In April There Were 26 Waiters And Bartenders For Every Manufacturing Job Added
Several years ago (and then subsequently renewed almost every year) Barack Obama unviled a manufacturing initative during one of his countless teleprompted appearances before the nation, in which he promised to do everything in his power to boost the US manufacturing sector. It should therefore come as no surprise that in the month of April America's attempts to rekindle a manufacturing renaissance have fizzled once again, with a tiny 1,000 manufacturing jobs added, following zero manufacturing jobs added the month before.
Putting this in perspective, for every manufacturing job added in April there were 26 new waiters and bartenders confirming the "robustness" of America's jobs recovery. The chart below shows the progression of how America is slowly but surely transforming from a manufacturing society to one of waiters and bartenders.
Perhaps a better way to show the transformation is the following: since the start of the second great recession in December 2007, there have been 1.4 million manufacturing jobs lost. They have been almost completely "offset" by the 1.3 million waiter and bartender jobs gained. In short: serving food is the new making stuff.
Finally, here is the full breakdown of which occupations made up the 224K jobs added in April. One can see why without the "benefits" of Obamacare and the student bubble, the US jobs "recovery" story may have some trouble.

TGIF!
We're all alcoholics now.
And obese from eating GMO laden foods from restaurants.
HOPE & CHANGE !!
All those low paying, part-time, dead-end jobs are leading to the shining city on the hill. So line up and sign up for your third world lifestyle now and beat the rush.....
Service industry jobs should be considered apprenticeships for their futures as palace slaves for the .01%
Depends on how you define "service Industry". Technically, working for GS and JPM are "service industry" jobs, but try getting one.....
another view of manufacturing in America...
http://econimica.blogspot.com/2015/05/manufacturing-recovery-or-manufactured.html
Somebody has got to feed and serve alcohol to the poor smuck who is paying all the taxes.
HOW do GMO foods make you fat?
LOL.....this is almost as good as man made global warming, man mad climate change, man made climate disruption.....
This guy may have figured out the reason for the obesity epidemic. WHEN you eat has never been considered too important but Dr. Herring has found it does. Since February 13 I have lost 13 pounds (about one pound per week) by doing one thing different....I confine my calorie consumption to just 5 hours per day. Nothing being sold here, no product to buy. It has worked for me and when I'm eating I eat ANYTHING.

It is that the point of GMO food is to be able to regularly drench it in the fields with Roundup which when consumed messes your gut bacteria along with other parts of your body. The GMO food is isolation may be fine in theory.
Hey...someone's gotta serve the unemployed the booze.
The ratio of people to cake is too big.
SNAP cards work in bars?
Just think of the wonderful service this means for all of us when we dine out!
So bad even Yahoo! is sending the news.
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/disconnect-us-stock-market-just-141141243.html
And strip clubs and casino's.....
Obama can finally claim "mission accomplished", lol. Still some "work" to be done to remove manufacturing completely so that only politicians, bankers, lawyers, auditors, army and police are left.
Hookers, Realtors, bartenders, waitresses w college degrees, OH MY
Print MOAR, EVERYTHING IS AWUSSSSSUM, suckers.
anybody wanna buy any REEEEEL Estate? STAWKS. giggle. Print till you turn blu....
Psssst, you got 1 more year or so to steal all you can, as much as you can... erase those hard drives...
Hey, it's all consumption spending, so according to the Keynesians, it is economic activity/growth. Produce nothing, spend everything, and we will all be rich!
They produce shit and puke
That's gotta be worth something
How are entrepreneurs supposed to create new manufacturing jobs here in the US when, thanks to horrors like NAFTA and GATT, the Communist Chinese are able to import finished goods for less than the raw materials would cost the US vendor?
Thank you ever so much, Bill and Hillary Clinton for ramming NAFTA and GATT through Congress, while public opposition to both exceeded 90%. Nothing like teaming up with the Globalists and the multi-national corporations to crush working people here in the US, by shipping most of our manufacturing base to a country with no human rights laws, utterly ineffective labor laws and zero environmental protections. Way to go affirming democracy and all that other nonsense; boy, it sure is good we get real choices every election, isn't it?
When TTP and TTIP is signed NAFTA and GATT will seem like good stuff in comparison...
TPTB are not going to be satisfied until USSA average wages equal World average wages. Welcome to the New Feudal World Order.
Where's Ross when you need him
I did my part to get him elected. Then the admiral stepped in
Is there a chart on how many former waitresses / bartenders have converted to $10 crack whores?
"Is there a chart on how many former waitresses / bartenders have converted to $10 crack whores?"
No idea, but I do know that there's at least one homeless person with a cardboard sign at every single major intersection in my city. Thanks Hillary for NAFTA and GATT! Gosh, we all appreciate what you and Bill did to the economy so very, very much.
