Caught On Tape: Cop Jumpkicks Suspect After Shooting Him
As regular readers are no doubt aware, there’s been no shortage of “caught on tape” police moments over the past several months. Thanks to police cruiser dash cam video, bystander cell phone recordings, and in one case, aerial footage from a local San Bernardino news helicopter we’ve witnessed a South Carolina police officer shoot a fleeing, unarmed man in the back, watched as Arizona officers battled an invincible family band in a Wal-Mart parking lot, looked on incredulous as a US Marshall destroyed a citizen’s cell phone, and followed Sheriff’s Deputies through the desert as they chased (and subsequently beat) a man who fled on a stolen horse.
Today we bring you the following clip (circa 2012) from Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Abraham Martinez’s dash cam. Martinez was pursuing one Steven Gaydos whose crime was running a stop sign while driving a motorcycle on a suspended license and carrying two percocets in his pocket. After a high speed chase Martinez apparently decided to “disable” the bike by shooting it four times but unfortunately ended up shooting Gaydos instead. Realizing he was shot in the thigh Gaydos appears to pull over with the intent to surrender when, completely inexplicably, Martinez executes a running jumpkick to Gaydos’ midsection. Here’s the clip:

Apparently shooting a Texas motorcyclist in the thigh during a high-speed chase wasn’t enough for one state trooper, who ended up performing a leaping kick into the man’s lower body after eventually pulling him over.
The incident began after then-25-year-old Steven Gaydos ran a stop sign in Texas’ Chambers County. The case actually occurred back in December 2012, but only surfaced recently after the Austin American-Statesman newspaper conducted an investigation into how cops deal with fleeing suspects.
The chase was captured by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper Abraham Martinez’s dashcam as he raced behind Gaydos, yelling at him to pull over. Speeds of 130 miles per hour were reached during the chase and at one point, Martinez took out his gun and shot it four times in Gaydos’ direction.
Martinez said he was only aiming to “disable” the motorcycle, but he ended up striking Gaydos in his right thigh with one of the bullets.
Eventually, Gaydos could be seen slowing down as he reached an intersection and decided to pull over. However, as he tried to dismount from the bike, Martinez is seen jumping in the air towards him and kicking him in his left thigh.
Gaydos was taken to the ground and arrested. He was charged with evading arrest, driving with an invalid license and possessing two Percocet pills, the Statesman reported. Gaydos said at the time he knew the police were chasing him, but claimed he didn’t want to lose his bike because of a suspended license. He also questioned whether it was necessary for Martinez to shoot him.
And while that might seem like a reasonable question to ask if you’re Gaydos, Martinez would later explain that usually in these situations the suspect turns out to be a murderer or a rapist:
“Past experience has taught me that people evade arrest to conceal their identity after committing felonious crimes to include but not limited to, murders, aggravated robberies, sexual assaults, burglaries, and/or the vehicle utilized to evade arrest is stolen,” he wrote regarding the incident, according to documents from his personnel file.

What's freaky is I never knew about the raids until a saw a link in the comments here. And when I went looking for information I kept finding stuff being blocked.
If you search for "John Doe Raids" on reddit, for example, and set the time frame to the past 24 hours, all the links are either suppressed or deleted threads. I only found a handful of articles in local Wisconsin papers discussing it, and most of the time they brought up the gag order. How the fuck can anyone justify a gag order that denies access to your own lawyer?

I don't hate illegal aliens. The vast majority of them from Mexico and Central America are just people that want to make some money and help their families. If you were in the same position and there was an idiot country to your north that didn't protect their borders and had politicians and businesses that encouraged you to come and pick their crops, wash their cars and clean their yards, you'd jump at the chance.

It's actually a very simple fix, too. We have H1b visas for tech workers. There should be a similar type of guest worker program for migrant workers that do the jobs that illegals are doing now. If you get proper documentation, you can come here for some specificied period of time and do the work. If you don't have the papers, you're arrested and immediately deported and can never qualify for the guest worker program. Most importantly, if a business is found to be hiring undocumented workers, the business is fined heavily for each infraction and the business's owner goes to prison for a specified time for each infraction.
Don't blame the illegals, blame the government and blame businesses who hire these people.

If you're talking about the cop, I don't know. But initiating a high-speed pursuit over a non-felony (civil infraction) of running a stop sign, while recklessly shooting at a moving target no less than four times, I think SIGNIFICANTLY contributed to endangering additional lives.

Ok, he had a suspended license. Which is why he ran the stop sign and fled when he saw the cop cus otherwise he'd lose his bike.
In a country where not being able to drive is equivalent to condemnation (cant drive? no job for you!), perhaps they should be less crazy about stripping licenses away? Furthermore, it's fairly stupid to be chasing at all. There are cameras, use them. Problem solved, no need for a chase, the guy just gets a visit at home later.

The license plate is in the name of the owner because it's registered to the owner.
The owner of the bike gets a ticket in the system. The ticket must be paid off eventually, by default it is credited to the owner.
The US insurance system more or less requires you to list who is allowed to drive your car.
So we take these two things together and if the owner isn't at fault, then SOMEONE is. And that SOMEONE must present themselves to eat the points and pay the fine.
If someone is speeding, good for them, they are speeding, issue a ticket, they'll get an SMS that they have a new ticket that has to be taken care of by next registration/insurance renewal. If it wasn't them, then it's on THEM to demonstrate that by offering up someone else to take the fall. If they are speeding and get into an accident, then they can be 100% liable. If the cops are worried about not catching everyone, then they can easily push a narc system. If you submit video showing violations and it results in penalties, you get a cash reward. There, people police themselves, cops are not really needed anymore. Few cops on the street means lower budgets means many problems solved.
In the case of the owner being suspended, the car is treated as suspended regardless of who is driving. The owner can make a legitimate petition to the court of WHY the vehicle was still in use or WHY the suspension is an unusual or cruel punishment. That's the real problem here. In the old days this cop would've radioed ahead for help and then pulled over and sipped his beer. And guess what, the kid gets away and the earth keeps on spinning. He was driving a dirt bike not an 18 wheeler. The justification for shooting is unbelievable. The cop pursuing created a much more dangerous situation than the guy on the bike. That's why most sane police departments don't allow high speed chases.
