Beatriz Paez says she was doing nothing wrong taking video of U.S. Marshal executing warrants on San Juan Avenue Sunday. She saw people in handcuffs. “Around 8 people including women were held at gunpoint on their stomachs with their hands held behind their back,” says Paez.
But, when one marshal saw her recording, “He told me that I had to go. And, I told him I had the right to film and he said I was interfering with their investigation and I told them that I was on a public sidewalk and I had the right to film them.”
...the courts have consistently held that the First Amendment protects citizens' right to record the police when they're on the job. The police can't stop you unless you're interfering with their work -- and they can't take away your smart phone or delete the recordings just because you took video.
Police need a warrant to mess with the content of your cell phone.

From my viewing of the video, I would think the US Marshall in question could be charged criminally for Assault and Battery, since he physically touched the woman, when he jerked the phone away from her. He could also be charged with violating her right to film... not sure of the exact clause, but it was certainly violated. The, on the Civil side of things, he, and the US Marshalls service, are open to lawsuits for his actions. You would think that US Marshalls would be very well versed in the laws, especially when it comes to being filmed. Career over, but that is choice he made.

Contact: March 11, 2015 USMS Office of Public Affairs (202) 307-9065 Deputy U.S. Marshal Killed in the Line of DutyWashington – Deputy U.S. Marshal Josie Wells died from a gunshot wound received in the line of duty in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, March 10. Wells, 27, a native of Mississippi had been with the U.S. Marshals Service since January 2011.
Wells was part of a team executing arrest warrants on a fugitive wanted for double homicide in Baton Rouge. The team engaged in gunfire with the fugitive and Wells was shot. He was immediately transported to Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary, Louisiana, where he died.
The fugitive, Jamie Croom, was also shot and transported to a local hospital where he later died.
“Our deputies and law enforcement partners face untold dangers every day in the pursuit of justice in cities nationwide,” said Director Stacia A. Hylton. “The fugitive who killed Deputy Wells was extremely dangerous, wanted for double homicide and intentionally evaded justice.”
Hylton added, “When a public servant dies in the line of duty, it is an immeasurable tragedy felt by all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Wells’ family, friends and colleagues.”
The shooting investigation is being conducted by FBI and the Baton Rouge Police Departmen
Of course it was a US Marshall that gunned down 12 y/o Sammy Weaver and his dog at Ruby Ridge. The Deputies left the dog in the field and made a rut in its body out of contempt for the besieged. The Deputies harrased a local restaurant owner, Swiss, who had prepared meals for Bo Gritz and the survivors of the Weaver family while they negotiated to the extent that the restaurant owner committed suicide.

Judicial Security

Asset Forfeiture
-The Department of Justice Asset Forfeiture Program is a key component of the federal government’s
law enforcement efforts to combat major criminal activity by disrupting and dismantling illegal
enterprises, depriving criminals of the proceeds of illegal activity, deterring crime and restoring
property to victims.
-The U.S. Marshals Service plays a critical role in identifying and evaluating assets that represent the
proceeds of crime as well as efficiently managing and selling assets seized and forfeited by DOJ.
-Proceeds generated from asset sales are used to operate the AFP, compensate victims and support
various law enforcement and community initiatives.
-The Marshals Service manages a wide array of assets, including real estate, commercial businesses,
cash, financial instruments, vehicles, jewelry, art, antiques, collectibles, vessels and aircraft.
Prisoner Operations
-The U.S. Marshals Service is responsible for the safe and humane custody of more than 203,000
federal prisoners annually, beginning at the time of arrest and ending when prisoners are acquitted,
arrive at a designated Federal Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a sentence or are otherwise
ordered released from Marshals custody.
-The agency provides housing, medical care and transportation for an average daily population of
about 55,000 federal prisoners throughout the U.S.
-The Marshals Service brings all individuals arrested on federal offenses before a U.S. magistrate or

Prisoner Transportation

-JPATS is one of the largest transporters of prisoners in the world — handling 1,070 movements per
day on average.
-JPATS transports prisoners in federal custody between federal judicial districts to hearings, court
appearances and detention facilities.
-JPATS operates a network of aircraft, cars, vans and buses to accomplish these coordinated
movements.
-JPATS operates a fleet of aircraft to move prisoners over long distances more economically and with
higher security than commercial airlines.

Witness Security
