificent US product, or shut up !
syrian s-300 were first generation sams which they had since 1960s . israel did not find it difficult to neutralize . btw israeli defence system is also not trustworthy and reliable . iron dome is good against mortar and home made rockets . Joke is on you know
Personally, I haven't heard of any enemy aircraft getting through to Israel. Have you?
I read of Greece and was torn,
but then they started up with missile porn.
Lots more money from the people's pocket,
and nobody is going to use this stupid rocket.
Now maybe the whole Med can go on "alert" !
They're okay at shooting down Russian made planes and civilian airliners, if that is the question. Don't know if this particular system has ever tallied a score on the USAF.
Regardless of whether it has or has not, however, the USAF has rung the bell a lot on Russian export-model SAMs. Probably something like 500-2 or something in that range.
Long live the Wild Weasels.
You have no fucking idea what you're talking about, and it shows. You know you can avoid looking stupid by keeping quiet, don't you ? Wild Weasel is a spent concept ever since Vietnam and Yom Kippur wars. Nowaday a Stinger can take down a low flying "weasel", to say nothing about more advanced missiles. Sleep tight, and dream well ! Here's an idea for your dreams though: imagine how F-35 would perform as a SAM radar hunter, 'cause that's the future in USAF's immaculate vision...
I hate to say it but the F35 is the F-111 of the 21st century.
One airplane design for the Marines, Air Force and Navy.
Since the Marines would not do without the vertical take off and landing feature the fuselage had to be made wide to accomodate the lift fans. This produces a lot of drag which penalizes the Air Force and Navy variants that don't need the lift fans.
Besides, manned fighters are obsolete. Any well designed unmanned fighter would find the F35 like "shooting fish in a barrel"
Our generals just keep fighting the last war.
An F-117A was shot down over Yugoslavia with a S-125 Neva/Pechora (NATO reporting name SA-3 Goa),
but this is obviously a different missile system entirely.
That's foolish. In every possible way that is foolish. Why make a comment that is pure drivel?
Don't worry, they're "For Research purposes only".
They'll be studied and tested in detail by IDF specialists. But the (Useful Fools) Greeks will stick be stuck with the Bill. Bibi is doing a 'ROTF LMAO'.
Ha, you beat me to it by 2 minutes!
But they've already had them since the late 1990's... so all the study and testing has already been done.
But not by the IDF. American technologists will have done all the dirty work, then some dual-passport 'patriot' back in DC will have forwarded all the findings to their handlers in Haifa.
Where the fuck did they get the money for this?
Nevermind.
Putin Acceptance Credit Corporation.
"Putin Acceptance Credit Corporation"
The Greeks will get 2 point rewards for every Euro they spend with the Putin Credit Card!!
Everything was o.k., as long as they bought German tanks and subs.
I'm making over $7k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life. This is what I do... www.globe-report.com
Great! Soon you will be able to afford the S-300. Straddle one, hold on tight and launch!
Don't mess with Greece.
You can get away with stealing everything in sight sure...but being a rich banker xenos in Greece will always result in extra "white sauce" in your food.
and therein lies true victory!
Aww dats just nasty.
sneaky tzatziki
This is a step in the right direction for Greece. Now they'll have jobs for all their youth... namely war.
Looks like they expect some debt collectors to come knocking on their door soon.
How exactly can Greece afford this shit? Greeks it is time to raise up and do the 300 thing against your socialitst douchebag leaders. Oh wait most of you are on the government dole so you don't want to. Got it.
Lulz, you got 6 downvotes!
Presumably we're only allowed to criticise Western MIC pork around here nowadays.
It's called vendor financing.
Carly Fiorina rode vendor financing to riches.
Spoken like a true X-HPer
Greece will use them to threaten the EU.
Who does Greece think they are, America.
I thought they were ready to default and besides aren't these systems administered by NATO not the Greek military? So who the fuck is really paying for these missiles then and why?
If I didn't know any better I'd be under the impression someone is using the Obama administration's idea of gun control by having the DHS buy up all the bullets to dry up the supply of missiles for these so Iran can't buy any if that is the case and it is not a purchase order for something else being taken out of context.
US has refused to stop its plan from deploying their missile shields in Europe . Expect retaliation . Russia should back out from INF Treaty just lile US backed out from ABM Treaty . Piss them back :)
Russia has already broken out of INF and START regardless of whether they have formally notified the other high contracting parties.
And the USA has broken any treaty they signed .There is a long list that starts with American Indians tribes and continues today .
Only one double question: are Russian SAM batteries better or worse then US ones? Against Russian or American planes?
Dice or a loaded russian roulete six shooter? You feel lucky? Well do ya??
Depends on the side the exporter is on. All export systems are backdoored by the vendor. If you think you will send an S300 against a Russian plane or a Tomahawk against a US target think again.
ya you'd think that but.....the folks that run our govt and military industrial complex think about 2 seconds into the future.
they do, but the wrong future
Russian SAMs are the best in the world, and it's been like that for the last 20 years. That been said, it's very hard for an aircraft (regardless of its generation, or its avoiding systems) to escape a modern SAM. A plane can get lucky once, or maybe twice at most, but in the end it will get shoot down in a matter of minutes...
Where do you guys come up with this imaginary stuff?
So far as I can recall, maybe one or two US-made aircraft have been lost to Russian SAM batteries since 1980. One in Yugoslavia and one in the first Iraq war.
And zero planes lost in air-to-air combat. The last true war between US and Russian planes in the skies over Syria in 1973 ended up 79-1.
And yes, in this case, Russia is the number 1.
