President Obama To Explain How A CIA Drone Strike Killed US/EU Hostages In January - Live Feed
A U.S. drone strike in January targeting a suspected al Qaeda compound in Pakistan inadvertently killed an American and Italian being held hostage by the group, senior Obama administration officials said. As WSJ reports, the killing of American development expert Warren Weinstein and Italian aid worker Giovanni Lo Porto is the first known instance in which the U.S. has accidentally killed a hostage in a drone strike. We await President Obama's 'collateral damage' explanation.

As The Wall Street Journal reports,
The mishap represents a major blow to the Central Intelligence Agency and its covert drone program in Pakistan, which President Barack Obama embraced and expanded after coming to office in 2009.
The incident also underscores the limits of U.S. intelligence and the risk of unintended consequences in executing a targeted killing program which, according to human rights groups, endangers civilians. U.S. officials say the strikes are needed to combat al Qaeda. To mitigate the risks, officials say the CIA won’t launch missiles at a suspected target if they know civilians are present.
The White House has launched a review of the January strike to see if changes are needed to the drone program to avoid similar mistakes. Officials said the program hasn’t been curtailed so far in response.

If the hostages are *accidentally* killed during a drone strike or recovery attempt you don't have to be criticized for trading Guantanamo prisoners for them. It also burnishes your 'we don't negotiate with terrorists' credentials.

Does our shit for brains Commander in Golfer shorts not understand that killing citizens of a foreign country on their home soil is an Act of War? … It does not matter what their ideology, religion,’ alleged’ stated intentions might be unless you have concrete proof of some overt hostile act against an American citizen or some causative Act of War on their part and can present said evidence to a court you have no justification for whacking people.

How do we know Weinstein is really dead? How do we know it was really OBL? We only know what they tell us what they think we should know. If people know too much then they have to be eliminated such as Navy Seal Team 6 after the assassination of OBL? Likewise, if they tell we the public more than we should know they would have to turn around and kill us as well.
Guaranteed if the OBL raid went sour (almost did) we would have never heard about it.
When going over the what-ifs, either SecDef or Brennan posed the question to JCS: if the team gets pinned down in the compound, what then? JCS was shocked. They assumed that all diplomatic channels available would be opened up to resolve the standoff. . . right?
Nope. This little detail was lost in the media euphoria of a successful raid.
