Texas College Teacher Fails Entire Class After Being Told To "Chill Out"
It’s a tough time to be involved in higher education. If you’re a student, there’s a good chance you’re weighed down under at least $25,000 in student loans and although there are a couple of options you can pursue if you don’t ever intend to pay the money back (IBR payment plan is one and hoping The White House allows you to discharge your debt in bankruptcy is another), it’s rather disheartening to know that one factor being cited by ratings agencies in downgrading billions in student-loan backed paper is “high unemployment rates among recent graduates.” If you’re a teacher, you’d better hope you’re not part time, because if you’re an adjunct faculty member, statistics indicate there’s a 25% chance you and your family are receiving public assistance just to get by. The outlook may be a bit brighter for tenured faculty, but even those supposedly unassailable positions are now under fire as large state schools like LSU are set to draw up bankruptcy plans that could allow them to fire tenured faculty.
While we don’t know if any of the above factored into the following story, what we do know beyond a shadow of a doubt is that Texas A&M Professor Irwin Horwitz was sick and tired of the students in his Strategic Management course and so he did what many a college professor across the country has at one time or another dreamed of doing: he failed the entire class. Here’s an excerpt from the e-mail he sent to his students:
"Since teaching this course, I have caught and seen cheating, been told to 'chill out,' 'get out of my space,' 'go back and teach,' [been] called a 'fucking moron' to my face, [had] one student cheat by signing in for another, one student not showing up but claiming they did, listened to many hurtful and untrue rumors about myself and others, been caught between fights between students.
None of you, in my opinion, given the behavior in this class, deserve to pass, or graduate to become an Aggie, as you do not in any way embody the honor that the university holds graduates should have within their personal character. It is thus for these reasons why I am officially walking away from this course. I am frankly and completely disgusted. You all lack the honor and maturity to live up to the standards that Texas A&M holds, and the competence and/or desire to do the quality work necessary to pass the course just on a grade level…. I will no longer be teaching the course, and all are being awarded a failing grade."
Here’s more from InsideHigherEd:
The same day Horwitz sent a similar email to the senior administrators of the university telling them what he had done, and predicting (correctly) that students would protest and claim he was being unfair. The students are "your problem now," Horwitz wrote.
The university has said that Horwitz's failing grades will not stand.
A spokesman for the university said via email that "all accusations made by the professor about the students' behavior in class are also being investigated and disciplinary action will be taken" against students found to have behaved inappropriately. The spokesman said that one cheating allegation referenced by Horwitz has already been investigated and that a student committee cleared the student of cheating.
However, the spokesman said that the across-the-board F grades, which were based on Horwitz's views of students' academic performance and behavior, will all be re-evaluated. "No student who passes the class academically will be failed. That is the only right thing to do," he said.
In an interview, Horwitz said that the class was his worst in 20 years of college-level teaching. The professor, who is new to Galveston, relocated (to a non-tenure-track position) because his wife holds an academic job in Houston, and they have had to work hard to find jobs in the same area. He stressed that the students' failings were academic as well as behavioral. Most, he said, couldn't do a "break-even analysis" in which students were asked to consider a product and its production costs per unit, and determine the production levels needed to reach a profit.
In most of his career, he said, he has rarely awarded grades of F except for academic dishonesty. He said he has never failed an entire class before, but felt he had no choice after trying to control the class and complaining to administrators at the university.
And for your viewing pleasure:
Horwitz did propose one possible solution: he offered to teach only the good students...
Asked if the decision to fail every one of the 30-plus enrollees was fair to every student, Horwitz said that "a few" students had not engaged in misbehavior, and he said that those students were also the best academic performers. Horwitz said he offered to the university that he would continue to teach just those students, but was told that wasn't possible.

Collectivism at its finest.
I never saw a college classroom that was out of control. The students knew they were paying a lot, and wanted their money's worth.
Maybe this was one of those fake classes made especially for the football team. Those guys, for the most part, have no desire to be in school. I can see a room full of them being like an inner city high school. To teach chimps you have to use bananas as a reward.
Cheating is rampant nowadays as everyone has a smartphone. Most colleges are aware that they are behind the curve in addressing the problem.
These college professors have students that can't answer the simplest of questions face to face on a daily basis yet are able to ace complex tests. They know for a fact that they do not understand the material that they are supposedly getting all A's in.
