President Obama To Explain How A CIA Drone Strike Killed US/EU Hostages In January - Live Feed
A U.S. drone strike in January targeting a suspected al Qaeda compound in Pakistan inadvertently killed an American and Italian being held hostage by the group, senior Obama administration officials said. As WSJ reports, the killing of American development expert Warren Weinstein and Italian aid worker Giovanni Lo Porto is the first known instance in which the U.S. has accidentally killed a hostage in a drone strike. We await President Obama's 'collateral damage' explanation.

As The Wall Street Journal reports,
The mishap represents a major blow to the Central Intelligence Agency and its covert drone program in Pakistan, which President Barack Obama embraced and expanded after coming to office in 2009.
The incident also underscores the limits of U.S. intelligence and the risk of unintended consequences in executing a targeted killing program which, according to human rights groups, endangers civilians. U.S. officials say the strikes are needed to combat al Qaeda. To mitigate the risks, officials say the CIA won’t launch missiles at a suspected target if they know civilians are present.
The White House has launched a review of the January strike to see if changes are needed to the drone program to avoid similar mistakes. Officials said the program hasn’t been curtailed so far in response.

That's exactly their justification. Their excuse for killing a minor citizen from Colorado was that they were trying to get another terrorist who was at last glance still alive three and a half years later, and more importantly wasn't at the strike location at the time. The MV Wilhelm Gustloff was a cruise liner constructed for the NSDAP “Strength Through Joy” organization in 1937. When war was declared against Germany in 1939, she was requisitioned by the Kriegsmarine (Navy) to serve as a hospital ship, and later assigned as a floating barracks for naval personnel in Gotenhafen (now Gdynia), and finally put into service to transport evacuees from eastern Germany in face of the Soviet onslaught of 1945.
On the bitter cold night of Jan. 30th, 1945, the Gustloff departed from Gotenhafen on the Baltic Sea bound for Flensburg. The ship was designed to carry a max. 1,865 passengers. On this fateful night she was evacuating some 10,582 souls. These were mainly German civilian refugees, govt officials, and military personnel, including sick and wounded.
She was soon sighted by a Soviet Sub S-13. Just after 9 pm, as she was about 30 km offshore, the Soviet Sub fired three torpedoes at her port side. The first struck near the port bow, the second near midships, while the third hit the engine room, cutting off electrical power.
The Gustloff went dark, listed, and sank in under 45 minutes.
An estimated 9,343 souls perished, including some 5,000 children, in the dark, frigid waters, making it the largest loss of life in a single ship sinking in history.
