Stolen Horse Chase Nets Suspect $650,000 Pay Day

Tyler Durden's picture

Earlier this month we brought you the story of Jared Pusok who San Bernardino Sheriff’s Deputies thought they were going to arrest April 9 on identity theft charges. Pusok had other ideas. After first fleeing by car, Pusok allegedly stole a horse (and we say “allegedly” only in terms of whether the horse was in fact stolen because as you can see from the video below, there is no doubt as to whether there was a horse involved) and led deputies on a two hour, wild west-style high speed horse chase through the desert. In the end, Pusok was removed from the saddle via taser and once on the ground, appeared to suffer a brutal beating by authorities. Here is the scene:

Pusok faced several charges including resisting arrest, attempted robbery, using fighting or offensive words, and animal cruelty (although it doesn’t appear the horse was harmed), but in the end, it looks as though the two-minute police beating took precedence because as AP reports, Pusok came out of the whole ordeal $650,000 richer.

Via AP:

A California county on Tuesday approved paying a $650,000 settlement to avoid a lawsuit by a man whose beating by deputies after a horse chase was captured on video and led to a federal civil rights investigation.

San Bernardino County supervisors approved the settlement with Francis Pusok, 30, in a closed meeting, said David Wert, a county spokesman.

Attorneys Sharon Brunner and Jim Terrell, who represent Pusok, said in a statement that county officials initiated the settlement negotiations. The lawyers noted that it was "remarkable as there was essentially no investigation nor any indictments," and it was based on video...

Pusok fled by car and then on the horse in the desert on April 9 while deputies chased him on foot after trying to serve a search warrant in an identity-theft investigation.

But before you say it was all about the money, note that the Pusok family was more concerned about ending what they call “police harassment” than they were about the nearly three quarters of a million dollars they stood to gain:

Pusok's attorneys say he didn't settle for the money. They say he would have probably made more through litigation, but he wanted to end police harassment and abuse.

Meanwhile, the sheriff's department is pleased that its deputies can now get back to doing the kind of serving and protecting that is on full display in the Pusok video:

"With this situation behind us, we can move forward with protecting our residents and ensuring that local enforcement is responsive, effective and restrained.”

*  *  *

It looks like this proves yet again that all’s well that ends well after a good old fashioned horse chase.

This money should be forced to come from the officers pensions fund instead of the tax payers. Would not take long for these payouts coming out of police union pensions for them to start policing their own behavior.

The money isn't for stupidity. but for the treason and tyranny of the gun and badge thugs.

Here is the thing about treason in this the American country. The Constitution, "the Law of the Land," stipulates in Article 3, Section 3, that treason is "levying war against them [the people, and/or states]. Therefore those thugs' crime of treason, "levy war," against that man, was a crime against ALL Americans, not just him.

I will not be satisfied until they have been tried in open court with me as Witness One. Who will be Witness Two?

In my dreams that's where the money comes from.

Where I am from towns and municipalities usually pick up the tab for crazed cop incidents. At least the incidents that don't get swept under legal carpet. Believe me, local governments everywhere would be dead broke if legal cases far worse than this one were not routinely dismissed.

Just call 911 if you want someone swatted. The cops can enter if they are let in and if you are strapped with a knife or gun in your own house they'll unload on you.

My question is "Who is paying for all these settlements and lawsuits for police brutality?"

I mean, departments must have some sort of insurance in case they are sued. Are they all self insured or do they have a policy? Because, whatever insurance policy most police departments have, their premiums must be going through the roof.

I guess if they are self-insured, its the plebes that are getting beat up that are ultimately paying for their beatings as well, with their pocketbook. The irony would be entertaining, if it wasn't a fucking tragedy.

I read once that protesters put a few layers of aluminum-foil under their shirts causing the taser to short out. If that worked, it would be a cheap way to defeat the taser.

However, once the cop trips a breaker when the taser doesn't work, he and his buddies beat the person half to death or just shoot them to death.

This is turning into a freak show, I want my fucking country back..!

That is one way to do it and it seems to be better than my way.  Hell, I went to a car/RV auction last night.  I grew up on auctions and you can find some cool stuff for cheap depending on what the lunar phase is I guess but I have done alright with auctioning.  I love it.  It's free market at it's best... until last night.  I was there for a 1985 Harley-Davidson 1340 Sport Glide but there was some other cool shit as well.  There was no mention of any reserve on anything in the billing of the sale or in the paperwork once I registered to bid.  It should a free for all right?  Highest bidder wins right?  Cash is king and bullshit walks right?  No mention of any reserve price on anything.  Wrong assumption.

