Paul Craig Roberts: "Insanity Grips The Western World"

Tyler Durden's picture

Authored by Paul Craig Roberts,

Just as Karl Marx claimed that History had chosen the proletariat, neoconservatives claim that History has chosen America. Just as the Nazis proclaimed “Deutschland uber alles,” neoconservatives proclaim “America uber alles.” In September 2013 President Obama actually stood before the United Nations and declared, “I believe America is exceptional.”

Germany’s political leaders and those in Great Britain, France, and throughout Europe, Canada, Australia, and Japan also believe that America is exceptional, which means better than they are. That’s why these countries are Washington’s vassals. They accept their inferiority to the Exceptional Country — the USA — and follow its leadership.

It is unlikely that the Chinese think that a handful of White People are exceptional in anything except their diminutive numbers. The populations of Asia, Africa, and South America dwarf those that comprise Washington’s Empire.

Neither do the Russians believe that the US is exceptional. Putin’s response to Obama’s claim of American superiority was: “God created us equal.” Putin added: “It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation.”

If all countries are exceptional, the word loses its meaning. If America is exceptional, it means others are inferior for lacking this designation. Inferiors have less rights and can be bullied into submission or bombed into oblivion.

The Exceptional Country is above all the others and, therefore, doesn’t have to be concerned about how it treats them. Obviously, Americans and their vassals think America is exceptional as the millions of people murdered, maimed, and dislocated by Washington’s wars in eight countries in the 21st century has not resulted in condemnation of Washington. Merkel, Hollande, Cameron and the puppets in Canada, Australia, and Japan still suck up, holding tight to Washington.

Instead, Russia and Iran, countries that, unlike the US, are not militarily aggressive, are portrayed in the White People’s Media as threats and are condemned.

The White Media claims, and has claimed since February 2014, that there are Russian tanks and troops in Ukraine. Putin has pointed out that if this indeed was the case, Kiev and Western Ukraine would have fallen to the Russian invasion early last year. Kiev has been unable to defeat the small breakaway republics in eastern and southern Ukraine and would stand no chance against the Russian military.

Recently a brave news organization made fun of the White Media’s claim that Russian tanks have been pouring into Ukraine for 14 months. The parody pictured Ukraine at a standstill. All traffic on all roads and residential streets is blocked by Russian tanks. All parking places, including sidewalks and people’s front and rear gardens have tanks piled upon tanks. The entire country is immobilized in gridlock.

Although a few have fun making fun of the gullible people who believe the White Media, the situation is nevertheless serious as it concerns life on planet Earth.

There is little sign that Washington and its vassals care about life on Earth. Recently, the largest political group in the European Parliament–the European People’s Party–expressed a cavalier opinion about life on Earth. We know this, because, if we can trust Euractive, an online EU news source, the majority EU party believes that declaring the EU’s readiness for nuclear war is one of the best steps to deter Russia from further aggression. The aggression to be stopped by Europe’s declaration of its readiness for armageddon is the alleged Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the “further aggression” is Putin’s alleged intention of reestablishing the Soviet Empire.

It must be disappointing to the Russian government to see that leaders of the European Union prefer to endorse nuclear war than to challenge Washington’s propaganda.

When I read that the governing party in the European Parliament thought non-existent aggression had to be stopped by a declaration of readiness for nuclear war, I realized that money could buy any and every thing, even the life of the planet. The European People’s Party was speaking on behalf of Washington’s propaganda, not on behalf of Europe. Europe’s nuclear war with Russia would end instantly with the destruction of every European capital.

The crazed vice-president of the European People’s Party, Jacek Saryusz-Wolski revealed who the real aggressor is when he declared: “Time of talk and persuasion with Russia is over. Now it’s time for a tough policy.”

Clearly, the European Parliament is a great danger to life on the planet. Is it realistic to think that Russia will allow herself to become a concubine of Washington?

The USA and most of the rest of the world is run by people who will only be satisified when everyone else has nothing or is dead. They will crawl into their bunkers and nuke the planet if that's what it takes. They'll crash currencies if that's what it takes. That's the sort of mentality the people running governments on this planet have and it's evident by their actions right down to the bunkers they've built for themselves.

The rampant exceptionalism as well as rampant individualism are concocted as ruling elites moral justifications for their crimes. That's all.

It is part of propaganda of “justified” submission. It just means that they may steal murder, enslave, rape and dominate because they are exceptionally moral and good.

