"Plan B"
Submitted by Simon Black via Sovereign Man blog,
In May 1788, Thomas Jefferson wrote one of the most prescient statements of his career:
“The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground.”
Jefferson was living in Paris at the time serving as the Minister to France at a time when the United States was still in its infancy.
It was during this period that France descended into violent revolution. And Jefferson had a front row seat to witness it.
France’s reversal of fortune was legendary; only a few years before they were the largest superpower in the world and had helped the US gain independence.
Yet not even a decade later, Jefferson watched as French peasants stormed the Bastille in 1789 and entered a 26-year period of chaos.
He wrote extensively on the subject, and it clearly influenced his thinking on politics.
For example, one of Jefferson’s chief concerns was that the US Constitution did not limit the number of terms someone could serve as US president.
To Jefferson, a president serving for multiple terms was tantamount to a monarchy.
It has certainly turned out that way. Particularly as the next US election may shape up to be a contest between the House of Bush and the House of Clinton.
True to Jefferson’s words, liberty has yielded in the Land of the Free… and most of the West for that matter.
Governments regulate what we can and cannot put in our bodies, and how we are allowed to raise our own children.
They have awarded totalitarian control of the economy and money supply to an unelected central banking elite, which have in turn created epic bubbles in nearly every major financial market on the planet.
Interest rates are negative. Bank balance sheets are in pitiful condition. Capital controls are being rolled out. Debt levels are exploding. Pension funds are insolvent.
Ask yourself– where do you think this is going? Do you really think your home country will be more free and more prosperous in five years?
If not, it’s time to come up with a Plan B:
1) Don’t Panic. This is good news.
The world isn’t coming to an end. It’s changing. And this will unlock some of the most exciting opportunities we’ve ever seen.
Remember, some of the wealthiest families in Europe were wiped out in the 1920s because they were living in Germany and didn’t see hyperinflation coming.
Others who saw the writing on the wall built generational wealth in just a few years.
That’s the same opportunity we have now.
2) If your banking system is highly illiquid, switch banking systems.
Today, most banks in the West hold as little as 3% of their customers’ deposits; the rest is gambled away in the markets or loaned to bankrupt governments at negative interest.
There’s absolutely no sense in keeping your money trapped in a banking system that treats you like a milk cow.
It’s 2015. Technology makes it possible to transfer money across the world with just a mouse click.
So there’s no reason to choose a bank simply because it’s a short drive from your house. Geography is irrelevant.
Instead, choose a bank because it has strong financial fundamentals and plentiful liquidity reserves.
This tends to be the case in Asia (places like Hong Kong and Singapore) where in some cases you can open a bank account and move a portion of your savings overseas without leaving the house.
3) If your currency has pitiful fundamentals, switch currencies.
It’s not exactly a profound assertion these days to point out that the US dollar is a disaster.
Its issuing authority, the Federal Reserve, is nearly insolvent. And the government backing it up is totally insolvent.
One option I’d recommend is to consider holding the Hong Kong dollar instead.
The Hong Kong dollar is pegged to the US dollar at a rate of 7.80 per USD +/- a very narrow band.
This means that the value of your savings won’t fluctuate very much in USD terms. If the dollar remains strong, the HKD will remain strong.
But if the US dollar experiences a painful collapse, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority could simply revalue the exchange rate. This gives you quite a bit of downside protection.
4) If your home government is totally bankrupt, don’t keep all of your assets there.
Consider owning real assets that are not located in your home country. You can store gold and silver in Singapore at a place like Silver Bullion.
Or own cash-producing real estate in a rising South American nation like Panama, Colombia, or Chile.
5) If you find that your home country is less free, find freedom somewhere else.
Again, geography is totally irrelevant in 2015. You no longer have to live in a place simply because your boss or customers live there too.
It’s still possible to find freedom in the world. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, but your slice is out there somewhere.
At a minimum, apply for a passport and travel a bit. You’ll find that the rest of the world actually does have running water and doesn’t look like a Feed the Children commercial.
Find a place that you would be happy spending more time, and even better, obtain residency there.