This article will confuse the flaccid butthurts of the hedge. They don't know where to direct their hate now. The teacher who they supposed to hate because he is a leech with a gov salary, or the dissenting kids who treat school with the same contempt the butthurts do- but can also achieve erections- igniting the jealous zeal within all flaccid butthurts.
Let us wait to see what nodebt, vaqueero and the rest of the butthurt brigade whinge about.
The heroes of this non-fictional dystopia that we are living through are the chimps. They have been born and raised by the system to game the system.
Either you are a part of the system or you are gaming the system and will subsequently be selected to be a part of the system. If you are in between like most people then you will be a part of the 99%.
Well, since you asked so nicely....
I don't really give a fuck. It's none of my business. No idea what the real facts are here, although I suspect the teacher is a bit out of control. Failing an entire class in such a public way is a pretty obvious "Hey look at me! I have power!" stunt. If he's willing to "teach the good students" then why not just pass them and fail the ones he considers "bad"? One might even say that's the purpose of having a grading system. At least he might have a leg to stand on justifying his actions. But this way? Not a chance.
So how do you feel now? Better? Or worse?
Actually, merikan kids can't compete with the flood of H-B1 people who will work for half the wage. In fact, many merikans can't compete at all ages and skill levels and are getting the ax :
Fury rises at Disney over use of foreign workersAt the end of October, IT employees at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts were called, one-by-one, into conference rooms to receive notice of their layoffs. Multiple conference rooms had been set aside for this purpose, and in each room an executive read from a script informing the worker that their last day would be Jan. 30, 2015.
Some workers left the rooms crying; others appeared shocked. This went on all day.
What follows is a story of competing narratives about the restructuring of Disney's global IT operations of its parks and resorts division. But the focus is on the role of H-1B workers.
Disney CEO Bob Iger is one of eight co-chairs of the Partnership for a New American Economy, a leading group advocating for an increase in the H-1B visa cap. Last Friday, this partnership was a sponsor of an H-1B briefing at the U.S. Capitol for congressional staffers. The briefing was closed to the press.

I think multiple things are going on (at least at a top 50 university):
1. Technology has made the faculty lazy. They can simply produce slides and reuse them ad-infinitum with little regard for clarity or organization which makes a lot of students not give a fuck. Back in the day they actually had to write on a bb and teach. Now they can click and drone.
2. Technology is seen as a tool so the faculty give more HW, forcing students to collaborate because of the ungodly amount of work they need to finish. My dad said his HW at Berkeley in the 80's was about 2-3h/day. I had up to 6hr/day, and with classes ending sometimes at 7pm thats completely ridiculous.
3. Teachers think students cheat all the time, which I find funny because ive seen faculty smudge data ALL THE TIME when publishing articles. Sure students probably are able to cheat more, but Ive never seen a cheater with good grades.
4. Teachers have to think more about publishing and grants and dont really care about undergraduate, or even graduate students in large programs like law and MBAs. Students see that and dont give a fuck either.
5. Half the courses are obsolete (especially in business/management)
6. Some courses are taught by foriegners where you can barely understand every other word.
7. IT allows students to learn and work from home, to the horror of many teachers. I find this funny since you can LEARN ANYTHING ONLINE. Mandatory attendance should only be required in courses that require discussion or demonstration. Why do I have to wake up at 7am to learn math when I have the textbook? Why do I have to wake up at 7am period when the amount of HW only lets me get 5hrs of sleep a night?
8. College, assuming youre actually getting a degree that requires work, is not really very fun for the students. They are treated like sheep day and night, get nothing back from the school except a piece of paper, graduate with debt, and make only really a few friends that last after college. Almost everything taught at the undergraduate level can be done online, but schools charge upwards of 60k a year.
9. Some members of the faculty assume students are getting worse and worse. I think its more likely students are caring less and less since they view our insane world where degrees dont really mean shit anymore.
10. A college is not a place of learning anymore. It is a mill that takes insane amounts of money from students and gives them a piece of paper that is worth less and less each passing year.
Private University with Government Salaries......wow America is truly Socialist
Strange how ZH didn't bother to look at any of the other articles about this situation, to find that the professor is a drama queen whose teaching ability is rather doubtful.
