Schaeuble certainly thinks it's about their personal lives. He's even come straight out and said so to Varoufakis: 'Why do you even care about debt sustainability? You will be minister for 4-6 years, during this time you don't have to pay back any loans so... why do you care?'
Schaeuble is the responsible one, remember. Varoufakis is the one to be laughed at for actually caring about how the future unfolds, even if he's not around to see it. Repugnant stuff.
Are there really losses if the source is printing? What is the offsetting liability to the loans the ECB provides? As far as I know most of it is not from Germany, the banks, etc.., just printing.
Eventually inflation, but in a purely bookeeping sense what is the loss after the default?

my take is that EU will not be allowed to risk the system and all derivatives.

Thank goodness we have the best and brightest working on this to find a solution. If it's taking great minds like this six years to find a solution to the over burdensome growth stifling debt, can you imagine how long it would take small minded people like us to solve the problem. Hell we would probably have the Greeks do something stoopid like default. Can you imagine the impact that would have on our poor finaciers? Who would be left to trickle on us?

The issue is who will take the blame for accepting the losses.
Greece can remain in the EU and reintroduce the Drachma. It seems there are a few options on HOW to default. Maybe pay out derivative bets in Drachmas?

All the cosmetic changes and easing of rhetoric from Germany only confirm that preparation to bail-in of pensions, salaries, savings and other Greek assets belonging to ordinary Greeks is on the way in form of technical, undeclared default or some other sort of smoke screen.