Very interesting take on origins and core of modern exceptionalism as well as debunking some misconceptions about Ideas of Marx that author unfortunately fell pray to, can be found at:

I'm a little shocked he doesn't know the real definition of Deutschland uber alles.

it means simply Germany above all else. To put the country above youself in importance.   Above family, life,

The real definition is no different than the idea of "American Exceptionalism" in practice. It's one of the basic pillars of any strongly nationalistic ideology.

The ruling class is the parasitic class. You can debate the morals of the ruling class, which I will agrue they have none. I borrow 5 questiosn from Larken Rose for the statist to answer;

1) Is there any means by which any number of individuals can delegate to someone else the moral right to do something which none of the individuals have the moral right to do themselves?

2) Do those who wield political power (presidents, prime ministers, legislators, etc.) have the moral right to do things which most people do not have the moral right to do? If so, from whom and how did they acquire such a right?

3) Is there any process (e.g., constitutions, elections, legislation) by which human beings can transform an immoral act into a moral act (without changing the act itself)?

4) When law-makers and law-enforcers use coercion and force in the name of law and government, do they bear the same responsibility for their actions that anyone else would who did the same thing on his or her own?

5) When there is a conflict between an individual's own moral conscience, and the commands of a political authority, is the individual morally obligated to do what he personally views as wrong in order to "obey the law"?

If your moral standard is based on anything but that which was given by the life and law-giver, then your morality is a "relative morality" just like theirs.

Faith-based money can indeed buy anything, but that faith is dying. Even the MSM cannot spin away the evidence of a dying western economy from those of us in the West. We are one good collapse away from awareness, and the timing of that collapse is not in western hands. I try to tell people who see what is going on, not to worry, b/c the 'exceptional' people only look that way to western eyes. The western leadership is this obvious and this desperate only b/c its time is very short, and the timeline is not within their control. Without foreigners going along with the Reserve Currency pretense, the west cannot even look strong. The foreigners whom the west is threatening are the same ones who control its Reserve Currency status, which is all that enables the west. The end of their patience will not mean the end of the world, but only the end of the west.

The post-collapse soviet union is our future, not nuclear armageddon. The western leaders are nowhere near as powerful as their terrorised populations think they are. They have little global credibility; all are compromised; some are senile. Regular reading of the eastern-based news sources and blogs -- BRICS Post, China Daily, China.org, New Eastern Outlook, Russia Today, Sputnik, South China Morning Post, Vineyard of the Saker -- all show a different view. There is no fear in them, but great confidence in their various co-operative projects all over the world, a growing awareness of their power and discussion of how to use it. There is anger and sadness for the west, but not fear. The carnage in the west will be terrible, but it won't be global.

This is a good article by PCR, but flawed by the (usual) USian obsession with 'race'. It isn't a "White" media, but an Anglo-Zionist one. "White" is no more a synonym for "Anglo-Zionist" than "German" was a synonym for "Nazi". That's propaganda. Let's call them what they are: Anglo-Zionists.

I just don't buy all this fear, despite the best efforts of our western media and 'leadership' to terrorise me into expecting the worst. My information comes from other sources too, and I think this fear for the whole globe is mostly projection of fear by the west, for itself. In this, maybe, we are exceptional, just as the soviet union seemed to be as it was collapsing. We are neither as strong nor as terrible, nor as big a threat to the world, as we like to think we are. It's time to take off these western blinkers, and see the world's situation from another, more powerful perspective.

While the politicians play along, the people of Europe are not.

Greece will break away, Italians and Spaniards can not stand the EU anymore, in France, being against the EU is a recipe to get votes, so politicians will turn their coats....

So the EU is a zombie anyway...

Good read.  And an opportunity for me to repeat my crackpot theory that the subprime housing bubble was engendered by Alan Greenspan at the urging of the Pentagon. Why?  In 1973 Hubbert's theory about 'peak oil' became a reality.  'Shale oil' or no shale oil, with the growth of capitalism and the reserves of oil the US mlitary wanted in their bank, somewhere around the middle of the 21st century, 'peak oil', or consumption exceeding production, would hit.

In the late 1970s American demographers began to theorize exactly when the Black and Latino minorities would become a majority, and in the American democratic system, outvote the Whites, including the oligarchs. And cause the rich all kinds of problems.

The first event in the destruction of the status quo was the election of Ronald Reagan, who brought into government, no less a fiend than Grover "Starve the Beast" Norquist.  Thus began our soon to be $20 Trillion National Debt.  Most of that cash went to the Pentagon to buy weapons they couldn't otherwise afford.  Weapons they are swimming in today and forcing NATO members to buy as they are required to spend 2% of their GDP on their military.