One comment by a student in the actual class was that the professor taught two different methods to make a calculation, they came out with wildly different results, and that when asked which one was the correct answer, the professor threw his shitfit.

Problem solved on the dumbphone thing. These things should be mandatory for academic settings.
These ones are pricey but you can shop around, just need to block all the major cellphone frequencies. Just put it in your bag and bring into class if you are a teacher and don't even tell anyone. I'd even go as far as recommending some low frequency noise generators when testing students because they do have microphones and you just never know.
Thanks for the link!
I would be careful about getting a jammer. A guy in Florida few months ago was using one on his commutes to and from work because he hated other drivers on cell phones. I think he is looking at prison time now or a big fine.
Good, hope he has fun getting assed in jail. The only thing worse than a cop is a self-appointed cop.
Couldn't have been cheating, the student council said so
You must be a communist because football!
You must be a communist because football!
imo the thought is worth the repetition.
The students ain't paying, either their parents or the government (taxpayers) are.
Good for him. It should happen more often.
Aggies have honor HAHAHAHA That makes me laugh. The only honor an aggies has is to his multiple stickers on his maroon truck with his aggie license plate cover with the license plate that says "aggie". The aggies I've met, and there have been many, have sht for brains and are the perfect example of sheeple in action. They flock to each other like a cult. Aggies would piss on an old ladies face and trip a toddler if it would make his grass grow greener. Honor my ass, most of those fools at atm shouldn't be in college.
How many aggies does it take to screw in a light bulb? One, but he gets 3 credit hours.
What is the difference between an aggie and a carp? One is a bottom feeding scum sucker and the other is a fish.
Fail the entire university.
You really spent a lot of time an effort to demonstrate you are an asshole.
T-sip maybe?
I speak the FACTS! If you can't handle it, get out tha kitchen.
I didn't like you anyways.
You really spent a lot of time an effort to demonstrate you are an asshole.
My high school sweetheart was an aggie -I went down to visit her a lot for two years. Turns out she (and all her aggie friends) were cheating and sleeping around with half the skinhead corps the whole time. I hate that school. Unless you are an aggie, just about everyone in Texas hates them. That being said, I've known a lot of asshole professors, and his story seems highly supect -there are always a few really good students in any class -his actions seem indefensible.
You really spent a lot of time an effort to demonstrate you are an asshole.
I freelance over th? internet and earn about 80-85$ an hour. I was without a job for 7 months but last month my paycheck with big fat bonus was $15000 just working on my computer from my home for 5-6 hours. Here's what i have been doing... www.globe-report.com
You really spent a lot of time an effort to demonstrate you are an asshole.

I predict mass transfers to University of Phoenix.

Failing grades are the new holocaust, but the West will turn a blind eye til the 6 millionth 'F' is given.
Is it just me or does it seem like they're losing it lately?
We will see who gives whom the final failing grade...
Here's what you need for a bachelor's degree in basically any discipline:
Good textbooks.
Good instructors.
Someone to proctor tests.
Basic laboratories and classrooms.
Everything else is bullshit.

Students were dumb enough to pay him...
Like they had a choice...
It appears you never went to college, eh Smiley?
DaddyO
I would take as many pre-req courses as I could at satelite or community colleges in the area; only an idiot would pay full rate for a history/math/literature/basic chemistry...etc course. No matter what, I was able to find multiple avenues to burn up pre-req courses quick and cheap. It took maybe one whole day of research to get the course listings for every college within 50 miles: this doesn't take a full time commitment. If the professor was a prick I was in another class within a week of the semester starting. Of course this doesn't make you look as "COOL" as all the preppies who get to stay in their little cliques as they wander from class to class but at the end of the day but that isn't why I went to college.
I would be careful about what courses the 4-year school I was going to would transfer over. In the end I cut the cost of my college courses in half by doing that AND I got to sidestep any jerk instructors instantly. Its called problem solving on the fly, Americans used to be really good at it.
Sometimes you're stuck having to take a particular prerequisite course with a notorious professor. I had a C programming class where the instructor would routinely yell at the class and handed out maybe 10 As and Bs out of 200 students. Most flunked. He was eventually canned for verbally harassing students .. some crazies out there.
