The Baltimore Riots: The Stunning Comments By Orioles Owner's Son

Tyler Durden's picture

The day after violent protests left Baltimore burning in the wake of a funeral held for Freddie Gray who died after sustaining a spinal injury while being taken into policy custody, Americans are struggling to explain how the events that transpired on Monday evening are possible in modern day America. While most are united in their condemnation of indiscriminant violence, many still feel a palpable sense of injustice after witnessing multiple instances of alleged police misconduct over the past year.

In this context we present the following culled from Twitter messages posted by Orioles Executive Vice President John Angelos, son of majority owner Peter Angelos:

“Brett, speaking only for myself, I agree with your point that the principle of peaceful, non-violent protest and the observance of the rule of law is of utmost importance in any society. MLK, Gandhi, Mandela, and all great opposition leaders throughout history have always preached this precept. Further, it is critical that in any democracy investigation must be completed and due process must be honored before any government or police members are judged responsible.

That said, my greater source of personal concern, outrage and sympathy beyond this particular case is focused neither upon one night’s property damage nor upon the acts, but is focused rather upon the past four-decade period during which an American political elite have shipped middle class and working class jobs away from Baltimore and cities and towns around the U.S. to third-world dictatorships like China and others, plunged tens of millions of good hard-working Americans into economic devastation, and then followed that action around the nation by diminishing every American’s civil rights protections in order to control an unfairly impoverished population living under an ever-declining standard of living and suffering at the butt end of an ever-more militarized and aggressive surveillance state.

The innocent working families of all backgrounds whose lives and dreams have been cut short by excessive violence, surveillance, and other abuses of the Bill of Rights by government pay the true price, an ultimate price, and one that far exceeds the importance of any kids’ game played tonight, or ever, at Camden Yards. We need to keep in mind people are suffering and dying around the U.S., and while we are thankful no one was injured at Camden Yards, there is a far bigger picture for poor Americans in Baltimore and everywhere who don’t have jobs and are losing economic civil and legal rights, and this makes inconvenience at a ball game irrelevant in light of the needless suffering government is inflicting upon ordinary Americans.”

Not exactly what the US Department of Truth wanted to hear.

I don't think Mandela ever truly had 'just ends' in mind.  He was just yet another Western-backed operative (à la Lawrence of Arabia), and as such he has always been a popular (for TPTB) part of the Western propaganda narrative, because he is safe to invoke, having never seeked anything but failed approaches and broken ideas.

"The guy spent 27 fucking years in prison. He obviously had conviction and believed in what he preached."

LOL wut?? There are lots of people who have spent 27 years in prison, that doesn't qualify a person for anything. As for "belief" and "conviction", he believed in Communism and was convicted (properly) of being a murderer and terrorist.

The difference was, he had plenty of communist and "progressive" friends on the outside who helped bring the Apartheid system down and all he had to do was to wait for them to do their work. Apartheid was an obsolete and flawed system so it was going to come down eventually, Mandela just waited it out-- and given that he had the proper communist leadership credentials, he was the logical one to put into power.

I was just commenting on the "Western operative" bullshit. I really do not know that much about Mandela tbh. But again, no Western operative would have put up with the shit he did. Maybe his ideals were flawed, maybe he was crazy, whatever. But he definitely wasnt a "Western operative"

Tue, 04/28/2015 - 12:39 | 6038817 Zerozen
Zerozen's picture

It's not like he did 27 years because he wanted to, he was there against his will no matter what, so you can't really say "he had conviction" because whether or not he had it was totally irrelevant to his being locked in the slammer for 27 years.

That being said, the reason he gets mentioned so often is because after he got out, in fairness to him, he was a huge unifying force and advocated for all the touchy-feely stuff like reconciliation, forgiveness, etc. I grew up in SA in those years and the changeover to a black government could have gone a lot worse; there were many genocidal haters in the new power structure but Mandela made sure they weren't given a voice. I can't speak to the pre-prison terrorist Mandela since I wasn't around back then.