In 1987 Volker was out and Greenspan took the chairmanship.  In 1992 he raised no objection to a dramatic increase in the number of subprime mortgages made by Freddie and Fannie.  The content of the MBSs started to accrue.

In 1999 Greenspan could have jawboned Congress and Clinton not to repeal Glass-Steagall, but he chose not to.

With the Fed's low interest rates, all the elements of the bubble and the eventual  crash of 2008 were in place.

By 2009 I had heard that between $65 and $100 TRILLION had been lost when all the MBS and CDO mortgages were underwater.

The United States had not just beggared their neighbor, they had beggared the WHOLE WORLD.

Of course, they beggared plenty of their citizens, but if you want to make an omelet, you have break a few eggs.

It was only 6 years ago that the Fed began printing currency the way that Pfizer grinds out Advil. America's ass was saved by the electronic creation of money.

And 8 years ago in 2007, to drive a stake in the heart of the status quo, Washington struck up its band of vassals and commenced 'The Eastward March of the Patriot Missiles."

Russia was soon to become Cuba East.  The Patriots got closer and closer until Moscow backed two Russian enclaves in Georgia to preclude Patriots that far East.

Even Negro Lips Obama admitted that there was some US involvement in Kiev before the coup.  And mirabile dictu, the FSB had photographs of John O. Brennan, Director of the CIA, Dragging his weary, pimpled ass around the Maidan a week or two before the West's Holy Revolution.  He was followed around by a 40 foot container full of freshly printed money.

Make no mistake.  Big event's have already happened.  And even bigger ones  are to follow.

Zionist State operator Nudelman gave the game away in a leaked conversation with Ambassador Pyatt - the US put $5 billion into regime change and Yatsenyuk is their man. Other leaks indicate that some protestors were paid $100 a day to attend. The snipers at the Maidan were a classic CIA flase flag - firing at both sides. The snipers, and leaders of the Maidan, were trained in Poland, confirmed by a Polish politician.

For the umpteenth time: 'American Exceptionalism' refers not to the American people per se, but rather to our form of government which is based on rights given to us by God, not by man. For, what man gives, man can take away. No wonder the current administration is hell bent on expunging God from all public discourse and relegating Him to the confines of houses of worship. Government is not God!

Yeah right the Russians are invading because ... your economy is a pile of shit and collapsing.

All governments once they cross a threshhold of being more important than THEIR OWN POPULATION become trapped in the game of having to sacrifice their own populations to keep government alive the biggest parasite in a nation and all this to distrasct from a shit economy.

OT but very important, kind of on topic actually...................In the Video below, Gunderson interviews Lovins. Lovins was not on my radar until this video, but he is amazingly cognizant on all forms of energy, including renewables and directly addresses some of the anti-renewable canards that are being tossed around. He does it in a very clear, almost bullet point type way.

WATCH THIS VIDEO! And drop a comment please.

Amory Bloch Lovins (born November 13, 1947)[1] is an American physicist, environmental scientist, writer, and Chairman/Chief Scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute.

He has worked in the field of energy policy and related areas for four decades. He was named by Time magazine one of the World's 100 most influential people in 2009.

We're discussing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
If you call that "religion", then the answer is no.

We're also discussing how Biblical prophecies relate to current events.
If you call that "religion", then the answer is still no.

As far as what has motivated, murdered and maimed- perhaps you should read up on Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao Tse Tung and other avowed atheists.

And as far as bankers go - why would you want to exclude the #1 reason for war from discussion? All wars are bankers wars.

Your avatar is a little bit misleading, truth seeker is one who believes in primacy of fact and implacable logic.

God seeker is one who seeks divine light that has nothing to do with "truth" as we understand it.

As "eternity" and "afterlife" are metaphysical concepts that defy human reason.

Its a question of blind belief systems and truth does not correspond to that state of mind.

As its well known : That God acts in mysterious ways beyond human comprehension and therefore beyond human truths which are a FABRICATION of his own COMPREHENSION.

God's truths are not Man's truth, that is if God exists. We know that Man exists; but we have no proof of the other ONE's existence in Our terms.

To console your soul of man, I will concede that God or Mother Nature created water, source of life, whereas Man created wine.

You choose : wine or water! One to survive the other to LIVE ! Each has its own sense of truth in it.

I am a Canadian, want out of NATO and want those liars and murderers in DC tried for war crimes.  The CIA should be disbanded, its members brought to trial.

I read of riots in Baltimore and other places, cops stealing cash.  The unwillingness by authorities to be transparent, droning of innocents.