You won’t be worse off for doing this. But if things ever get so bad that you decide it’s time to get out of Dodge, you’ll already know exactly where to go.

Would you like a virtual beer with that?
Oh, it's a Simon Black article.
I already know his advice: Peruvian farms...
Yup total horseshit and says nada.....watta tool.....yeah good luck with that "mouseclick" transfer of your money you total moron.....wtf are u kiddin'?
< Probably true
< Probably not
"Wonkette reports a bizarre story. The Bush Family has purchased a 98,840 acre ranch through a secretive land trust in Paraguay. The ranch, which is close to the Brazillian and Bolivean border is also located in proximity to natural gas reserves and a large water reserve.
I wonder why the Bushes are quietly purchasing land in Paraguay...where Simon Weisenthal famously hunted down Nazi fugitives? But the story gets wierder.
Read on."

Other articles say the area is infested with former Nazis and since Paraguay hs no extradition treaty well... just thought I'd ask the tinfoil set.
P.S. Colorful annual Nazi festival... weather looks fanastic!

FWIW: I believe the Bush family had ties to Paragauy for a very long time. Google "Prescott Bush" and Paraguay.
Close to where the borders of 3 countries meet... very handy if one is looking to have the option of making a quick getaway.
“The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground.”
- Thomas Jefferson
Is that THE Thomas Jefferson who took a loose interpretation of the Constitution to enable the Louisiana Purchase?
Too bad he couldn't understand his own words.
Plan B should be a Northern European country. Culture shock would be minimal. The closest you could get to the German language the easier it would be to learn (since English is essentially a low German dialect).
I would recommend;
- Germany
- Austria
- Switzerland
- Süd-Tirol in Italy
- Czech Republic
- Denmark
- Netherlands
- German & Flemmish parts of Belgium
- Sweden
- Norway
- Finland
- Western Parts of Poland
Although if you guys are looking for an international "bug-out" then Germany is the goal. Immigrating to Germany is pretty easy if you have a job here, without a job it is difficult for obvious reasons. Farmers from the US would have it easiest.
Especially the farmers who already know how to operate a Fendt Vario ; )
Paraguay would be a good place to hide out if the N Hemisphere starts lobbing nukes at one another. Almost as if the Bushes were tipped off in advanced.
Paraguay would be a good place to hide out if the N Hemisphere if you have your own private army if starts lobbing nukes at one another. Almost as if the Bushes were tipped off in advanced.
Fixed that for you. If you think they will call you Senior and make you margherita after the USD ceases to be king -- you are being naïve.
I don't know if the shrubs bought any land down there, but I'm growing skeptical of claims "former Nazi" being anywhere. Here's why: My Uncle James joined the US Navy on December 8, 1941. Yeah, that'd be the day after. He proceeded to man a 20mm ack-ack the rest of the war and shoot down Japanese planes. He came back, raised a family, saw grandkids and some great-grandkids, and died a few years back. He was 17 when the war started. Wouldn't you figure those Nazis of WWII have mostly died off too?
Tribute time: James rarely spoke about the horrors he saw or blamed the Japanese and when the war was over he some spent time in Japan. James stole food off the aircraft carrier he was on to give to the Japanese. His buddies ridiculed him mercilessly. He said 3 things to them in response:
1. The war is over.
2. These people are starving.
3. There goes, but for the grace of God, me.
Amen.
If the nazis are all dead then explain, in reverse order, Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, and 9/11. There are far more but this list should suffice.
Nazis as in the National Socialists of Hitler's era, but I suspect you knew what I was talking about.
The world is used up already
"Again, geography is totally irrelevant in 2015. You no longer have to live in a place simply because your boss or customers live there too."
I'll bet this advice goes over really well with hotel and restaurant owners, plumbers, electricians, doctors, mechanics, waitresses, baristas, lawyers,... in fact anyone in a service industry...
Please, Simon; think before you post...