Most likely, only 10 students deserved an A. I had one professor who failed ~60% of the class. He was a bright, no-nonsense guy. The class was full of morons who failed the exams because they weren't pure recital of memorized facts and then tried crying to get their grade raised. That was quite a few years ago and I wouldn't be surprised if he was no longer teaching... probably replaced by someone who gives A's out to the dumb sheeple like candy....
In Texas? Inconceivable!
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
"What you just said, was one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point, in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it."
Sandler blew his funny-wad with that one beautiful line.
Sandler is just another unfunny overhyped talent challenged jewboy. Jews love him though!
He's shit!! Funny as in pathetic. I saw one of his movies set around the Christmas period and not once would anyone say the "C" word, but mentions hanukkah a dozen times. Seriously, brain dead zombies that watch this hollywood crap in other countries are quite sure at least 50% of the US population must be Jewish.
Sounds like he has lousy classroom management. He should have gotten rid of the first kid to give him shit, on the first day it happened.
This is a military school! Cadets telling professors to "fuck off" speaks volumes about the decline of both education and self-discipline.
Dude, you DO understand that this was a COLLEGE, not a fucking fourth grade class?
Needing "Classroom management" in a fucking college class? Really?
Think about how fucked we are if one needs to use grade school classroom control methods in a COLLEGE CLASS
I don't agree with you. They're still 18 year-olds. Bumpo is right, it's like any other leadership position, if you let one person start to give you shit, the rest of the crew smells blood and things get out of hand. A title doesn't give you respect or authority. How you handle yourself does.
In any case, what good does denying it do?
It must be an age / generation thing. When I went to college this simply did not happen. It's really inconceivable to me. There was no "classroom management" or none of that bullshit.
Everyone goes to college now. It's just what young people do, even if they don't want to be there. Even if they shouldn't be there.
what they gonna do? burn down the neighborhood? Oh wait...
We sometimes forget the mantra that, "everyone's a winner in Merika." It's part of the 'No Chillen Left Behind" policy; not allowed to hurt any student's feeling by giving them less then a "A+" because it might damage their brain for life. The parents will sue and maybe punch the teacher in the face 'cause "it's simply not fair" to hurt their baby dat way.
Remember what Barry said, " Merikans are 'ceptional! "

The pussy, entitled, dickhead generation
That's not a freshman course. Juniors and Seniors.
When I was a senior en IE at LSU, in one class, there were many hispanic students. During every exam in that class, the Chinese professor would leave the room, and within moments the hispanic students would start cheating.
Every. Goddamn. Time.
I made an A in the course. After each test, I went back to my dorm and bonged up, and then said to myself "I just don't give a fuck". By that point all I wanted was out. Done. Fini.
In my sophomore year I was approached by a wealthy A student, also hispanic, who offered me money to do his course final project. Not being a huge lover of mechanical drawing and Autocad 3.0, I told him to basically fuck off and do his own work. I heard later that another guy did his project for him. That cheater was in the IE honor society with me and had a higher GPA than me.
And that was before the age of smartphones, wireless, and decent computers. We had one lab for the entire department that consisted of 20 IBM PCs with 386 processors. Only rich students had their own computers. I typed my papers at the Student Union on IBM selectrics. Circa '88-'92.
I worked as an IE for 1 year before the factory where I worked was moved to Mexico because "there's not OSHA, no EPA, no minimum wage, and workers can't sue us there" quoted verbatim when I was informed on a Friday that that was my last dayin July 1994. Remember most of the cheaters in my major were from Mexico (upper class Mexicans - light skinned and fluent in English).
Ross Perot was 100% correct and I knew the fix was in when, during a debate in the '92 election, both Clinton and Bush smirked and laughed when Perot said NAFTA would fuck Americans.
America? FUCK YEAH!
you are overestimating modern american colleges.
they are garbage. americans have been dummed down incredibly over the past 30 years. which is odd because that has happened at the very exact same time college enrollments skyrocketed, manufacturing jobs plummeted, and the service sector exploded.
my theory is that people have to purposefullly be dummed down to accept pointless service sector jobs. half of which require no brains but just th epatience to accept. like digging holes all day.
The word service is derived from the same root as the word servant.
It's a servant economy.
..Or, dumbed down and utilized in the impersonal: server.