Many Americans do think themselves exceptional, but have trouble locating Canada on a map.  You have no freedom but you think you do.  You are ruled by media and $.

You used to have a huge manufacturing base which in so longer as you prefer to pay serfs less than a living wage anytime you get the opportunity.  You have a drug problem you make billions on and force other countries to do your bidding as you fund a war time military when there is no war except of your making.

You have a ruling elite that gets away with murder and theft if not more.  Force countries like Iraq to take on mercenaries and give these mercenaries "immunity" from rape and murder charges.

Keep your country and your vaunted exceptionalism, but leave the rest of the world out of it.

I personally met more than one American when Canada is mentioned that look down their noses at us, but these same people haven't worked in decades and are alcoholics or prescription drug abusers who really have not accomplished much in their lives.

I mean, it's not like your country is boycotting the U.S., right?

I agree that these people care little about the planet.  Scientist Michael Murphy just announced that there is now legislation to legalize global engineering, i.e. food production and life on earth.

Climate change treaties and legislation will, if passed, lead to global governance, the disintegration of nations (including the sovereignty of Native American Nations), transfer potentially trillions of dollars of wealth into the hands of a few at the expense of many and allow an unelected body (IPCC) to intervene and micro manage our lives. This legislation/treaty, which is a violation of The U.S. Constitution, is expected to go into effect in December of 2015. If passed, it will most likely lead to the legalization of geoengineering which in turn will prevent lawsuits, establish global governance start a public propaganda campaigns to influence people's support, create clear and open financing to such programs and therefore make it exponentially more difficult to stop. Also, because geoengineering is being sold as the quickest and most cost effective step in addressing the issue of climate change, it is almost certain that climate treaties will include the legalization of the very damaging programs. It is essential that we address the legislative attempts to legalize these damaging programs.

This is a radio show Michael Murphy did where he explained the importance of addressing the legislative and political implications of the planned climate treaties. He discussed the legislative and political implications starting around the 36 minute mark.

I am a 70 year old American watching his country die. They can use all the terms they want to like exceptional but America is still dying.  It really boils down to a much simpler equation that is universal in mans history. Here is the equation:

Human Spirit * Individual Freedom * Individual Self Determination - Government  - Society = Progress

Human spirit goes from 0 to 100. Individual Freedom from 0 to 1. Individual Self Determination from 0 to 1. Government and society each from 0 to 50. Progress greater than 50 is a growing country with a sound government and fostering society. Progress less than 50 is a contracting country with an unsound government and thwarted society. America is about 39 and falling.

This equation has been the same since the dawn of time. When man created government and society to foster his growth but failed to manage them he creates his own downfall. When mans institutions become corrupt, progress stops and the void is filled with wars and blight. Then after the wars the human spirit rises from the ashes gains freedom asserts individual self determination while distrusting government and society and progress resumes.

Example.  If you have 100 human spirit, 0.7 individual freedom, 0.7 Individual self determination, 0 government and 0 society, then things are bad?

Better to just generically say, "maximize indiviual liberty and minimize government."

Americans don't really comprehend voting - voting in America is just a feel good exercise. Any voting result the System doesn't approve of is simply voided by a Judge. The much vaunted US Constitution does not provide for Initiative or Referendum or Recall. So when people in foreign lands vote in referendums and that vote is honored is is incomprehensible to Americans. Americans have been conditioned to a top down Soviet type system of governance.

In reply to blussmann: Here is your idiot statement with no argument to back it up: “dictioniares simply and inaccurately  define Fascism as a corporate-government system, but it really is much more.”

Fascism is much, much more alright, like; totalitarian dictatorship by central government. Ha. Ha. Ha.

The Third World Fourth Reich Anglozionazi Empire of Chao$ is exceptional in that the bananas republikkk gone-to-seed thugocracy in Washing town, led by the alpha sect of chosen racer neo con shamans is shrivelling and withering away as its Ponzi crapper rigged market "economy" ruptures like a stagnant sewer reeking of nothing more than the insanity and delusions of the liars and cheats in the zero 1 % who think that they are somehow beyond the laws of flesh and blood. BS will always smell like BS, even if in the psychopathic madhouse of USSA, it has long since been acclaimed as the parfum du jour.

Onward with our Jaded Helmets and the culling of the lumpen that Pentacon Kill Industries has been training for on the fetid rim of empire these many a lost war.