"I'll bet this advice goes over really well with "
To add: I very much doubt Latin Americans will be too happy with Gringo. I am sure when the american economy collapses it will have a major impact in Latin America. I fear that make ex-Pats will end up victums of hate crimes and lynch mobs. Latin america has rarely been stable. There has always been waves of civil wars, violence, crime, and socialism. Moving to latin America is not an escape or safe haven.
Overall, I don't see any place the world that is a safe haven. Just about all nations have embraced socialism and nanny state styled gov't. At this point, the USA still remains the cleanest shirt in the hamper. You still have some rights left and you can still own guns, precious metals, and may other items that are banned or are very strickly controlled\regulated. Probably the best option for americans is to relocate to states that are more pro-liberty and less nanny statism. That said there is no perfect solution, or even good solution. It all pretty much sucks everywhere.
Hey Guy... We don't hold no personal grudges against Gringos if they're decent peoples... "I am sure...", "I fear...", etc. You don't fucking know what you're talking about! Un maricon like you would probably do something so stupid that you would deserve to be robbed! YOU Need a Fucking "nanny" to keep YOU from making troubles, Puto!
I bet you've never even been South of la frontera!
That is a good catch Poll Shark. A huge chunk of any economy revolves around SERIVCE to the people employed by the major employers. It is all connected.
"geography is totally irrelevant in 2015"...
Only a Fool would say that!
One would think Simon Black's target audience is the 1%. Funny how so many of them are actually responsible for the problems he is advocating solutions for.
Obviously you have never been to Peru...
(Sh) fixed it for you
Got a little cabin in the ky knob country along a river . That's my plan c
forget plans b & a then.
Fuck Plan B... What you ought to be worried about is Preparation H [illary]
Find a better currency? Can anybody name a national or supernational currency that isn't fiat? Maybe there is one somewhere, but I sure don't know about it.
Um,... how about, oh,... I don't know,... maybe,... GOLD?
What country uses gold as a currency? I'm sure you can find cases where it is used as an endrun around regulations/taxes/etc... but is any country on the gold standard?
Nope. We have, what, almost a hundred nations, all lashed together in the largest fiat experiment in history. When one CB goes down, they all go down.
SB's articles are often long the obvious and short anything insightful or useful. I presume he pays to get posted here at ZH and vacuums up funds from idiots that "need protecting".
In the past, because of the gold standard, individual countries could fail without really taking down other countries. That isn't the case today and there really isn't anywhere to run. I suspect this is by design - prepare for a one-world govy/currency.
Regards,
Cooter
Libya almost had a gold dinar.
Until, well, you know. Somebody didn't like that idea too much.
I think Malaysia has some sort of almost gold related currency.
But I'm moving to Colombia, the women are hot and I would be a billionaire there (in pesos that is)
And a double dose of silver for good measure
maybe - ammo?
1) Its changing in ways that are designed to freeze assets in their home country with punative taxes, registration, and confiscation. The new US IRS rules for off shore assets is just a taking of inventory of what is available for looting.
2) Banking is global, and liquidity is whatever the monitary issuing authority says it is. Anything that uses fractional reserve banking is technically illiquid, which is everyone.
3) Currency fundamentals are whatever the issuing monetary authorities say they are. All of them are sinking in value (neg interest in EU, inflation everywhere) or outright suicide (Argentina).
4) The US IRS is now keeping tabs on overseas wealth. Oceans are no shield anymore. When the fiddler want's their cut, it will take them - with the blessings the host country as long as they get a cut.
5) Only a select few high asset individuals have the opportunity to seek alternate residency. While there are many wonderful places in the world to hang your hat, only those with some significant assets could ever afford the earning gap to set themselves up in their new home - even if you are approved for a work visa. Also never underestimate countries to shit on foriegners within their borders, just like what happened to those Germans who got out of dodge with their assets before WWII, only to be stripped of everything and deported back.
There is no safe place to hide this time Simon. Problems are system wide, and there will be disruptions everywhere when it all burns.
"Problems are system wide, and there will be disruptions everywhere when it all burns."
I don't get why Simon doesn't get this. The only places where supply chains aren't global are third world. If you want to escape what's coming, you need to be living in a mud hut somewhere waaaay out of the way, growing your own food and making your own clothing.