I agree. Im just using the parlance of Teacher-ease. When I say Class Management, what I mean is no tolerance for bad behaviour - "This aint the public schools, son .. either you leave the room now, or class is dismissed"
A private university is now a grade school class ? That was his point I suppose
If he wants to walk, let him. If these suckers want to pay the tuition, let them.
Stop trying to save everybody from themselves already.
No need to have the system fuck with the kids, when they can just as easily go fuck themselves.
Sure, but again, this was a service that they are paying for, so what's the difference? From the sound of it might as well have been paying someone to hit you in the head with a brick.
Well, if you have a customer go into your restaurant and start shitting all over the floor, breaking plates and insulting customers, then you have the full right to kick him out, even he paid for the food.
I went through college and seen such classrooms too many times. The problem is that these spoiled brats through their actions make the learning experience unbearable for kids who actually come there to learn and understand the value of money spent on tuition.
Do restraints have an admissions office too?
yea if some bozo wants to shoot up an entire class of college kids let them. stop trying to save everyeone.
fucktard. -
it's OK that people care about shit. OK?
As long as you allow that it's OK for other people to care about the opposite shit, sure. Having enemies is valuable (it makes us stronger). Lazy Americans don't understand that and long for a fantasy world where everything is perfect, they can turn off their brains, maybe worship Jesus all day long while sitting on a cloud, maybe lounge in the dazzling McDonalds at the end of universe, and live happily ever after free from suffering or challenges. The closest they'll ever get to that is to be very happy slaves. If the slave masters were to succumb to their own poison, then humanity would have died of a weakness, rather than of a passion.
I never failed a whole class in ME, but one term I did give F to 24 of 52 students. It was a requried course and I explicitly told the students my standards at the start of the term. After the grades were distributed I was walking down the hall and was greeting by the associate dean of research. He had just heard what I did and thanked me profusely. I asked why. He had just heard the grade distribution for the university. The most comonly given grade for the whole univeristy was A, the second most commonly give grade was A-, the third was a B+....the least commonly given grade was F. You got the idea. By giving that many F grades our college didn't look like the degree mill it truly was.
I have strong reason to believe that this would be true for virtually every major university in the US.
As a nation we are so fucked it ain't funny.
someone suggested Israel had a pattern of committing war crimes, didn't they?
Francis is that you?
DaddyO
He's the victim too.
And pretty soon all you need to get into college is a pencil. Got a pencil? Get in there, it's physics!
- George Carlin
What a pathetic excuse of a teacher. No control of his classroom. Doc his pay and fire him on the spot. 4th graders would eat him alive.
Weird on all the downvotes Andy .. I don't get where the ZHr's are coming from on this one. The classroom is a zoo because he allows it. Get rid of the bastards that don't behave. Students that distract from the rest of the class from functioning are taking their freedoms out on the rest of the class. Kids need to figure out how the real world works. The squeaky wheel doesn't get oiled. It gets replaced. Not that honest debate shouldn't be allowed, but Im talkiing about assholes being assholes.
The mark I am most proud of is a 56 (a,' D') in advanced computer programming at the University of Toronto.
In the class there was, after the first term where many cut out, about 60 students in and 58 of them were from China and two of us were 'white boys'. The Chinese hung out together, collaborated on all the projects, and six of them were deported to China when found cheating on the final exam.
My buddy, he tried mightily but got a 45, poor prick.
I was the only white guy to pass the course.
I worked fucking awfully hard on the course , didn't cheat , no one helped me (except my buddy, and he was just as slow as I was) but I survived.
Same experience, except there were only 2 Chinese guys in the class, and they were the only ones blatantly cheating.
I wonder if the student cleared of cheating had parents who donated generously to the endowment fund.
I saw cheating in college especially from the kids of the .1%. Funny how they emulated their parents.
Miffed
Had a substitute teacher in one of my classes. Some rich kid chose to show his defiance by putting his feet up and reading a car magazine instead of studying. The substitute told him to take a hike and literally kicked him out of the class throwing the backpack out the door. Said he wasn't faculty and didn't care how much the kid's parents paid to get him a diploma. I'd give that sub a medal.
How dare you! Rich people aren't cheaters. They're job creators. Only poor people cheat.
Poor people don't cheat because you have to be in school to cheat.
"I saw cheating in college especially from the kids of the .1%."