When was the last time US fought a serious country, you moron ? I know we can bomb towel heads and such, but try Russia or China and see what happens. Also, you might want to re-check you info about the Yom Kippur war in which the Israelis lost at least 102 aircraft (by their own admisson, 387 if you believe the Egyptians) to both dog fight and SAMs. Google is your friend, as always...
Actually, Google is part of the US MIC and so probably not anyone's "friend". The search results are decent sometimes. Duckduckgo is more of a friend but not as good at providing the best results.
Sigh
During the cold war it was estimated that pilots would have a 1 in 10 chance of surviving their first 10 missions during a major conflict. I don't think it will be any better now.
The plane shot down over Yugoslavia that you mentioned was a F-117, a stealth plane. The Serbs apologized for shooting down the plane. They said they did not know it was invisible...
Serbia of course was bombed to pieces. NATO expected the conflict to last 48 hours but it lasted 78 days and Milosevic only gave in after civilian targets were purposely destroyed. A war crime but of course nobody ended up in court for that.
Good question. Despite what all the armchair generals might claim, we won't know until it happens.
US Mil against Iraq or similar not a fair comparison. Russia Mil against Georgia or similar not a fair comparison. The big guys always have the latest and greatest and they train for real because they know they might really have to fight. The 3rd worlders, not so much.
Greece had these systems since the late 1990s. All they are negotiating right now is the maintenance contract.
So they took delivery?
Yeah 1996-7 something.
what with mad dog soros and his boss rothschild murder inc.
what with jewish agent erdogan turk pimp live organ dealer looking for another local country to dismember.
what with isis training on the turk nato incirlik base
dem greeks gonna need a lot of missiles and some old school kgb fsb ivan muscle.
if they think they can get away without payin the talmoodick yahudi
Can you kill a flying jihadi with one of those things? No, but probably a handful of indigent retirees.
Indigent, my favorite flavor.
They'll need them
Each S-300 missile costs only $800,000-900,000.
Each US B-2 bomber costs $2,000,000,000 and can easily be shot down using one S-300 missile.
Hasn't happened yet, so how can you make such a flat assertion?
The Greeks have been wary of Italians (like Draghi) since 146 B.C. when Lucius Mummius Achaicus defeated the Greeks at the Battle of Corinth. Mummius entered Corinth after a victory over the defending forces. All the men of Corinth were put to the sword, the women and children were sold into slavery, and the statues, paintings and works of art were seized and shipped to Rome. Corinth was then reduced to ashes.
History may not repeat, but it sure does rhyme -- as recently several Greek men have burned themselves alive, the rest of the Greek citizens have been sold into debt slavery, everything of value in Greece is being confiscated by the IMF and other debt holders, and Greece will be left in ashes if it stays in the ECB.
Fuck the U.S. MIC.
they only work on NATO planes and not Russian ones... heheheheheh , If Russia builds them... perhaps they know a way around them
They might accept the new missiles as collateral. It depends on how they are delivered. If the pointy end is first, then they won't have much choice.
Is that why RSX was up today? Something smells rotten, like dead fish.
Keep stacking and prepping.
"Colin Powell, your shit show is needed again. Please report to the UN and pencil in GREECE into your presentation where is says IRAQ and HUSSEIN now. Now get Paul Bremer on the phone."
The banksters need to repay us.
I also heard that Greece is throwing babies from incubators, and that the 19 were really Greeks, not Saudis.
false flag as a jet hits a Bakalava factory
and why wouldn't Greece and especially Russia want the S-300 protecting the new Russian military and naval bases which the Russians are in negotiations with the Greeks for as well as long term leases for theml?
If I were Putin, I would be paranoid about being protected by a missile defense system made in California and which prolly has a back door entrance to let all sorts of greasy NATO dicks in.
"Europe Will Be Very Angry"
The Global Gangbangkster ZWO Financial Oligarchy will be very angry.
Fixed.
Next they are buying Russian rockets which can reach Mario's new palace.
Because what goes better with Ouzu than a surface to air missile system?
with enough ouzo you don't need a missile system. lol
Watch "The Mouse That Roared".
Greece is stealing the script.
finally, some great news!
Poor Greece. Missles are a waste of money or bad debt. These missiles are useless. Their enimy is internal corruption and entitelments. No one but illegal immigrants from pakistan plan on invading Greece.
I downvoted you because you didn't say something to encourage missile porn.
Vendor financing.
Not unusual. It was reported in 2012 Greece was buying large amounts of arms:
"German 'hypocrisy' over Greek military spending has critics up in arms"
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/apr/19/greece-military-spending-de...
One can wonder... are they turning around and selling them to people they shouldn't for fast cash? Or what are they doing with these weapons?
Point them at the plane that flies in the Troika..sorry..."institutes".
Point them! Make certain they are "pointed" exactly towards the intended target otherwise they will miss!
These thngs can track and destroy tiny, highly agile aircraft capable of flying faster than the spped of sound and they need to be "pointed"?
They, like a very high % of military equipment will become obsolete and rust. As long as the money is flowing and people buy into this crap....hey why not? They got a good gig going.
Missile porn baby!
they already have the missile systems.
it ain't much good w/o missiles.
what kind of headline is this?
word mongering
apparently they are buying S300 to protect their assets from angry creditors after greece declares default
In the Virual World of debt renegotiation and internet commentary, Europe might appear unhappy with this news. In reality, Europeans are in the range between approval and ambivilence. After all, a country left undefended will hardly be able to service it's debt, and Greece is in no position to pay the prices of Nato equipment.
What are they going to pay them with? Feta cheese, olives and Ouzo?