Yea, you can blame corporations and be correct but you must also blame ALL levels of government.  Over zealous environmental and occupational safety laws play a BIG part in the shipment of jobs overseas.  Also the huge liability judgements issued by juries across the nation have contributed quite a bit to offshore production.  Every coal powered electric plant that is shut down contributes to the exodus.

Then there is our overpriced and ineffective educational system that graduates hundreds of thousands of people each year that have no marketable skills.

None of this is by accident by the way, it is all part of the master plan to destroy the USA!!!!!

You are over thinking it -

But sort of proved the point -

If you need to hire 5,000 people - is educating them the first thing you want to do?

I have evaluated dozens of sites to build and locate manufacturing facilities.

You need labor that already has the basic skills - and if the area you are considering doesn't you move on to someplace else.

Last time I checked - throwing rocks and setting fires is not high up on the list of required skills for most companies.

I have hired thousands of people that are not white - mostly Asian and Hispanic but also hundreds of blacks. So roll your racist BS up in a ball and shove it up your ass.

----------------

Classic - last night on TV  - interviewing a lady that is on the Baltimore city council -

She was asked what needs to be done to help the area.

She says they need companies to come into the area and invest -

In the background the CVS building is burning to the ground.

You want to build a new facility and hire a few thousand people to work there?

 - would you pick an area that has a good chance the people that live there will go full fucktard and burn down their own neighborhood ?

How much does Baltimore spend on education per student?

It is not a question of CAN you educate someone - it is more a question of do they want to be educated.

Quarterly earnings important? Hell yes - how long do you stay in business if you can't make any money?

"Tell me what you would do with these uneducated things?"

NOT my place to DO anything with them - I am not their master.

If I was in their shoes I would get some type of education / job skill and then MOVE.

The revolution was led by wealthy individuals who put their lives and livelihoods on the line to help outfit and lead armies against tyranny.  Until we get that support again, true revolution will not occur.  The wealthy could start with a tax revolution... if they are owners of corporations there is no better time than to stop paying taxes in masse... that would be true peaceful civil disobedience that could start the process.

Obama’s Republican Collaborators

Tuesday - April 21, 2015 at 12:00 am

This week, Congress takes up legislation to cede His Majesty full authority to negotiate the largest trade deal in history, the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership, and to surrender Congress’ right to amend any TPP that Obama might bring home.

Why the capitulation? Why would Republicans line up to kiss the royal ring? Is Middle America clamoring for “fast track”? Are blue-collar workers marching in the streets to have Congress grant “Trade Promotion Authority Now!” to Barack Obama?

[...]

Where once wages rose inexorably in America and the middle class seemed ever to expand, we read today about income inequality, the growing gap between rich and poor, and wage stagnation.

Did $11 trillion in trade deficits since Bush I have anything to do with this? Or do we think that the 55,000 factories and 5-6 million manufacturing jobs that went missing in the first decade of this new century had no connection to those huge trade deficits?

Is there a link perhaps between all those factories closing in the USA and all those factories opening in China, or between a U.S. average annual growth rate of 1.8 percent since the turn of the century, and a Chinese average annual growth rate of around 10 percent?

My only complaint is he said Mandela was an advocate of 'peaceful protest'. Doesn't jibe well with the following:

"Go safely Umkhonto. Umkhonto we Sizwe. We the members of the Umkhonto have pledged ourselves to kill them — kill the whites.” These are lyrics from the anthem of Umkhonto we Sizwe, or “Spear of the Nation.” The organization is better known as the MK, the military wing of the Marxist African National Congress (ANC). The MK was established by its commander, Nelson Mandela

The MK led a terrorist insurgency that included bombings of public places. It killed many, many more civilians than it did members of the regime’s security forces — copiously including women and children. Indeed, it killed many more people than the approximately 7,000 black South Africans who, according to the post-apartheid Truth and Reconciliation Commission, were killed by the regime during the 46 years of apartheid. In fact, twice that number, over 14,000 people, were killed between 1990 and 1994 — the period during which the ANC was legalized and black-on-black violence became rampant.

- excerpted from the National Review, Andrew McCarthy, 12/14/13

How many years did Mandela spend in Prison like a "peaceful" soul?

