Meet Zhang Shuang - Cliff-Cleaning Litter-Collector...
Cleaner Zhang Shuang collects litter dropped by tourists on the cliff of Laojun Mountain, 2,000 meters above sea level, in Luoyang, Central China’s Hunan province.
Zhang Shuang risks his life to abseil down the cliff every three to five days for the past eight years as a cleaner. He calls for tourists to stop littering and polluting the environment.
...And all that for less than US minimum wage?

This cliff cleaner accomplishes more than the entire race of chinese politicians. He cleans up garbage, whereas politicians merely spread it around, forcing you to pay to the non privilege.

I was talking to an accountant yesterday on my way back here from Xiaoguobei. She makes much less than US minimum wage. The best paid workers in China now seem to be hard physical labour--farming and shipping. People who work with their brains get very little. No idea how much HFT programmers over here make.
Teachers (Chinese teachers, that is) get paid very little. They normally have to live in dorms in the school and have roommates. Once a month or so the water to the dorms gets shut off for a few days. Foreign teachers, of course, get paid reasonably well (not as much as in NAm, but expenses are much, much lower). Professors in Chinese universities start off at a little over $1000 (US) per month.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I'm probably one of the few on here that can say they've done comparible dangerous/shitty work in my time........in the US. Of course I was paid well for it. Height is relative.......anything over 30' your dead anyway. Of course, most deaths occur off of 5' ladders. Either from being impailed, breaking neck etc. Granted they don't tell you there's 50 million people on a 5' ladder everyday...............and only one sorry ass mofo hanging off the side of a mountain lmao. Poor bastard. I definetely don't miss being an acrobat.

Don't be so sure about that, I and many of the people here have worked as laborers/tradesmen. One thing I can tell you is laborers in the US, perhaps save a few roofers in Phoenix, have it made in the shade compared to Chinese laborer. I don't think people appreciate what your typical Chinese laborer has to endure on a daily basis ..
Oh i'm sure, but to be dangling from heights is something a lot of laborers don't get the chance of trying. Not that it's good lol. Other than that........these people get ZERO respect from many in the US as well. For instance my nurse practioner sisternlaw who exclaims "can you do that for me? I would, but I don't have the strength. That's all building stuff is". Stupid fucking bitch. If it weren't for people like me, people like her would be living in grass fucking huts.

My daughter, 27, straight A student, two advanced degrees, makes $1000 per semester teaching two 3 unit classes at a public univeristy.
She is too petite to do physical labor.
Welcome to America.
Perhaps she should explore other career opportunities.

Luoyang is NOT in Hunan, it's in Henan. Great journalism there... A city of 6.5~7 million people and no clue where it even is. Good job there.
