Michael Moore: "Disarm The Police... & Release Black Inmates Jailed For Drug Offenses"
Michael Moore took to Twitter this week to outline his list of demands following the riots in Baltimore: Disarm the police and open prisons.
As The Washington Times reports, Moore unleashed his own brand of trolling...
“Imprison u, shoot u, sever your spine, crush your larynx, send u to war, keep u poor, call u a thug, not let u vote. But u can sing for us,” the liberal film director tweeted to his 1.83 million followers.
His comments comes amid violent unrest in Baltimore since the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who died after suffering a severe spinal injury while in police custody. More than 200 people were arrested in clashes with police Monday and Tuesday and more than a dozen officers injured.
“Here’s my demand: I want every African-American currently incarcerated for drug ‘crimes’ or nonviolent offenses released from prison today,” Mr. Moorecontinued. “And the rest who r imprisoned- I don’t believe 50% of them did what they’re accused of. Lies. Greed. A modern day slave system. Poor whites 2.”
“Next demand: Disarm the police,” he wrote. “We have a 1/4 billion 2nd amendment guns in our homes 4 protection. We’ll survive til the right cops r hired.”
“Local cops now militarized. Founding Fathers said NO army policing on our soil. Why do cops have tanks? Oh, right - the Enemy: The Black Man,” Mr. Moore concluded.

With due respect to those who are asking me to comment on last night's tragic mass shooting at UCSB in Isla Vista, CA -- I no longer have anything to say about what is now part of normal American life. Everything I have to say about this, I said it 12 years ago: We are a people easily manipulated by fear which causes us to arm ourselves with a quarter BILLION guns in our homes that are often easily accessible to young people, burglars, the mentally ill and anyone who momentarily snaps. We are a nation founded in violence, grew our borders through violence, and allow men in power to use violence around the world to further our so-called American (corporate) "interests." The gun, not the eagle, is our true national symbol. While other countries have more violent pasts (Germany, Japan), more guns per capita in their homes (Canada [mostly hunting guns]), and the kids in most other countries watch the same violent movies and play the same violent video games that our kids play, no one even comes close to killing as many of its own citizens on a daily basis as we do -- and yet we don't seem to want to ask ourselves this simple question: "Why us? What is it about US?" Nearly all of our mass shootings are by angry or disturbed white males. None of them are committed by the majority gender, women. Hmmm, why is that? Even when 90% of the American public calls for stronger gun laws, Congress refuses -- and then we the people refuse to remove them from office. So the onus is on us, all of us. We won't pass the necessary laws, but more importantly we won't consider why this happens here all the time. When the NRA says, "Guns don't kill people -- people kill people," they've got it half-right. Except I would amend it to this: "Guns don't kill people -- Americans kill people." If you had you would have found out that a certain 6% of the population is responsible for well over 50% of the violent crime in the US. As far as the crime rates in Canada and European countries I guess we will see how they hold out once their enlightened populations hit 12% or more.

I have a difficult time trusting any man who believes incarceration is justified. Men who demand state protection through incarceration are absolute fools and they are the problem.
I believe in the absolute abolition of all prisons and the release of all prisoners --- no matter why they got there. I know that is never going to happen but it is my moral stance. True and fair justice does not cost a lot of money. Only a fool thinks otherwise.

What do you propose we do with those inmates who are murderous and/or otherwise inclined to do harm to others? I don't know of any society in the history of the world that didn't have some kind of prison for that small percentage of the population who are inclined to rob, rape and kill. However, there is no question that we have gone far overboard with incarceration in this country, a result of the massive "crackdown on crime" in the 90's, yet another putrid legacy of the Clinton "co-presidency."
A successful society has few prisons with few prisoners. A failed society is one that has many prisons filled with many prisoners. We in the US have more prisoners (both in percentage and in absolute numbers) than any other nation on the planet.

I can tell you, having visited Florida State Prison (no, as a part of my job...lol) there are people on this earth who really do belong in prison or dead. One really hasn't seen the dark side of humanity until you've gone inside one of those places.

Agree with all you say except privatizing police. Read into private for profit prisons -they're a scam. They would increase police just to set up more unemployed punks on minor drug charges so they could exploit them as slave labor for profit. Some traditional functions of government should remain public -roads, national defence, police and prisons and a few more. Corrupt politicians, incompetent and corrupt police chiefs, the federalization of local police forces with federal money and strings attached for control --faulty and immoral training of police officers, as well as stupid, ignorant citizens -allow and encourage such horrible police practices. They are here to serve and to protect the citizens -not to terrorize and intimidate. They should be trained accordingly. And yes I agree that people incarcerated for their own personal drug usage (or entrapped in hand to hand sales by one of the armies of undercover cops) should be freed. Drugs should be legalized and drug usage treated a s medical issue - of course, not for minors, dangerous felons or mentally impaired, with other excpetions.