You know that the presidente of Angola was a rabid marxist and...his daughter is the richest woman in Africa! A Marxist is the best candidate to becoming Clinton compatible...Just like the Presidente of Kazakhstan, the guy who was a top Marxist "tovarich" but became a king of Oil in his own rights post 1991!

What can't you understand about the label "marxist" that  a Yalta + Oil deal cannot abort ?

Its Tweedle Dee to America's Crusading, capitalistic,  "exceptionalist" Tweedle Dum.

Only Che stayed "noble", 'cos he never became head of Petrobras like Dilma did !  Now the acrid smell of corruption...

Hahaha...when the labels come off we are all greedy oligarchs in the nude, dude !

Mandela stayed a "noble" icon precisely because he stayed in jail. Thats why he goes down in history as the "good guy". Burden of proof of his darker soul inexistent under Apartheid.

Many of the posters on Twitter are claiming it's unfair to protect property.  But they are so short sighted the don't realize property destruction is the kyptonite of investment -- which is where jobs come from.  Congrats, you've burned down a CVS and now your neighbors have even less hope of an economic future than before.  Further, a culture that gives no fuck about education (see: truancy rates) will not be employable in "good paying jobs" because those require "good skills".

That is the new democrat economic plan based on the broken window fallacy. The democrat party noticed that these homes were aging in these cities. They also believe that the only way to create jobs is to break windows. In this case rioting, looting, violence of all sorts and varieties creates a wonderful economic opportunity. After all what better way to apply Obamacare than through rioting.

All those homes and businesses in Fergusen, Oakland, Baltimore and God knows what is next on the democrat parties list. Need upgrading and repairing so  burning them all down will create jobs. Well as long as people are willing to invest in those cities again. If not then the Fed can always print some more dollars. Which by the way are worth more than all the natural resources on earth. This printing of fiat tiolet paper will be more than enough to rebuild those cities thanks to undocumented alien labor.

Democrats believe that extra welfare benefits for all of those who lost their jobs and of course all those undocumented aliens who will work to rebuild the city. Will need to be expanded since most of their labor won't make enough to buy food even with the fruit of their own labor.  So as you can plainly see this massive and humungous expansion of welfare, illegal undocumented labor, rioting, violent uprisings etc. will make everyone employable in some way.

So what about the miners, the oil producers and others? Well, they are just the Koch brothers and nobody likes them. So democrats will just make them  slaves full of leveraged debt. If the miners riot the democrats will always blame the Koch brothers. After all you got to always blame someone in the democrat party.

But also USA has no "Cultural Borders". Sure, like art is never original and can often be traced back to people that completed earlier work. Culture is dynamic.

However by leaving borders open in Europe and the USA, the Culture is really under attack. Expanding US Labor Force with Foreign Workers World Wide, but also importing both legal and illegal workers to suppress US Labor Rates... while pretending this has little impact on our NATION, CULTURE, MEDIA, GOVERNMENT, Social Programs, Federal & State Budgets, MEDICAL Costs, Education Costs, Retirement Costs, People.

You have heard of personal Boundries?

And so people in Popular psychology talk about needed space and personal boundires to keep other people out of their life.

The same goes for Globalism and Multiculturalism. The free trade Era is a Failure as it turns out of be another avenue whereby Wealth is stripped from US Workers and Retirees.

But of course it doesn't end there. We have many, many, many US Treaties for Trade. The USA is completely wide open to foreign employers bringing in Foreign Work Force and becoming US Voters and Shaping the Social Structure of the USA.

Cultural Attack in the USA?? What is the word for it??

Who is Leading these Sweeping Cultural Changes??

What is the Agenda for Globalism, Free (Salve) Trade, and Massive Immigration while shipping Jobs to cheap labor overseas and Inflating our Housing, Property Tax, Home Insurance Rates, Medical Care, Education Costs, Federal Government Executive Pay, Federal Debt, Federal Tax Rates, Energy Costs, Water Costs, Military Costs, and Banking Costs.

RE

American political elite have shipped middle class and working class jobs away from Baltimore and cities and towns around the U.S. to third-world dictatorships like China and others

It makes you all wonder where is the nationalism then?  Why don't we have people in this country railing against supporting these regimes and not burning Apple and Wal-mart products in the streets, instead of looting for them?