I think either PCR doesn't quite grasp what Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal et al are planning, or he's intentionally not divulging their intentions. Germany's proclamation that the EU needed an EU Army was a cover story, the EU wants an Army to separate and defend itself from NATO, not Russia. And it's more than obvious that Europe realizes Europe was ass fucked raw by American Exceptionalism, and cabal bankers / government tools. Europe will not tolerate being subservient to American Exceptionalism any longer, and the signs of that are ever present. AIIB. Enough said.

Wait for the real events to transpire in the currency wars, this tactical weapons use is just a failed paradigm grasping at straws. Europe has said they will fight to a Nuclear War, not against Russia, but against the USA. That's the reason western coalition is failing at so many plots / schemes.

The good guys are going to win this war, and save humanity, and we can put American Exceptionalism in the toilet where it belongs. YAY World. Go You.

American Exceptionalism?

http://thefreethoughtproject.com/police-kill-citizens-70-times-rate-firs...

Killings of Americans by American police? The tally for 2014? 1,100 people killed by those sworn to protect. That is an average of three people a day.

From 2010 through 2014, there were four fatal police shootings in England, which has a population of about 52 million. By contrast, Albuquerque, N.M., with a population 1 percent the size of England’s, had 26 fatal police shootings in that same time period.

China, whose population is 4 and 1/2 times the size of the United States, recorded 12 killings by law enforcement officers in 2014.

From 2013-2014, German police killed absolutely no one. In the entire history of Iceland police, they have only killed 1 person ever. America imprisons almost twenty five percent of all people imprisoned in the world, although containing only about 5% of the worlds population, an extremely disproportionate share of people imprisoned globally. The U.S. houses 2.3 million inmates, while China, a country with four times the population of the U.S., is a distant second with 1.6 million prisoners.

Does anyone see something really wrong in this country?

I would like to add that the US private prison system is the fifth largest employer in the USA.

Yes, we can! compete with the Chinese slave labor force with pay at about 17 cents an hour for a USA prison slave!

I was just trying to validate your info a little.

"now, there are 100 (Private Prisons), with 62,000 inmates. It is expected that by the coming decade, the number will hit 360,000, according to reports."

" From less than 300,000 inmates in 1972, the jail population grew to 2 million by the year 2000. In 1990 it was one million. "

-

"Private prisons are the biggest business in the prison industry complex. About 18 corporations guard 10,000 prisoners in 27 states. The two largest are Correctional Corporation of America (CCA) and Wackenhut, which together control 75%. Private prisons receive a guaranteed amount of money for each prisoner, independent of what it costs to maintain each one. According to Russell Boraas, a private prison administrator in Virginia, “the secret to low operating costs is having a minimal number of guards for the maximum number of prisoners.” The CCA has an ultra-modern prison in Lawrenceville, Virginia, where five guards on dayshift and two at night watch over 750 prisoners."

"Who is investing? At least 37 states have legalized the contracting of prison labor by private corporations that mount their operations inside state prisons. The list of such companies contains the cream of U.S. corporate society: IBM, Boeing, Motorola, Microsoft, AT&T, Wireless, Texas Instrument, Dell, Compaq, Honeywell, Hewlett-Packard, Nortel, Lucent Technologies, 3Com, Intel, Northern Telecom, TWA, Nordstrom’s, Revlon, Macy’s, Pierre Cardin, Target Stores, and many more."

"According to the Left Business Observer, the federal prison industry produces 100% of all military helmets, ammunition belts, bullet-proof vests, ID tags, shirts, pants, tents, bags, and canteens. Along with war supplies, prison workers supply 98% of the entire market for equipment assembly services; 93% of paints and paintbrushes; 92% of stove assembly; 46% of body armor; 36% of home appliances; 30% of headphones/microphones/speakers; and 21% of office furniture. Airplane parts, medical supplies, and much more: prisoners are even raising seeing-eye dogs for blind people."

One of the few things fdr did right was to not sign that legislation that Kennedy ultimately did. Allowing government workers to unionize dismantled our country almost as much as Wilson's decisions.

I don't hate the thirteenth amendment of the constitution.

Legalized slavery has certain benefits for certain people. I hate that there is no mechanism to buy a slave. Only the government gets to own them. That just isn't right!

What is an "American". I'm trapped here but don't consider myself "American". To me, it is a society dominated by an Oligarchy replacing the original racial stock with less intelligent and more violent and ungovernmable stock - thus more violence and more prisons. I guess that is "exceptional".

If any other country attacks the US head on, they will be surprised at how effective air, space, and sea borne laser and rail gun weapon systems actually are.

USA invented WMD's, but currently finds little use for them.
