Sand-nado - Beijing Battered By Blanket Of Red Dust

Tyler Durden's picture

In yet another ripped from the movies-screen-esque event, Beijing was brought to a standstill today as a massive Interstellar-like sandstorm covered the Chinese capital in thick blanket of red dust, sparking social media discussions of the end of the world. As RT reports, The China Meteorological Administration issued a yellow sandstorm alert – the third-most serious danger level, which given the images below, makes us wonder just WTF it takes to get to a level 1 sandstorm...

Stunning!! In a city of 21 million people...

As RT reports, Some areas in the city of 21 million recorded air pollution of nearly 1,000 micrograms per cubic meter, which is considered hazardous for people’s health.

Beijing residents had to wear face masks and goggles to protect themselves from the red sand and avoid injury and respiratory problems.

The bad visibility seriously disrupted traffic, causing large traffic jams all over the capital.

Chinese internet users were quick to label the weather phenomenon ‘Sand-ageddon,’ comparing it to the end of the world.

“It’s very dirty, I feel like it is the end of the world,” one of the users was cited by South China Morning Post.

While another person on social networks wrote that “it feels like we are living in a desert. I wonder how we can survive such bad weather.”

Despite being far from the red danger level, Wednesday’s sand storm was the strongest in the Chinese capital in 13 years.

Besides Beijing, 11 other provinces in the north of the country were impacted by the storm, which led to electricity blackouts and chaos on the roads.

Sandstorms are a common event in China in the spring, with the dust originating from the outer edge of deserts in Mongolia, northern China and the Hexi Corridor.

Beijing is considered among the most polluted cities in the planet, with environmental watchdog Chinese Hazardous saying on Thursday that air particles, which cause asthma and breathing problems, were more than double the national target in the capital.

You have to give the Chinese some credit.  They've planted trees over hundreds of square miles of desert to try to stop the advance of the Gobi.

I saw sand storms like this when we were in the Saudi desert during Desert Storm but we were in a fucking desert!!! China is becoming the most polluted country on earth and they sign all the agreements on pollution, get applauded by all the feel good eco-weenies, but go right on destroying themselves because their latest five year plan demands it.....

So, let me see if I have this right..

If one of our members (some that have contributed greatly for many years) makes an off comment about a hyper-sensitive group of people they are banned, and all traces of them are removed from the system.

If you are an obnoxious spamming jackass, you are allowed to stay and peddle your crap here with no consequences.

Just great.

Well ~ I'm kinda thinking...  [vis-a-vis] Across Dimensional Gravity... [u kno ~ of the 'Luciferian' type]

These models suggest that whilst most particles emitted in our 3-brane stay confined to it, gravitons can escape... If they were able to radiate off arbitrarily far away, that would mean the strength of the gravitational force would fall off with the cube of distance rather than the square as we observe [based, without elaboration, on our dimensional limitations]...

OTOH ~ Others may be thinking along the lines of 'kissing orgasms' & 'home schooling'...

U just NEVER kno...

I gave a paramour one of those kissing orgasms once...

Her huge breasts heaved and shuddered in the most unbelievable way.  I was sure that I was finally gonna get into those tights in just a few moments...  I sucked on her tongue even harder as she arched her back and...

...then she threw up in my mouth.

She cackled and clucked like a weird old hen while apologizing -and admitted that she had just had a huge juicy oxygen deprivation enhanced orgasm.

I made point of entering her from behind when we started actually having sex regularly.

I think she knew why...

& now... NAURALLY... I'll allow EVERY READER to decide 4 themselves whether [or NOT], 'kissing orgasms' may or may not be the PANACEA [Notwithstanding the 'homely/granny' COEFFICIENT MULTIPLE]......

A lesser known story is the last years unprecidented heat all across Russia, from Europe to the Far East, Siberia in particular. Heat records beat any since records began. The latest news are the massive fire storms sweeping Siberia. 33 people died in the last days and 450 homes burned to the ground. People drove through flaming forests trying to escape, most made it, some did not. These fires come 100 days before the normal fire season in Siberia. Last year the northern tundra burned, two years ago Siberia burned, a year before European Russia burned. However you cut it, early snow melt, drought, wind, and heat followed by more heat, and the fires rage on. Parts of Siberia posted 2C above average last year. Parts of Siberia 5-7C above average.

Thank you. Isn't it boring when people made implications just because a person does read outside the US Media circle. The Siberian Times is a good little newspaper, with an online edition in English. There was a number of extensive stories and first hand accounts of these fires in the last edition. So yes, some of us on ZH do read.

The troll makes a one or two line shot and then runs away. Notics his post, said nothing, implied something, and ran away to hide. Trolls are called trolls because they are pathetic creatures.

It won't take that long.  Central Valley already blows.

Here in the Desert, we're already seeing dust, it's usually still a bit damp (relatively) from winter snow/rain.  We didn't get much this time.  Dirt parking lot where I work has been scoured to caliche.  Heavier rock/sand clumped by the wind and shiny clean with all the dust blown off.  It's kind of eerie looking if you're paying attention.

And it's not that we've had 60 mph winds, which are typical, I don't think the gusts have gotten over 30.

What will happen is all the dust blown in one direction will settle.  The the winds will reverse and send our dust back, along with new dust from some other part of the desert.  In the meantime we'll have the ground ready to send new dust just from people walking and driving.  (Lot's do motorcycles, dune buggies, plenty of dirt roads here, etc.)  The dust will blow back and forth building up in proportion until we send it all down Cajon Pass, via Santa Ana Winds, in a Haboob to Hollywood.

My perspective of the desert comes from pictures and film. Every time I read a description of the desert I am reminded that I have never actually managed to travel that far south. I'm into car culture too and Arizona is great for southern tin. If I ever win the lottery I will tour through that region. Cajon Pass sounds pretty cool. Did John Wayne

Over two and a half years, every opportunity I got, I was on walkabout all over souther CA deserts and chapparal.  Irrespective the time, temperature, conditions, I was lost out in it.  One thing I got to take from it was being confronted with inhospitible condition and direct realizations of what it would mean to exist there without the benefits/trappings of modern technoculture.  To find at a mile high, surrounded by cacti and yuccas, no water in sight, shade only under a rock, a single single maturing gourd on a filament of green squash plant.  Sand polished landscapes, with spikes [cholla luv yu long time baybe!], dead quiet nights under the canopy ... priceless.

Yes, the Gobi.  I'm glad someone finally mentioned it.  There used to be camel caravans into the city from up north.  My mother-in-law grew up in Beijing in the 1940's and saw camels in the streets of the city commonly.  I myself have seen camels raised as pets on the outskirts of the city, sort of like how they raise Llamas in the Sierra foothills in California.
