Filipinos Asked To Turn Off Fridges To Save Power For Pacquiao-Mayweather Fight
If there is one thing more likely to incite wide-spread social unrest in the Philippines than watching Manny Pacquiao lose to Floyd Mayweather tonight, it is Filipinos not being able to watch it all... and that is why, as The South China Morning Post reports, residents of the western Philippines are being asked to turn off their refrigerators so there will be enough electricity to watch tonight's fight. However, Rante Ramos, secretary of the electrical cooperative on the island of Palawan, warned, even with help, there is likely to remain a power shortfall and "some circuits may inevitably be switched off."
As The South Cina Morning Post reports,
Residents of the western Philippines are being asked to turn off their refrigerators so there will be enough electricity to watch this weekend’s fight between local boxing legend Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
Rante Ramos, secretary of the electrical cooperative on the island of Palawan, posted the appeal on Facebook on Wednesday, saying that the area faced a power shortfall that might result in an outage on Sunday when the long-awaited fight airs in the Philippines.
“Truth is, come May 3... Palawan grid would still be 2-megawatt short of power supply. Some circuits may inevitably be switched off,” he warned.
“Collectively we can do something. On May 3, let’s all voluntarily switch off or disconnect as many appliances as we could,” he said, asking that about 15,000 homes switch off their refrigerators for a few hours.
He also urged people not to use their washing machines, air-conditioners and irons until the fight is over.
Palawan’s capital of Puerto Princesa has been suffering daily power outages lasting two to three hours due to a supply shortfall.
However the entire nation is eagerly anticipating the “fight of the century” between Pacquiao, regarded as a national figure, and unbeaten American Mayweather to finally answer who is the better pound-for-pound boxer of their generation.
The fight is going to be shown live in public on widescreen TVs in the city, sponsored by two candidates who are running for mayor in Puerto Princesa elections on May 8.
It will also be shown on a pay-per-view basis in many bars and hotels of the popular resort city.

While for now the odds favor Mayweather, here are some champs explaining just how Pacquiao can pull this off...

Hopefully the PacMan will beat Fffffloyd the Thug "It's OK to beatchur woman" Mayweather to an inch of death.
(Philipino accent): It is a small price to pay, the food you feed your family, so that we may maintain the circus.
Kinda what I was thinking, if you're not a fight fan you are being "asked" to unplug your fridge for "the common good"...lol. Of course later in the article the stated implication is, that if you don't, your power will be cutoff anyways...for the "common good".
You see? You still had a choice ;-)
So, tomorrow what will it have accomplished and to what benefit would this have for the betterment of mankind as a whole?
Other than the medical observations from studying disected brains of boxers from repeated blunt-force trama, there apparently is no known value of watching two willing human beings knocking the brains out of each other for public consumption.
90% of race car enthusiasts watch for the spectacular car wrecks, the more graphic the better. Bone crunching tackles on the football field generate massive "oouuus, and awwws" delighting in the debilitating hits from those injurious tackles.
Nope, from the time of Cain and Able through the Gladiators blood-letting of the Roman Colosseums, thru today. We really are vile, corruptible wicked things. Lord, forgive us.
A mind is a terrible thing.
-Prize Fighter after one too many rounds
Which is why I like watching UFC / MMA. More skill, less brain damage
In a show solidarity with my Filipino brethren (even though I'm a pure-bred honky cracker) I'm turning off my fridge as well. Where'd they put the on/off switch?...
It's annoying to have to keep telling people that I have no interest in paying to watch another man live his life as a form of entertainment.
I could be living my own by reading a book or flying to Mars or something equally ridiculous as jumping into a square that is called a "ring" to have some other douchebag beat me senseless just so I can support my overly entitled trophy wife until she divorces me for a younger man taking half my earnings that I sacrificed my health for.
Men are fucking stupid....
Asked? They were *asked* to spoil their bread for our Circus? What kind of gol durned Oligarchy are we running here?!
This sort of shit is a perfect example of why we need Smart Meters, and an Internet of Things.
Asked? Unbelievable. The Emperor-God Kings of old must be spinning in their ornately decorated mausoleums.
It's all good. I texted my cousin's girlfriend and her boyfriend is bringing over a generator.
Brute Sport. There was only one Ali and never before or since, whihc is why he was destroyed.
Boxing is a masonic sport, through and through...
Boxers step into a square that is called a ring?
Squaring circles is an old trick.
Pity that it is so popular.
I prefer music :-)