It's because, unbeknowngst to the regimes he mentions, the people in these regimes are actually all now America's slave plantation.  China, Bangladesh, etc are just the share croppers of the neoliberal system.  And the lords they serve are getting less and less as the market gooses up more on bullshit; this guy knows, he's scared that those ABOVE him will take his wealth.

John Oliver had a good rail this week about the igornance of "supply chain management".  But without low prices, the system then ceases to exist.  It is only because of these "low prices" that people tolerate their jobs going away, tolerate those in other countries that are abused to make these products.

But what happens when the currency collapses?  Or when it is proven that China rogues against not just the US government, but its people (or China goes bust up, and THOSE people revolt not wanting to be neoliberal slaves anymore)?

Then the markets will burn as the streets do.  And, if you are a fan of liberty, this is the only thing that "fixes" this corrupt system.

Thanks for that apt link to John Oliver.

There are NO politically possible resolutions to these problems that I am aware of ... Look at the Trans Pacific Partnership treaty (as much as one can, since most of it is secret), and it is clear that things must necessarily get way worse, with no end in sight to how much worse that is going to get.

One ironic fact about cheap clothes made in third world countries being sold in Western countries is that when those clothes become second hand, using clothing, they tend to get shipped back to third world countries, where they are resold at much cheaper prices.

Therefore, as I roughly understand an over-simplified version of the story, the people in the countries producing those cheap clothes for Western market can not afford to buy those clothes themselves, and they can not have any domestic industry that can compete with the clothes that they made for export returning to them as second hand, steeply discounted, clothes.

The whole system is set up by the most wealthy for themselves, while it screws everyone else. There are no good grounds to doubt that will automatically continue to get worse, faster, due to the ways that all aspects of the political processes are totally rigged by the government of the money, by the money, for the money.

Overall, what is happening is that a fundamentally fraudulent financial accounting system is controlling everything in ways which overall get more and more criminally insane, as a tiny minority gets more fantastically wealthy through those means, which enable them to even more corrupt the politics, so that the overall situation always gets crazier and crazier.

I am not able to believe in anything else than the established systems much continue to become ever more criminally insane, until they drive themselves through a series of psychotic breakdowns ...

Each individual is stuck inside of that situation, where they are driven by their own real circumstances to behave in ways which make short-term sense to them, and may well be imperative for them to do, but which drives the overall longer term consequences for them to get worse and worse ...

Maybe, after that get bad enough to go through insane self-destruction, things will be rebuilt on those ruins, by those who survive through that, but I would not count on that.

John Angelo's message is mixed at best in terms of truth and standards, and displays certain degree of ignorance.

There is no such a thing as American political "elite" - there are only earnst puppets of the Money Trust that actually runs America. Outsourcing has been the work of Wall St. Banksters, endlessly greedy US capitalists and corporate CEOs. And if China is a dictatorship (some would challenge that characterization as US propaganda), then you better find a worse term for America, Saudi Arabia and Israel. Living standards of the Chinese people have been rapidly improving under Mr. Angelo's so-called dictatorship, while those of the American people have been devastated under Mr. Angelo's so-called political elites. I'm sure by Mr. Angleo's standards, these elites are all "elected representatives of the people", which by operation of logic, means that it's the fault of the voters that the elites have outsourced American jobs, devastated the American economy, and drastically diminshed the civil rights and protections of the people.

That makes me suspicious of Mr Angelo's actual mindset, especially considering his background as a member of the 1 or 2 percent. He seems to be tacitly suggesting that America is some kind of world model in sound government, when in fact the US political system has been a mixture of Plutocracy, Oligarchy and Corporate Fascism for decades. American descent into a police state is a natural progression, and started well before 9-11.

Anything other than ending the money monopoly. That monopoly is why and how this shitshow keeps on rolling over all of the people on the planet. Its not the lies its that we keep falling for them.

Accountability is actually each of our responcability. In that we have a duty to stand up against the evils of this world. To take on and defeet the dickheads not just to cry about it. Stand up and say No! Then back that up with our very lives if need be.
