Ron Paul Exposes The Real War On The Middle Class

One of the great ironies of American politics is that most politicians who talk about helping the middle class support policies that, by expanding the welfare-warfare state, are harmful to middle-class Americans. Eliminating the welfare-warfare state would benefit middle-class Americans by freeing them from exorbitant federal taxes, including the Federal Reserve’s inflation tax.
Politicians serious about helping middle-class Americans should allow individuals to opt out of Social Security and Medicare by not having to pay payroll taxes if they agree to never accept federal retirement or health care benefits. Individuals are quite capable of meeting their own unique retirement and health care needs if the government stops forcing them into one-size-fits-all plans.
Middle-class families with college-age children would benefit if government got out of the student loan business. Government involvement in higher education is the main reason tuition is skyrocketing and so many Americans are graduating with huge student loan debts. College graduates entering the job market would certainly benefit if Congress stopped imposing destructive regulations and taxes on the economy.
Politicians who support an interventionist foreign policy are obviously not concerned with the harm inflicted on the middle-class populations of countries targeted for regime change. These politicians also disregard the harm US foreign policy inflicts on Americans. Middle- and working-class Americans, and their families, who join the military certainly suffer when they are maimed or killed fighting in unjust and unconstitutional wars. Our interventionist foreign policy also contributes to the high tax burden imposed on middle-class Americans.
Middle-class Americans also suffer from intrusions on their liberty and privacy, such as not being able to board an airplane unless they submit to invasive and humiliating searches. Even children and the physically disabled are not safe from the Transposition Security Administration. These assaults are justified by the threat of terrorism, a direct result of our interventionist foreign policy that fosters hatred and resentment of Americans.
Some “military Keynesians” claim that middle-class workers benefit from jobs in the military-industrial complex. Military Keynesians seem to think that the resources spent on militarism would disappear if the Pentagon’s budget were cut. The truth is, if we reduced spending on militarism, those currently employed by the military-industrial complex would be able to find new jobs producing goods desired by consumers. Even those currently employed as lobbyists for the military-industrial complex may be able to find useful work.
Few things would benefit the middle class more than ending the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve’s inflationary policies erode middle-class families’ standards of living while benefiting the financial and political elites. Middle-class Americans may gain some temporary benefits from Federal Reserve created booms, but they also suffer from the inevitable busts.
As I write this, the dollar still reigns as the world’s reserve currency. However, there are signs that other economies are moving away from using the dollar as the reserve currency, and this trend will accelerate as the Federal Reserve continues to pump more fiat currency into the economy and as resentment toward our foreign policy grows. Eventually, international investors will lose confidence in the US economy, the dollar will lose its reserve currency status, and the dollar bubble will burst.
These events will cause a major economic downturn that may even be worse than the Great Depression. The main victims of this crisis will be average Americans. The only way to avoid this calamity is for the American people to force Congress to free them from the burdens of the warfare state, the welfare state, taxation, and fiat currency.

Yeah - fuck that guy. I own my own business, so I pay 15.3% in payroll taxes for a bunch of stuff I'll never use (unemployment insurance?, ss, medicare, etc), then I pay 7% of all my employees' payroll taxes. Then what's left goes through the municipal, state, and federal income and revenue tax regimes, then licensure, fees, etc. Whatever is left, I save and invest diligently. The entire time, the government is using my tax money to beat down my door seemingly intent on making it harder for my business to make money.
Honestly, if I could get the wife to unplug with me, we'd be gone already. I'm starting to think it is worth doing even if she wants to stay in the broken machine....
The entire scheme for taxing small business needs to be revisited.

Obviously, if Fiat systems would not take advantage of the money supply, they would not be as bad as they are now. The point is, politicians and Captured FED lackies cannot act ethically when put under political pressure. That is why Fiats Always crash, it just depends on when.
The point of PMs is that the growth is bounded by the a little more than the amount of PMs that they can effectively gather out of the soil. That amount is more responsible and disciplined than political or ivory tower driven amounts.

The solution to potential overissue of fiat is for it to be de facto legal tender for government debts only. That means the allowance of genuine private monies, not the government subsidized private credit cartel we have today.

Actually, the FRN is not fiat money but fiat debt. Fiat money would be Lincoln Greenbacks, spent into circulation with no interest attached. This was the approach recommended by Benjamin Franklin. Benny also suggested that real National Banks issue interest bearing loans, the interest payments from which would go to the Treasury and be used in lieu of taxes (yes, there would be some treasure in the Treasury). That's right- no income tax and no corporate tax.
Of course Lincoln's Greenbacks likely got him assassinated as was unsuccessfully attemped against Stonewall Jackson.

Pretty much agree with Dr. Paul with the exception of the SS/Medicare idea. Problem with it is when you're young and stupid you think you're invincible, and many are "always broke", so surrreeee, I promise not to get sick and always have money. How do you think THAT plan would work in reality?
If memory serves, when SS was created four workers supported one retiree. Today one worker supports two retirees. Ponzi schemes never fare well in reality no matter how good the intentions of those who run them. One can prepare for retirement in any number of ways. Saving money. Investing money. Opening a business to increase one's current wealth to better provide for the future. Educating one's children so that they will be in a better position to assist you in your old age. There are three hundred million individuals in this country and each and every one has not only the ability but the right to prepare for the future as they see fit.

Government expenditure in the US has one MAJOr outlet, linked to its global role of "exceptionalism" : Its MIIC budget that exceeds 1 trillion when you include all the frills. This has been an ongoing upward spiral since Nam days that went even more vertical in Star wars thrills.
Historically, since the mid 80s the US "official" defense budget has been over 16% of GDP on a constant basis year in year out...Awesome expenditure feeding the whole MIIC industry, and OBLIGING the US to meddle in other people's affairs by selling their yearly "obsolete" material as AID to others, hooked to the miliary spend by US's asymmetric wars that fed the fear of GOD in those surrogate countries.

Actually, it should be the US Treasury pumping new, interest-free fiat equally to the the entire US population until all deposits are 100% backed by reserves so we can, you know, allow people to move their deposits to a newly established Postal Savings Service and shortly thereafter cancel government deposit insurance and all other privileges for what should be 100% private banks with 100% voluntary depositors.
Price inflation risk? No, not if a temporary ban is placed on new credit creation by the banks until deposits are 100% backed by new reserves and until they are 100% private with 100% voluntary depositors and the new fiat (new reserves) distribution metered to just replace existing credit as it is repaid (destroyed). Professor Steve Keen has proposed something similar.