Precisely.
Regards,
Cooter
There will be no escape. If the mob doesn't find you, the criminal class will.
He has subscriptions to sell, and a small minority of people may actually benefit from his services. The majority however are pretty much stuck unless you can score a work visa and land overseas gig for several years. Hope sells though.
Exactly, El Vaquero, the only way to survive is to be overtly isolated from civilization. Some Ivy League school recently crunched the numbers on survival if systemic breakdown occurs and they said that the Rocky Mountains was the best possible chance of survival given the tough terrain and wildlife to eat, as well as fresh water. The probability of survival is very slim for most, but some are bound to survive in pockets/enclaves. In CANADA, because of the sub-zero temp, one must hunt big game to survive, and all the big game will be shot up in the first season. Long term survival is dependent upon distance from civilization.
And when the SHTF, everyone will be running to the mountains because everyone knows this. Stupid is as stupid does.
There is nowhere habitable on this planet where you are not going to face local residents who don't want outsiders forcing their way in and competition for resources - unless you are already an accepted part of their community, or you have an army backing you, you don't stand a chance.
Yeah I recall that study. The showed pockets of the west holding out for four weeks. They didn't go past that time frame. So, best case, you have a month. Good luck.
Your comment is ok overall, but too general and inaccurate in its conclusion.
You don't have to be wealthy to have a Plan B. Just some 5 to 6 figure assets, a portable skill, some language skills and a willingness to start over.
Of course, having a second citizenship helps too. Especially if your Plan B involves "the old country". Unfortunately this excludes most exceptional folks in 'Merica.
In which case, Plan B means staying in USSA, and adapting, hoping and praying. Luckily, Americans are good at that.
Wait a minute... Didn't plan B come after the theft of the underwear? (Obscure reference)
Simon is just a doom porn huckster peddling his South American Fort Apache shtick.
I'll summarize all Simon's 'expert' advice for free - "Run away! Run away! Run away!"
Actually, it's more like "Pay me! Then run away!"
"Run away! Run away! Run away!"
No- That's what you say when you have an encounter with the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on:

Do you actually know how he makes his money? Clearly you don't, or you wouldn't be saying this. Are you a troll, or a jealous former military colleague who didn't get far? You sure sound like one.
FYI, aside from his own investments, he makes money off his newsletter subscriptions and by playing Mediator/Matchmaker between clients and various service providers.
He stopped talking about Chilean RE over a year ago, and someone else does that now.
Although I no longer subscribe to his Newsletter (no longer need what it offers), I've had a positive experience with the solutions available. But then I've been doing Simon-like things (offshore options) long before he came along.
The only thing that does trouble me about his suggestions, is that within a year or two of him calling a place 'great', than the USSA gets its claws into it. It's as though they let him be the Scout for free. Which is why, I suspect, he's done the smart thing and stopped trumpeting publicly.
I may have the numbers off a bit, but didn't the IRS audit less than 1% of all tax returns in the latest batch of statistics released, but audit 7% of those with assets and bank accounts abroad? Maybe it was living aborad with assets, either way...it would be a "cost of business" for his plan "B"
In May 1788, Thomas Jefferson wrote one of the most prescient statements of his career:
“The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground.”
Jefferson also wrote:
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission.
I have withdrawn my "consent" to the DC US, and I never consented to Zion.
Plan B is a diet of tree bark, leaves from trees, tree bark tea, gophers, rats, beavers, frogs, wild turkeys, fish, turtles, and anything else that can be eaten up by the Zombies looking for vermin to eat. Once the food distribution networks start drying up and the transportation hubs break down there will be nothing to eat except what's left in your neighbour's fridge/pantry. The Zombies will then start looking at country farms for food and the farmers will be inundated with hungry Zombies from the cities. All the dogs and cats will be eaten en masse.
Plan B, yeah right, eh.