Ted Kennedy?
"Chill out" at the fraternity party said the students but the professor was not invited. Such hypocrites. So he had to fail everyone.
Today's repeated Bloomberg headline: over 50% of 8th graders want permanent government jobs.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder = P A I D V A C A T I O N T I M E
We FAILED some folks...
The consumer is always right. Fun and happiness are what they are paying for.
McEducation is quickly becoming a farce. Money trumps truth and knowledge every time. Down we go.
Horwitz plays the victim. He makes many claims against the students but only filed one official charge (from another article, not confirmed) against a student and that claim was found to not have merit. He fails all students despite of their passing grades. His excuses for failing all students are less about grades and more about claims of disrespect and behavior. (If he is failing them on grades then just finish the course and give the grades earned.)
In another article he demanded and got security officers to attend because he was so afraid of being alone with the students and their potential violence. Sounds like baseless claim to smear and demonize the students, who he felt were his enemy.
He admits the students had to say to him - "chill out,' 'get out of my space,' 'go back and teach,' [been] called a 'fucking moron' to my face". Sounds to me he is some kind of creep who gets a thrill pushing himself close too close to students.
Based upon his wild claims and arbitrary failing of all students and the comments he says students made to him, he sound like he was very demeaning, disrespectful and insulting towards the students and has a very hostile and arrogant attitude towards others. The events also imply he likes to lord over others with his superiority.
In other words he is representative of a certain segment of the jewish and mirrors Israel very well.
The university says they will investigate all his claims against each student. But the university never says they will investigate his behavior. Why was he not fired and why considering how much a college class cost these days is no one concerned about how the students have been subjected to a nut case with chip on his shoulder who likely is incompetent (due to lack of knowledge or emotional or mental instability).
The university should apologize to the students.
yea its the jews! they are guilty kill them all,or just the 'bad ones' wink wink.
All of them, got it.
Can we stop pretending "business school" is a real discipline? It's like getting a degree in calculator or hammering. It's a trade school. And take accounting with you. These are not disciplines. They're skills and techniques.
You don't even get the real skill you need in business school which is Sales.
i took an entry level class at columbia busienss school that was mandatory. business school is for social climbers not smart people.
business school isn't about having ANY brains for doing real thinking, it's about learning how to work in teams and socially get along or manipulate others into thinking you are the alpha dog.
columbia business school had plenty of fucking morons in it. i remember very well how smart the professor thought i was for having basic competence in mathematics in a VERY entry level course about securities bonds and pricing.
there are only a few technically difficiult courses in business school and they are always filled with engineering students who are taking a side class in risk assement of statistical modelling of whateever derivitaves or other shit.
all the classes where every fucking professor seemed liek a smart guy until 2008 put their collective foots in their mouths. glenn hubbard is a fucktwat also .
business/law school are worse than conservative fuck dungeons , they are instiutions which help lie to the public and their students about what the definitonof 'progressive' is and then claim to be holding out progressive standards thereby co-opting and subverting meaningful collective action.
groups like the american constituion society and federalist society in law shcool hoold themselves out as thoughtful left/right progressive groups that can help people, when in fact they are nothing but lobbying money laundering brain washing schemes whose existence is based on manipulating the truth in order to get members. almost like religions, but more lame and without the hellfire.
speak to eben moglen at columbia law school. ask him what he really thinks about the instiutional impretitive of his vaunted institution. then again, the man needs ot make a living.
Give that man a fucking medal.
We. are. so. fucked.
Teachers/professors should simply quit if they don't like contemporary education systems and environments.
I did.
Bring on the robots, Bill!
Wha wha you can't spell and you have behavioral problems. FUCK YOU teacher!
The prof is the individual most deserving an 'F'. Impossible that every student deserved to fail. The 'professor' simply quit. That's the 1 element of the educational system that leads to the most trouble. Quitting the effort to learn, quitting the effort to teach.
Aggies believe in that honor code. I'm sure there are violations, but I sincerely doubt that cheating in this (or any) A&M classroom is as rampant as this disgruntled 'professor' makes it out to be.