I have smoked herb on and off all my life and I have 3 college degrees (in computer science and math, not sociology either). Drugs are what you make of them. Making them illegal does not stop anyone from taking them, it just gives the state an excuse to fuck with people and hold political prisoners.
The vast majority of crime is created by drug laws, not drugs. An alcoholic or a smoker is just as much of an addict as a heroin junkie, but since they can get their drugs without the insanity of the black market they are able to live normal lives. In fact many rich junkies have also lived normal (or at least relative to the music industry standard) lives without any health problems caused by the drugs. There are also millions of pain patients who are physically dependent on their medication but are able to function normally because they receive their drugs on a regular basis without any hassle. Drugs are just another health issue. Using them as an excuse to empower the state is the problem.

The rules are officially established now. Regardless of how egregious the attack, white people will NOT be allowed to actively defend themselves without an indictment for murder. Especially not in cities like Baltimore, and its getting that way in Dallas. When I was in Law school and worked on the Hill in DC, I experienced a lot of ugly racist attitudes from blacks in DC -and these were rich blacks on federal salaries- I saw totally outrageous not guilty verdicts from black juries in New Orleans acquitting black men for outrageous rapes of white women -on OJ Simpson type defenses. It bothered me greatly. However, despite being a Pat Buchanan /Ron Paul conservative political activist, I have come to be sensitive and somewhat understand black claims of racism -especially with regard to police and law enforcement where blacks are targeted on petty drug offenses, while rich white kids at exclusive prep schools have far less chance of being targeted by federally funded drug enforcement money.
I also know that the true black leaders who truly represent their people are not the black Uncle Tom's who are promoted by white elitists, but leaders like Dick Gregory and Louis Farrakhan, who realize that blacks need to depend upon themselves for their own betterment-rather than the white liberal establishment that seeks to use them in their divide and conquer strategy which pits whites against blacks. We are not surrendering -we need to ally with our fellow black Americans -more American than most of us since they were brought over in bondage and lived here long before most of us came here from European immigration in the mid to late 19th century - and fight against the real enemy which seeks to gain more power and wealth though divisions and conflict -whether it be white against black -rich vs. poor--male against female -gay vs. straight-whatever.
I also had a contract hit (and gypsy curse) put out on me by the leader of a 70 person crime ring I personally investigated, sent to the grand jury, and had the largest State organized crime indictment and prosecution --ever --under the State RICO act - (real crime, not punks smoking dope) which resulted in the ringleader being sentenced to 60 years (and others various punsihments) after a month long jury trial - something which never, ever would have occurred if not for my efforts and the team I put together -as most cop investigators couldn't investigate their way out of a paper bag. Those who try don't last very long, as serious investigative efforts often lead to the exposure of crime and corruption by district attorney staff, judges, cops, politicians -as did mine. For various reasons (my past results and personal connections with some influential honest politicians) I succeeded. Since I left 20 years ago, there hasn't been a significant, serious, substantial investigation of the real pros committing crime in Dallas. Not a one I can think of. Sheeple cops do what they are told -traffic tickets, domestic violence,etc. -And remember frank Serpico -wasn't any better in new Orleans -and Dallas also -just a different type and style of corruption. All under Republican police, judges and politicians when I was there.
I think we will see more and more violent protests in the cities and more and more Hollywood types coming out of the wood-work like cockroaches. This is an ominous sign of what is coming, for the "storm clouds" are gathering from all directions. We are allowing ourselves to be conquered by division over "petty" things, which means the ....we are headed for hell.

Disarming police in the U.S is an outstanding idea. It sets the moral example that guns are not the solution. He is correct in that enough Americans have guns that the avg police doesn't need them. You still have SWAT etc armed to the teeth for situations that do require it. Police in England don't carry guns.

Reform Police Departments! Strictly enforce New Policies Requiring Re-Training of cops that have not been culled. Face it; there are Many Police Officers that simply cannot control their emotions enough to simply Enforce the Law without Abusing their Authority! Perhaps a Psychological screening to be Required?
Strictly enforce a Policy requiring All Officers to record on a "Lapel-Cam" their entire time "on duty"? All encounters would be captured as on the "dash-cams" in Patrol cars… In training, these could be used in a manner similar to sports teams reviewing games?
Rather than Disarming Police, Strictly Enforce policies regarding their use of Firearms! A device designed to detect removal from the holster would not be difficult to design and would not interfere with it's use. Hold them accountable for even removing the gun from it's holster. The Most Strict Accountability to be reserved for the use of a sidearm! Perhaps an automatic review by an independent Panel in the case of a shot fired?
Perhaps requiring All officers to "walk a beat", interacting with the people they are tasked with protecting? This might help facilitate an enormous change in attitudes between "the people" and "the police", possibly the beginnings of a restoration of Respect for the "Authorities" rather than the Disdain which prevails today?
I am under no delusion that "Policy Changes" will solve any problems overnight, but my own attitude towards cops and the prevailing attitudes may begin to change gradually? It would primarily require changes in the laws First! There are enough problems in society that Police should not be tasked with enforcing laws designed to protect people from themselves. As long as they do not pose a threat to others or infringe on The Rights of Others, people should be allowed to do as they please, no?