It was NOT a great fight. It was a modestly good boxing match. Floyd was a "dick", but boxed smart. Manny tried to "fight", but Floyd kept on running away. Pity.
Who you got money on?
"To whom have you already given your money?"
We are moving towards the Age of Scarcity, because governments are going broke, and it's all an egineered anomaly folks...

But of course there will be great pushback over this, so lock n load mates....
BTW One of the greatest fights of all times.... turns into a street brawl the moment the bell rings

I'd rather pay money to see all of them tee off on Skip Bayless... the best part would be when they squeegee Skip's face off the canvas
Draw
Yea but, glorifying the big fight on the fight club that has orders from the top to STOP being the fight club.
WTF?
The Monday morning meeting will involve some visible over the knee spankings.
They need to build more "green" solar panels and windmills.....right?
Ingrateful peasants!
What difference does it make?
YAAAWWWWNNNN.....
I think Manny & Flloyd both said they'd never in USSA again due to tax hit. They get an exemption?
Remember you read this; there will be a good size earthquake in the Philippines within the next seven days; so conserving electric may become a mute point.
Consider it remembered. Also consider false prophets are abominable.......
I'll beat up or get beat up by a Filipino for half the price.
Glad they got their priorities right.
I know I know, there's national pride at stake there...
I wouldn't be surprised if the Moro (read: Mohammedan) rebels of Palawan plan on turning off something more than just the refrigerators.
I remember my friend, who was a high school football coach. While waiting for the Super Bowl to start, he was doing some landscaping in his back yard and cut the power to eight city blocks right before kickoff.
I still laugh at the idea of all those people sitting around with beer in hand and snacks on the coffee table going "wtf".
But that's how it is all likely to end: an instantaneous slide from one level of civilization to another in a single wtf moment.
Don't know who to root for. Probably Pacquiao since I like underdog stories. Mayweather sure looks like he's got some reach on the guy. But not going to pay to see it. Mike Tyson cured everyone I know of paying to watch boxing matches.
One other thought: Until boxing goes to a winner-take-all payoff system, it will never regain its former glory. Too much money in it for the losers.
You'd begrudge them the one bit of compensation they get for trading in their freaking minds?
Go fuck yourself and I hope your dumb ass gets mugged by an ex-boxer.
SpaceX will soft-land 1,000 Powerwalls in Manilla by start time.
Please sacrifice a little bread that you may watch the Circus......
YEAH, VERILY, I say unto you,
TRUST is the most important thing. I, the LEADER, urge you to TRUST.
You, the little people, may REPENT of your past sins, by TURNING OFF YOUR REFRIGERATORS, and TUNING IN to the FIGHT.
OBEY!
You were WARNED.
Sincerely,
Sheldon Adelson