Able bodied young people are out at the intersections with signs because people given them money for doing nothing. Don't thank Hillary or Bill. Thank the people who are encouraging these people to do nothing but harass people forced to stop at the intersection.
And there's such an abundance of well-paying jobs with good benefits out there! Jobs everywhere you look, as plentiful as the stars in a clear night sky, all for the taking by any able-bodied person. And if you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you...
Waiters and bartenders are "tipped" employees
This circumvents need to pay them minimum wage
I bet restuarants and other businesses now call every employee "tipped"
It's why there's a tip jar at every register
Probably all that's required to comply
Let's not even discuss "interns" at this point
I guess they must include CONgresscritters as waiters, because they all work on "tips".
Pieces of flair need to be included in that top chart.
Chotchkie's still requires a minimum 37 pieces of flair to express yourself?
I think they revised their policy, after Initech burned down.
I was sitting at a bar in Des Moines a few weeks back , arguing about the economy with some liberal fuck heads, one guy actually said " Well, you can't base an economy just on producing things".... I about shit my pants.
As they say, "It's not about the making, it's about the taking."
While I see a number of failing restaurants, I also see lines waiting to get into many of the popular restaurants -- where a couple or a family of four can easily drop $50 to $100 each visit. Then I wonder where is that money is coming from?
Fast forward to a stadium full of football fans, where the 'cheap seats' cost $125?
Or as you drive along and see $45,000 pickup trucks?
About the only thing I can think of besides the gap between the 10% and the other 90% would be that Boomers are getting an inheritance from their parents and are blowing through it.
Credit is king
"BLO - JOB" definition of another Govvy "part time, jobless, welfare, Snap job, (off da books) job-less category. I christen thee suckers, Millennials Blo- Job.
as in, go home and get a BLO - JOB!
What about Hookers?
Probably around ~20 for every manufacturing job as well.
I miss that guy telling us his sister-husband-brothers-cousin make $70 an hour at home doing.....
This would be his topic.
for every manufacturing job added in April there were 26 new waiters and bartenders
Wow, that company really cares about its manufacturing workers by adding 26 cafeteria positions for every manufacuring position. They must be running 3 full shifts and weekends too.
That's how you support a manufacturing operation people. Rumors abound that they serve tea on the production floor 3 times a day.
I wonder what they manufacture?
Manufacturing? They do that in China.
Does anyone actually believe that these purported waiter and bartender jobs actually exist?
Here in Massachusetts where things are *relatively* good compared to some parts of the country I don't see a net increase in restaurants in the past several years. Would they have us believe that restaurants hire much more staff than they ever did before?
They're using the job category as a dumping ground for their fantasies of job creation. "Oh . . just say that they're all bartenders and waiters!"
Massachusetts is, population wise, an average size state. So, when they say, month after month after month that there were 50,000 (or more!) new waiter and bartender jobs created then month after month after month we should have 1,000 new waiter and bartender jobs here in Massachusetts.
Nope. Not even close. Complete fiction.
It's real.
They're part time jobs.
Some only work two days a week, on weekdays- if they keep showing up, they get the coveted weekend slots.
That's where the money is- weekend tips.
Yes, but that's not a new phenomenon, part time waiter and waitress jobs. They weren't all 40 hours before obama/pelosicare.
THE NEW SLAVES TO THE 0.1% CROWD !!
Back to middle ages...
And of those manufacturing jobs, only 1 in 3 were actually people making the stuff. The rest were process control pushers and efficiency experts telling the guys making the stuff how they should be doing it faster.
Excepetional.
Hey LUCY!! When the average Hedge Fund Manager makes over $200,000 per hour you need 28 waiters and bartenders. For a manufacturing job you need ONE 7-11 clerk to hand over the six-pack.
Waiters / Waitresses and bartenders would indicate a robust economy, yes?
I mean where is the cash coming from to create this supposed demand? Well, looking around I see no difference in patronage of restaurants and bars than 6 months or a year ago.
Since we can rule out the robust economy the only conclusion left is employers are reducing hours which would require more employees to cover.
The bullshit pours out of DC like the shit river in Olongapo.
It's actually cheaper to import food into the USA now.
Of course you'll need a port to do that. Baltimore is as far for north as that goes.
"Fuglies" my local bar is always hiring...Data confirmed!
Heh, heh, heh... I'll have the Steak Dinner!
Hey Bartender, Pour me a Double Shot of that Corazon there, Por Favor! Ah, this es La Vida!
I think I was still in high school when I first heard that the US was turning from a manufacturing to a serivce economy and wondering who was going to make the money to pay for all these services.