The dumbest thing you can do at auction is to go drool over something so I didn't and conveniently found some stuff that I knew somebody might need.  I made a phone call and yes, if the price was right we could do business.  I looked at the order of sale and that HD was lot number one.  Perfect.  I saw a Snow-Ex pre-salter with a number on of 41.  When I checked unit 41 on the sale sheet it was a Lincoln Navigator.  I don't need one of those...I have four cars already.  No, I want to flip this salter for some cash.  So I went and asked the auctioneers why #41 was a Lincoln Navigator and not a Snow-ex sprayer.  You have to talk to "Bob" I was told.  Who the hell is Bob?  I was told that the unit did not sell at the last auction.  I don't give a flying fuck what happened at the last auction, I am here now with cash on the barrelhead.  "Bob", comes over and tells me that they need $2500 for that unit because it was repo'd and that this is what the bank needs to be made whole.  Fuck the fuckers at the bank.  I know what it is worth and I am not here for charity.  No deal.  The unit was worth more than $2500 but by the time you fuck around with hauling it out there has to be some profit.  Whatever.

The auction started, and lot #1, which was what I was there for, was not actually lot #1.  I got to watch a parade of various types of cars and trucks and some were nice and some not but all running.  I don't need more fucking cars right now but whatever, if something goes cheap enough than fuck it, I will buy it.  At that point the auctioneer started sky high and of course no one would bid and dropped from there but not far enough.  There were about 50 people in that crowd and at least 10 of them were used car dealers who went on buying sprees.  No surprise there and the cars were junk.  Then they brought in the later models.  There was an 05 Pontiac G6 with 89K that went for over 8K.  Fuck that idea.  As the cars got nicer the auctioneer starting admonishing the attendees that things were going too cheap.  What?  "We can't sell this gem for less than this or that price." he started to repeat on vehicle after vehicle.  What?  I thought this was an auction with no reserve?  All sales final with cash on the barrelhead.  NO.  One after the other the letters "NS" got written on the cars and trucks.  What the fuck?

At this point, the auctioneer is dictating what the price should be and guess why?  Repo's and the banksters want their money on shitty loans they made.  "No, the bank needs this amount or they will not sell".  The bank fucked itself already so what does that have to do with me and the price of rice in China?  Who is determining what any of this stuff is worth then if not the free market standing right in front of you with with CASH?  The auctioneer stated the value was higher than what being offered.  Really?  It is?  No, it isn't higher than what the fucking bid is and you are lucky to get what I offered.  I DO NOT GIVE A FUCK WHAT THE BANKS ARE OWED.  We paid those those fucking assholes already with a credit card national debt bailout.  This is an auction....cut your losses.  Is there some stipulation in some banker friendly law that says as long as you offer a repo for sale once a year then you can amortize your shitty debt?  If you arbitrarily value something yourself, or some assessing crook for hire, and then put that on your books so you can show less loss?  Fuck that.

Eventually the HD came up and it went high right off the bat and no thanks, BUT, it TOO was an NS because the bank would not take less than then amount it was owed.  There were some other HD guys who bid on it but it failed to meet the secret reserve and the bike was not worth that much.  The best part was, according to the auctioneer, that the bike sat for five years in a police garage before going to auction after a repo.  How does that work?  Does that mean that the cops just used the bike whenever they wanted while not in uniform?  What a deal!  I could believe cops these days would do that without hesitation.  I think the correct word for that one would be "confiscated" and not repo'd.  The cops then rode that bike around for five years and now they must have confiscated something better or something is wrong with it.  It goes something like that anyway.  No bid from me.

This guy got $650K simply by following what Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton have been doing for years.  In fact, AL Sharpton is probably trying to get a piece of the $650K, perhaps as what he might call a quasi-"licensing fee."

Or maybe law enforcement heard that Al Sharpton was on the horse thief's speed dial and chose to settle before Al could get a flight out.

Query does the horse get anything from the settlement?  Wasn't he/she a victim too?  Isn't everyone a victim these days?  Don't we get a cut for having to watch the video?

Ooh, I feel a chill.

I wonder how many people who weren't in law enforcement themselves have ever pressed such charges. Is there some record somewhere of charges pressed by X against Y? Where you can differentiate between individuals, corporations and government entities? Is there a public record where you can see who lobbied for what law?

It might be interesting to get the box scores.