I feel for this guy. I ran my company's summer internship program in Houston for one year (against my will). We had students from Texas, A&M, Rice, etc. I found the millennials to be a worthless group of entitled shitheads. No original thought, no motivation, no work ethic, and especially no ability to do a damn thing right without being micromanaged. Halfway through the summer I stopped giving them assignments because I didn't have the time to watch them 24/7,give them instructions every step of the way, offer the "encouragement" they needed, and so on. My evaluations at the end were that they all needed to grow up and grow a sack. I got treated like shit for years in banking, they deserve the same.
Getting treated like shit is crucial for maturity. Too bad it's child abuse and no longer tolerated.
abuse these days is defined as 'not giving your special princess/prince every fucking thing they want right when they want it', or trying to administer corporal punishment of any sort.
All it takes to have your children forcefully removed from your home is an anonymous report with no evidence.
The DSS social workers have no degree, and are the most virulent Social Justice Warriors you've ever seen. They are the cuntocracy. Fat, entitled, and invested with enormous power (backed by blue hero guns), and absolutely no accountablity.
Here's one fine example. She fell asleep in her car during a supervised visit (when she was protecting the child from a so called abusive parent) some years ago. She still works there even though the incident was filmed and posted on youtube, where it still resides:

Go on and take a look at this woman. These are the people who can have your kids taken away and you killed if you dare to resist.
Think about that for just a moment. Then think about where the gallows needs to be setup in your town. I know where it will be sited.
"I paid for a university education and by God I'm going to get what I paid for !!!"
(even if I am an idiot...)
good thing he didn't say "You people"
Lawyer enriching law suits in 3..2..
Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission.
Yep I caught it too. He is toast.
You know, if it ain't one thing, it's your mother.
I blame the mothers
He screwed himself with this stunt. All he had to do was let the skaters skate, not involve himself and his bloated ego in classroom antics, and simply give a comprehensive and serious final exam which a student's grade would be based on entirely with straight scoring A=90% correct, B=80%, etc. Those who paid attention and studied would get their A. Those who didn't study would not be able to get 60% of the problems correct fail the course. Now the kids will get bailed out, should have failed but won't fail. Did he warn his wife he was going to go off the deep end?
its retarded how you got any downvotes.
its as motherfucking morons on zh don't understand you aren't ADVOCATIGN for this man's destruction but making a prediction. because there is no FUCKING way any moron out there could reasonably think this teacher will be rewarded for his behavior when it is precisely decades of institutionally declining demands and incentives that have in part resulted in the lowering quality of students across teh board. thus, one must live in some fanatasy world where this professor finds someone who actually rewards him for bucking decades of punishments for doing what he did.
no , he is fucked . your prediciton is accurate.
maybe it's for the best though. being an instiutional whore bitch which is now called a 'teacher' might not have been right for him. but then, starving to death might not be right either.
This iPad has a small screen and I hit the down vote by mistake. I 'sort of' corrected it by then hitting the upvote.
Nowadays, students will collectively complain and expect all of their scores to be revised if the average is too low or if certain questions are "too hard". I remember as early as high school that the teachers would remove certain questions from the tests in retrospect that were deemed "too hard" and you'd get bonus points if you got them correct, allowing for top students to score higher than 100%. In university, I remember similar revisions and I remember one professor breing involved in a bit of a scandal when he refused to do it and the students were indignant.
But otherwise, you're right -- he screwed himself. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he's not a total idiot, that he knew what he was doing, and that he just said fuck it to teaching and didn't want to do it anymore. Maybe he'll get a nice settlement or something after this.
My best teacher in undergraduate school was my macro and micro econ professor. He was a tough cookie. He graded harsh, right from the beginning. This way, those that did not like his teaching style could drop the class.
Even so, half the class that finished the class hated him. Truly hated him intensely because he only graded on what you could feed back in a test.
He was the nearest thing to a genius that school had to offer, and I value the time in his class.
"schools like LSU are set to draw up bankruptcy plans that could allow them to fire tenured faculty."
Bankruptcy has a long history as a management tool to deal with unions and professional associations. Locally, a major ore processor with 5,000 workers, all with United Steel Worker Union Membership, found a way to get around the problem they had with Company Pensions for these 5,000 and the several thousand already retired and collection. The Plant declared Bankruptcy in the 80's recession. Fired all 5,000 workers and shuttered the plant. The Judge voided the pension plan as it was grossly underfunded. The workers and retirees were forced to accept a fraction of their pensions under the Federal Pension Guarnatee Fund.
