Suddenly, and with no catalyst whatsoever, "someone" decided to sell JPY, buy EUR and USD and aggressively bid for US equities and European peripheral bonds... just as they headed for an ugly day... Paging GPIF?
We assume this means The Fed (or Citadel) will be buying NKY futures following that index's biggest drop in 3 months overnight... you keep my market afloat and I'll keep yours alive... quid pro quo.

For these reasons, I've stopped heeding Austrian and ZH theories and dogma, realizing that the cluster/cabal of CBs can suspend and indeed are suspending reality for a time (a number of years), until they come back to it -- but at a time and condition of their choosing, not ours.
Until then, I will proceed of Principle: Allocate across Primary, Secondary and Tertiary assets -- realizing that for all three to fail at the same time, would mean a planet-ending event. Refusing to diversify/allocate is equivalent to "Live by the sword, die by the sword". Kirk out.

They have to try and hide the pump and dump they're running a while longer. The catalyst for the "selloff" is already in the making though. Who or what will get the blame? I suspect it will be a combination of things and as always, the common theme will be that everyone felt it was coming but "nobody" knew when.
In the meantime, yields are marching higher and the direction of the shuffle is pretty clear. Limp dick markets and not a single dose of Viagra on the table.

The entire world will find it's paper wealth gone and another generation of folks on fixed incomes will be eating cat food. Even the bankers behind all this will be poor....except those who know to buy real things.
When this is over many will wish they had been able to keep the game going just a bit longer. If there are any lynchings it will be because they failed not because they continued the Ponzi.
As that coincides with timeframe when SPY and QQQs hit key DMAs, I'm inclined to think it's part of the overall institutional machine trade that took SPY from it's 50 to 20 DMA in 60 min, w/ VIX tagging along. The question now is whether they reloaded for a dump back to and beyond the lows, or if they ramp back to end at the highs. Big down days often have 2nd legs starting around lunchtime (the bears' hope).

Been an interesting day. Bulls have bought right at std daily bounce pts (DMAs), but bears re-shorted at levels lower than 15m chart standards, which either indicates confidence in a larger down move, or simply playing the classic "double touch" requiring hitting the lows twice, perhaps even taking out stops, before the standard ZIRP ramp.
I've never met a confident machine ;)

Would require daily Keltner breach, and IWM rarely avoids Keltner bounces. Also, noticed how "little brother" RUT is often a slave to SPY and QQQ DMA activity, and if both bounce from the 20/50 today, then IWM could bounce back to the 50 DMA. If bears make SPY and QQQ break for 100/50 DMAs, you'd be in business to get filled. Good luck

Yeah...got a fill around 82 TNA Time frame on some May 22 Calls. Might have been a wee bit early. Need a bounce then roll out the weekly call sells against it.

I caught that(usd/jpy) spike as well.(The usdx barely moved) I had to cover my aud/jpy short, and reverse the trade, because aud/usd is so oversold on the hourly charts. ;-)
Given the likelihood of some type of Chinese QE or stimulus plan -- I like the AUD even with all the doom and gloom predictions. The only reason not to like AUD is if you believe that the USD is a sound currency.
I like the Aussie as well... I'm a well known Aussie bull. It's all about timing.
The $usd is so over sold currently, that I like the short side of the trade. I'm short aud/usd from yesterday, and hedged with aud/jpy long, because the usd/jpy was oversold and the $usdx is currently oversold.
I might play with some eur/jpy, gbp/jpy tomorrow after these EOM flows clear the system.
* eur/aud could be decent hedge tomorrow as well. It's more expensive though.