Lack of drinkable water in the large population areas will kill/move people long before the food sources are used up. Less than a week and cities will be deserted except for pockets of .gov paid goons controlling water supplies. 3x3x3 rule = 3 minutes of air, 3 days of water, 3 weeks of food, or you are dead. Know how to filter and decontaminate water? Not many people do.
"wise words out of the mouths of fools often do bespeak" beyond the fringe Peter Cook
What a bunch of nonsense.
...and ZH wasn't even having a slow news day....
Where's the resident spammer?
Off Topic, no good home for this. But speaking of geography and todays largest potential conflict disaster. Consider Poland's strong support for Ukraine's war on their Eastern Provinces. An at war, and splitting apart Ukraine offers something for Poland. So stoking the war, the east west conflict, and strife inside Ukraine. Remember 1939 and the autumn when Hitler and Stalin settled Polands borders after it's summer defeat.
" The current Ukrainian government’s “support” by Poland is conditioned by Warsaw’s desire to catch a big “territorial” fish in the muddy waters of internal conflict in Ukraine. We are talking about nothing less than five entire regions of Western Ukraine. They are the Lvov, Ivano-Frankovsk, Tarnopol, Volyn, and Rovne Regions, which once used to be part of the Polish state.
These territories cannot be taken away as long as Ukraine is a strong, sovereign state. Therefore ask yourself a question—is Poland interested in the weakening of Ukraine? Yes. Is Poland interested in promoting lawlessness on Ukrainian lands? Very.'what an interesting post. Is this assumptive conjecture, or have you been reading Polish media outlets that are making such insinuations? Are these former areas of Poland, Polish speaking...culturally Pole, ect. Serious questions.
A picture's worth a thousand words.

I'm planning a long vacation to Mussoorie India. Went to Wyoming a few weeks ago to check out parcels of land and decided that the country is far too intertwined to be "away." Want to have a place for my kids to start life, if they choose to leave this country. The mountain regions of India are ex-pat British enclaves. We'll see how it works for us.
Good luck
Yes, do tell. Very interested to see how that goes.
Plan B: ECUADOR!

Plan B.
Erode all wealth starting from the bottom to the top and allow open market cannibalism and government crony capitalism to destroy the whores of Babylon and their money magic by forcing them to feed on each other to survive.
In turn each participant in the lie suffers greatly considering they perceive thyself to be losing much power and wealth because they are the ones who have the most invested.
This allows the innocent to watch the guilty burn as they realize their entire life's work is nothing but a lie and is destined to fail.
They can either sacrifice their own children and the future of all or fuck off and die.
Its only been 7 years since the bitch got fucked, she is a squirt-ahh or something like that haha.
"Others who saw the writing on the wall built generational wealth in just a few years."
Oh you mean like the Flicks who paid RM20,000 a month into the private account of Heinrich Himmler and built an industrial empire on slave labour and expropriated assets ? Or the Quandts who went from textile manufacturers to owners of BMW and Altana via the wife who ran off with Josef Goebbels and her ex-husband who acquired assets. Or do you mean Fritz Thyssen who hid his assets in companies fronted by Prescott Bush ? Or do you mean Grundig and Albrecht and Beisheim and lots of others who really did build up from nothing postwar ?
PLAN A: Never live in a country that considers you their citizen.
-----
Few people realize what enormous benefits one can realize by following this "plan A". If you follow "plan A", quite possibly you'll never need a "plan B"... or C, or D.
-----
But... never mind. I've come to understand that 99.99% want to be slaves, even most folks who consider themselves supporters of liberty. While they like to talk liberty, they refuse to take actions that will result in them enjoying increased liberty.
May I suggest - South America and Brazil. Permanent visa program is really good and considering strong USD, just 50.000 needed to qualify. And you can invest in productive farmland. Keywords - food and water. Both in abundant supply. Plus amazing beauty and good life supporting energy. Check it out: http://visa4brazil.com/
LOL. I must have missed the part where any bank in the rest of the world wants anything to do with any American citizen just so that they can deal with the tyrannical US's banking and tax laws. Open an account in another country? LOL. Good luck. And if I'm wrong, by all means let me know because I have tried and can't.