One year later, Privat Equity and a small steel company raised funds to buy the plant. In 6 months it was open and running again. The 5,000 workers fired were allowed to apply for work. Those selected were around 1,000 in number, the plant would now run with around 1/4 the former work force. Unions were banned from the plant, no union member was allowed to apply for work. Pay dropped 30%, no pension plans, reduced healthcare benefits, no more dental or eyeware like before. All in all, the Bankruptcy and buyout allowed the plant to return to profitablity totally by slashing workers, pay and benefits.
This story is country wide. It was the 90's way to do business.
Bain Capital?
Was that Mitt's first deal?
You're not listening. They got fired because the workers bankrupted their own golden goose. Bain Capital is merely proof there was/is no shortage of out of control regulations and unions.
Oh, he hurt their little feelings - poor things. Stupid fucks!
Hot chick. She can give me an F anytime. (yeah yeah I'm a misogynistic with hormones, chill out already).
Fuck the communist "Phd" . He never once has produced something of value. He is going the way of the buggy whip.....
What do you expect from a group of Agro-Americans (which is the pc term for "Aggies")?
they might want to change the grading system to 'Liked' or 'Unliked', then the kids will understand what is happening.
An about that break even analysis problem;
Most, he said, couldn't do a "break-even analysis" in which students were asked to consider a product and its production costs per unit, and determine the production levels needed to reach a profit.
was that off-shore production/manufacturing in China?
well the correct answer is 'what do you want the number to be?'
"...downgrading billions in student-loan backed paper..."
If the Federal Government owns these loans lock, stock, and barrel, how are they backing anything in the private derviatives market at all?
Kind of explains why 60 year olds are being hired today, and 20-somethings are unemployed....
This was A&M Galveston, not College Station.
Im willing to bet there were lots of basket ball americans in this class
and Wikipedia says......"about 50 percent reported themselves to have been in the top 20 percent of their high school class. Fifty-seven percent plan to pursue a master’s or Ph.D. degree and about 65 percent receive some type of financial aid."
Perhaps students think they are paying for a degree, and not the schooling.
Obviously he's suffering from the Syndrome=> http://wp.me/p4OZ4v-1CZ
Cornflake packet degrees!
Lower the standard so dumb dumb can pass, and
Wonder why employers don't want them!

even the smart asian guy in the front?
The students were probably also annoyed that his teaching interferred with their texting.
here is a thing.
the students pay the tuition. (leaving aside the loans and the rest, the student is eventually responsible to pay it back) ....thus the professor ultimately works for the students. that is right.
they are the reason for his job and his existence.otherwise why does he cash his paycheck.
so that the grad students can teach the class for him.
if the prof does not like it, turn in your Tenure, you self satisfied schmuck. and quit.
thus, from my view, he is the one who failed.
and if that does not ring your chime, consider this: when the student fails to learn, it is because the teacher failed to teach.
the Fail here is the so called professor.
Whiny, pathetic, drama queen. Sure, he had some bad apples in the class - almost all classes have some - but he just comes across as a failure. He could've chosen so many better options than what he did; he says the students aren't capable of entering the workforce. Nor is he, by the looks of it.
He should've set an exam with strict criteria that those who fail are required to move to another course, or repeat the year. Failing the whole class is just throwing all of his toys out of his pram, you're taking away from the good, bright, dedicated students because you can't handle the dipshits. I teach in a university and failing a whole class because you're a whiny twat is no way to go about life.
Most of those students will be flipping burgers so he is WRONG saying they won't be capable in the work force.
The "good, bright, dedicated students", to which you refer, are categorized, as such, by what criteria? Does in-class behaviour not matter any more? What about AFTER-CLASS commitment to learning the course? In the mid-Seventies, I was actually CANED by a Jesuit fellow teaching an accounting class for not having my homework done. He was 5'5" tall; I was a student athlete at the time 6'1" 215 lbs. After that, I ALWAYS had the homework done. This man should be lionized.
When even college grads can't spell or us words out of context , you know the USA is fucked.
Loose=opposite of tight
Lose=opposite of win
Would someone be so kind as to send me this professor's contact info? I would like to thank him and send him a CASE of Dom. God bless him.