And of course we see stocks bought for resale value rather than dividends paid out for profits from actually producing and selling anything. And now money has no set intrinsic value. The answer is, and probably was always intended to be, that no one makes the money, it is merely loaned out to everyone.
I suppose highly-valued but profitless companies are the wave of the future, the next great leap in civilization's evolutionary world of finance.
The Lap Dancer sub-index is showing positive growth trends!
Come on people these are all made up numbers. The birth/death rate is for businesses. Make believe numbers are make believe numbers. Generally 1 in 2 restaurants fail within the first 2-3 years. ALL NUMBERS ARE MAKE BELIEVE. If people really think that all these jobs are real they have no idea what they are talking about. If all the job growth is from people 55 and over, next time you're in a restaurant see how many servers or bartenders are over the age of 55. Its all make believe, made up, bullshit, that doesn't jive with reality. Pretty much like everything else that are corporate government puts out.
When I was fourteen, I ran away from home and joined the circus. I got a job circumcising elephants. The pay was lousy but the tips were huge.
Ba-da-da-dum-dum-*crash*
Bunch of kids drop by the local bar every weekend , tank up and shoot pool, paly the music loud and hard,..
A good bunch, most either in college, dropped out of college, finished a degree, or finishing one, and every single one has done a stint at a macdo or some other bar job and duly been added to the statistics.
One more job created by the fucking shit stabbing faggot Kenyan fucking monkey in the Whitehouse.
But not a single one of them does that shit anymore. they are not classed as unemployed, they quit, and wouldn't go back unless it was to raze the place to the ground in an inferno.
Every single one of them makes his booze and fags cash by what I can only call black market something or other.
I haven't a clue what they do, they do deals, a bit of this a bit of that always something involving cash is going on and it isn't drugs. They never buy clothes are sneakers or gizmos from stores. They never seem short of something and know someone who knows someone.
It isn't contraband, they have their own kinda economy going now but it isn't easy to spot.
They don't talk about it, and no one will ask.
I have seen the same thing going on before, in third world country's where people live by their wits, where they cant afford to set up a corporation or fuck about with all the fucking bollox and theft from corrupt little hitlerite bureaucrats.
some get rich, some make a good living completely under the radar and some don't make it at all.
It works in every third world economy I ever went to and these guys here are smart. They don't need a lot, enough for booze and broads and fags just about covers it, and they are all wired and connected
Want to know where all the unemployed are. The millions of ex waiters and bartenders. Those missing from the so called participation rate. They are busy starting a new economy, and they all seemingly get started by going through the bar tender and waiter school of real life training and experience .
It will be good experience when the Government makes them work on the soup lines....
Washing each others clothes and making each others burgers.
Now that's INDUSTRY!
Bartenders manufacture drinks - It's a highly skilled profession
Just wait, in 20 years the health industry will see the same drop in jobs as manufacturing has over the last 30. When all those boomers die, they'll be an awful lot of doctors and nurses who'll be looking for jobs.
That's if things haven't gone so wrong that there's actually a country as we know it left. Too bad it can't be the lawyers trying to find jobs.
Main street in my little town is saturated with new restaurants. There are, maybe nine or ten eating establishments now in a three block area.
But this is the new economy. Everyone is now trying to earn a living by selling the guy next to him a pita sandwich. The middle class no longer has access to better paying, more secure jobs, so everyone is now a "restauranteur". People never did this before because everyone with a decent, middle class level of education knew damn well that opening a restaurant was perhaps THE most risky business venture that existed with a 90% probability of failure.
But now, these same people have few options that make more sense. So, they mortgage their homes and "invest" their life savings in business ventures that are certain to fail....and hope for the best.
And craft brewers. Put 7-12% alcohol in a beer, and sure as shit everyone is going to tell you that your beer is awesome. Better get a mortgage and go all in in your new business venture, you brew-master.
I've been tracking NW Indiana for quite sometime, using it a a benchmark for the whole economy, and they have been flashing a lot of stress in the last 12 months or so.
Strikes, closings, and layoffs in the key oil refining and steel businesses in the area. Restaurants and brewpubs opening up like "cash for gold" stores used to.
Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission.
"Slip slidin' away."

Who got the plum job washing uncle warrens smelly old wrinkled ball-sack?
All I see in these charts is our manufacturing of meals and drinks is booming so we are still a "manufacturing society" if that kind of thing is important to you.
thus the need for massive immigration.
Ten or even twenty year ago there was no lack of restaurants in the US. The increase of staff in this sector by 1.3 million since 2007 is not credible. It looks like a desperate attempt to fudge the figures to a point where the job losses do not become obvious. I agree with Fred Hayek's comment below. People that work 1 or 2 days don't register and are therefore not necessarily counted in the employment statistics. The US statistics are nothing but lies.