Tom Brady is attending both the Kentucky Derby and Mayweather-Pacquiao today. Man he can run.
If he's participating in the derby or boxing, I'll watch.
I feel like boxing is trying to make itself relevant in a world where MMA will soon be the only fighting sport people bother to watch.
Why would you bother watching MMA? It's just WWE.
The moment money gets involved, sport can't be left to chance. The result will be the one that maximises profit.
Yep. Corruption killed boxing (long ago), and it has done the same to MMA.
TPTB know that people listen and tend to follow the strongest (ex: Spartacus), so they make damn well sure than there are NEVER any good men allowed in the professional ring.
Unfortunately, sellouts tend to NEVER be as good as the best honest, hard-working men, so much effort must be spent to not only keep the good guys out, but also to do so without people noticing too much.
I am trying to live stream the fight the cheap skate that I am. My link keeps cutting out any suggestions?
THIS JUST IN from 'news of the future world':
Obama, taking his last opportunity as 'commander-in-chief', has issued his last EXECUTIVE ORDER, that forbids the use of electricity (remember, it's January 2016, in the CONUS), so that valued patrons may be able to view the 'Superbowl'. He also reminds us of the shut-off of the baseball game in Baltimore, where fans could not actually watch the teams 'play' (but millions and billions were made in Vegas), due to the, ahem, 'civil unrest' there. He reminds us all that the spoilage of frozen food, as well as the need to use 'layers' to keep warm, is a small price to pay for GLOBAL SPORTS FINANCIAL HEALTH.
MEANWHILE, in Venezuela, Maduro is flying to Europe to accept the Nobel Peace Prize for 'most green eco-friendly country', due to his leadership in the reduction of 'carbon emissions'. The medal is to be presented by Sir Albert Gore the Elder.
Don't worry, Montgomery, in just 20 more months, Jeb will be inaugurated and then you will realize that this is not a right/left problem but an elites vs. normal people problem.
Until then, feel free to froth at the mouth towards the left as that's exactly what the long-term ruling elite need you to do.
No bread and circuses for you!
PAc man lost!
I don't want to spoil anything.
Does San Mia Light spoil?!
the fight sucked , mayweather has no class
A fucking fix. Rematch more important. I am never watching boxing again.
Philippinos drink cold beverages while watching the fight. It's the national pastime. Do you go on a picnic and not bring food?
Asking them to turn off their ref during the fight is like asking them to go on a picnic with no food. Not going to happen.
The solution is for Philippinos to buy ice 12 to 24 hours before the fight, and chill their beverages in the purchased ice.
Don't buy the ice just before the fight, or the icemaker will offset the reduction realized from turning off the local ref.
No, the solution would be to turn on every electrical appliance in the house, every light, and bake up some chicken wings.
I kid, I kid! I hope the one fighter whose name I don't know really overcomes his PR backstory and narrowly defeats that other guy wearing another color of iridescent pajama shorts.
I've not been this excited since I slept outside the theater to be first in line to see SNLs "It's Pat" movie.
Careful, Sport. No puddles.
Have you ever been to the Philippines?
You punk ass preppers have nothing on the typical Filipino outside of major cities. These folks live off the grid and off of the land and the sea daily and have for millenia. (just don't tell them or the Catholic church that it has been longer than the "Creation Myth") They are hunters and gatherers. And while you mock them white man, they will out survive and out breed you.
And we're all outbred by cockroaches. What's your point, angry man?
So, who won?
It was fixed...I saw it in the 2nd or third round when Mayweather tied up Mani and was whispering in his ear something.....then I had a wierd suspision that this was just a money show for The Money Team guy...and it was....Mani fought.....Mayweather just ran away most of the time..and he wins for that....yeah right...you could tell when the last bell rung he knew what the call was going to be..it was already set up....remember he produced the fight....so all the rules were his to begin with....the stage was set for him to keep on going for the 50-0 that he wants......
When boxers get to this high of a level, their outlook changes from that of professional fighter to that of retail icon. It all boils down to money. It's a forgone conclusion that bouts like this are rigged. There is too much money at stake to think otherwise. Mayweather is the quintesential sports entrepeneur. Just watch his interviews - it's very clear that he is completely dedicated to building an empire. Someone like that doesn't leave fights to chance. My hunch is Pacquiao has been fighting that shoulder injury for quite some time and Mayweather approached him with a very genereous offer to take the fall. As it is right now, Mayweather will pocket around $100 mil and Pack $80 mil or so, depending on PPV turnout.
It's great for common men but not as EPIC scam that the FEDs are pulling off.

Where are all the "its not fair they make more than me" retards?
I didn't see any protesters, riots, whining niggers. Are boxing events somehow magically off limits for the brainwashed sheeple? One of the biggest moneymakers in history and not a peep from mainstream about the gross amount of money made at this event. (and that's just the money thats been publicly announced)
Fools and their money are soon parted.
Is there anything more stupid that to watch two guys beat each other?
PS The fight was fixed. And so are many soccer games, and F1 races, etc. And the sheeple still watch. THey deserve whats headed their way.
So, it's news that a developing nation doesn't hvae the best electrical grid? pff
