Dramatic Footage: Drone Flies Over Devastated Kathmandu, Reveals Earthquake Destruction
Yesterday we showed a dramatic, terrifying for those who were in it, video which captured the moment the Mt. Everest base camp was burried in an avalanche following this weekend's historic Nepal earthquake. While perhaps less dramatic, the video released moments ago reveals a "drone's eye view" of devastated Kathmandu, and other regions of Nepal,following an earthquake which has so far claimed nearly 4,000 casualties and at this rate may be the most destructive tremor in the history of the poor Himalayan country.

I'm surprised there's that much left standing after a 7.9 quake so close by.
Bet LA would look like a pancake after a quake like that hits it.
Big temple and like structures, constructed 500-1000+ years ago by the devotion of human hands, won't fall.
It looks like the only buildings that collapsed are the ancient ones built with un-reinforced mud-bricks.
The more modern buildings have only minor cosmetic damage.

My guess is the ground is very rocky so there isn't much of a "Jello-bowl" effect as in Mexico City or San Francisco
Actually, I heard a report that stated the basin the city sits in has a clay base, thus liqufies very easy.

Anyone else tired of "dramatic drone footage"? I know I am, I build these things and would rather see rescue drones with FLIR and other tech on board looking for survivors, not bringing me more disaster porn.

Beautiful country, beautiful people. A real tragedy that they cannot financially handle. In a country with so much poverty they are undoubtably one of the happiest cultures on earth.
